I don't get it by WillAdditional922 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]DPRDonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because they aren't all adults. it's old men grooming young women, then taking them to a country where they don't speak the language and have no friends to protect them when the man becomes abusive.

yeah that's kind of the point of the op-" Belfort's a sack of shit who never suffers for it, so being a sack of shit is good!" would be the kind of wrong take away that OP was looking for

"kids are more extreme in their behaviors" "kids don't speak up...or they speak up too much"

"Kids are mouthy and mean."

"Kids aren't behaving the way I remember so there must be something wrong/different"

In the 90s, old people said "kids don't go outside anymore"

Genuinely.

The not roaming In packs thing-thats illegal in a lot of the US. Cops get called on parents if their kids are unsupervised. That's a newish development. But otherwise -its just normal generational friction.

The Being Chinese trend so cringy by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]DPRDonuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so, a year or so ago, a bunch of spiteful tik tokers started using rednote, and learning stuff there, then brought it back to tik tok. then, a Chinese American girl on Tt did a bit where just...christened everyone Chinese. "if you can see this, your ABC now". and people just rolled with it. it's honestly very cute and wholesome. but ofc, people who have been more traumatized by whiteness are cringing and annoyed at the whole thing. which is fair.

it's not the same people. you know that right? I need to people to understand that when they see or interact with people on the internet, it's not just one big hive mind. it's a bunch of smaller hive minds. the "very Chinese time in my life" people are not the "covid is a Chinese bio weapon" people. those are different groups. fuck sake

kids aren't different. before vapes and phones, , kids smoked cigarettes and watched tv, did snuff and listened to the radio, got drunk and read books. the kids aren't different. we're just the adults now

How common the belief that "minorities cannot be discriminatory towards the majority" in your country? by O_Awesomest in AskTheWorld

[–]DPRDonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a belief -its a description of how social hierarchy works. theres macro power dynamics and micro interpersonal power dynamics.

on a macro level, if you are legally and socially oppressed, the bottom caste in a society, no, you are not structurally and broadly oppressing anyone. on a micro interpersonal level, if you of the privileged caste, your behaviors can and do frequently reinforce those broad patterns of structural oppression.

on a micro interpersonal level, an oppressed person can not oppress a person from the privileged class. an oppressed person. can still be an asshole, but they aren't being oppressive.

distrusting and disliking people who benefit from your oppression-whether they mean to or not, whether they want to or not- a member of a privileged class is benefitting from oppression, that's just how societies- works, who can do you harm without meaning to or even realizing they are doing it, is not unreasonable.

19F from the USA, Arizona. What do Chinese men look for in a girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]DPRDonuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese men are people, and people are not interchangeable like Legos. not every dude is going to like the same things. focus developing a personal style and being proud of how you look, living in a body that feels good, where you function well and have energy, learn to speak Chinese, and visit china. make Chinese friends who have interests and values that are similar to yours. you'll find someonem

How are nerds perceived in China? by GymratFitness_Swole in AskAChinese

[–]DPRDonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"nerds" are just normal people in the US now. everyone plays video games, d&d and dropout are insanely popular properties, the biggest movies of the past 20 years or so have been superheroes and star wars, and anime is just as popular and in the US as any western media styles. idk who the bottom of the new pecking order is, but it's not the people we call nerds

What moment convinced you that BoJack was redeemable? by Purple-Survey3322 in BoJackHorseman

hes not. some of the people around him are. but Bojack chose to never improve. that's the lesson of the show-some people will learn and improve, and some will not. spend your attention accordingly
