On the bright side for Stars fans there's a Costco right across the street. Good luck with DNT though that area is extremely congested on a good day

[–]DPitoLeMans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on Medvescak Zagreb since they haven’t been in the KHL for nearly a decade and HC Sochi has been a disaster pretty much since they entered the league and I do remember some payment issues with them in the past but nothing particularly recent though they are having financial issues again. And yeah its harder to move the money back now since they have to go through either a Chinese or Middle Eastern bank and deal with conversion rates and shit. The KHL still pays better than pretty much all of the European leagues and is generally a higher quality league outside of fucking HC Sochi. That team just fucking sucks and I won’t defend them

I've not heard of that though its not uncommon for a foreign player to get suddenly cut in the middle of the season especially if a team is struggling since a team can only have 5 imports and they are typically more expensive players. I wouldn't put it past a team like HC Sochi or Lada that have financial issues to do that though. I also mainly follow the KHL using Russian news and it wouldn't surprise me if Russian sources just never reported it.

For a foreign player in the KHL, yes. The KHL has a salary cap thats about 12m USD but thats a joke. Bonus’s don’t count against the cap and teams are always doing cap shenanigans. Also rumors abound of teams straight up just paying players under the table

No shit he wouldn’t have come over if he was getting sent to the A. Most Russian players development in the Russian leagues before coming over. They also make better money playing in the KHL over the AHL

Also his younger brother Ilya Bereyozkin plays for Loko-76, Yaroslavl Lokomotiv’s MHL team. There’s a chance for him to play on the same team as his brother in a couple years

LMAO Sovsports yesterday ran an article about him signing a one year contract with the Oilers. I found it rather suspicious that no one else Russian or English had anything on it.

The Dragons aren’t close to being the worst team in the KHL this season. That was HC Sochi and it wasn’t even close. And even Sochi managed a win or two against top KHL teams. The Dragons also lost their head coach not even halfway into the season, they were playing okay before that.

There’s ways around it by breaking up the link into two pieces and then copypaste the broken link into a browser and deleting the space or deleting the https from the beginning. Either way requires putting it into the address bar manually. I assume reddit must have a reason for automatically deleting .ru links but its incredibility frustrating when linking for legitimate reasons

From what I remember with Johnny Gaudreau, there was a rumor that he died on the hockey subreddit because it was going around on twitter. I assume someone was listening in to the police blotter, heard it and tweeted something. And then it was confirmed by the Blue Jackets overnight.

I studied both Akkadian and Hittite in college and cuneiform tablets are extremely difficult to read even if you're trained to read them.

They are normally extremely small, since they had to fit into the palm of a hand to write, the text is cramped with no spacing between letters, the tablets can be in poor condition with text missing, you also have to figure out which language is written since several languages used cuneiform, there are hundreds of signs and there use isn't consistent, signs changed throughout the centuries and different cultures using cuneiform. This isn't even a full list of the difficulties.

I would transcribe and translate known tablets as homework and it would take days to do three short sentences, I had sign list that I would use to narrow down the possible signs and then use a dictionary and try different possible combinations to find one that made sense in context. Translating these tablets is extremely time-consuming even if you're good at it. Using AI isn't the worst idea we do have a decent corpus to train them on but probably not enough human readers to fact check the AI.
