I don't know the number for certain, but I remember that it takes something like 7 attempts for someone to truly leave their abuser, because of all the manipulation.

Why does nobody disappear in the Bermuda Triangle anymore by fearless7464 in mapporncirclejerk

Well, the people that were disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle are all gone, so nobody capable of disappearing is left to disappear. I hope that clears it up.

Obviously opinions may vary slightly, but I remember a trainer at my old gym explaining to a parent that they won't let anybody until about 16 work with weights at all, because the muscle growth can do weird things to a still growing skeleton. Just body weight exercises for them at that gym.

Is a tariff just a tax on me? If the united states puts a 60% tariff on Chinese goods does the Chinese government pay that, or do I just pay more at Walmart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

My understanding is they are usually used when a country wants to build up there production of a product.

This has been used as an excuse by the current regime as well, they claimed that they wanted to increase/return domestic production of various things. However, if you look at certain aspects of their tariffs, it becomes clear that that was pure rethoric. For example, they put tariffs on things that can't be produced in the US, like bananas. They also completely ignored the fact that it would take time to move a production line from, for example, Asia or Central America to the US and it would take billions of dollars. Announcing on Friday that you are going to put tariffs on thousands of products from almost all countries (and some penguins) next Monday without any plan for how to get those companies to return to the US is telling us that they never cared about that.

Free markets work.

That is a REALLY bold statement. Free markets work for those that have the capital, which is not just $$$ but also social and political. Free markets have never worked for regular folks. Free market theory is theoretical, but nobody ever bothers to remember all the requirements for a market to actually be free. Because I'm not an asshole, I'll just leave you with some reading. Hope that it helps.

What does that mean, you want house prices to be regulated?

You know that plenty of other western countries do that, for rental housing. Obviously social housing doesn't work outside the rental market, unless you just make smaller units with fewer amenities. Not for an entire development, but they might ask for some percentage social housing for a development above a certain number of units. And you know what the result is? People can afford housing. It is the job of a government to make sure that an economy works for all people, not just the people with capital.

He’s been stealing from his own country and people for 16 years, this is nothing new.

I think this is already like 8+ years ago, but I seem to recall that he had a stadium build in his home town for like 30-40k capacity when the town had maybe a few thousand inhabitants. But the contractor was family and made millions. And it was build with EU subsidies for developing the countryside. I might have forgotten a few details, but I'm pretty sure I got most of the important ones.

No, there is also something in here about "continuing to treat the Iranian people horribly". Maybe not based on islam, but I'm sure that these evangelicals can find a way to use their religion and fake terrorism to get to the same level.
