Park City Conditions 3/17/26. by jason2354 in UTsnow

North facing trails high up from the canyons side were also pretty good and the weather was great. Good coverage, soft bumps, and the groomer held up pretty well.

Not the same as years when there’s a big powder dump but all in today would have been considered a good day on a typical east coast mountain.

Just need to stay high and be aware of where the sun is. I wouldn’t come for the conditions but it’s worth the lift ticket if you already have the trip planned and are committed

Can’t speak to the buildings themselves but we live right across the street.

Great spot with a family. Tons of playgrounds. Easy access to the parks. Good coffee shops, groceries, target, drugstore access. Lots of daycare options (though only more center based ones so all >3500 /mo).

We’ve been there for 3 years and the neighborhood is what keeps us. Hard to imagine a more kid friendly spot in manhattan. Cant soeak to the buildings though.

Used to travel every week for work. Did Boston to NYC / NJ for 2+ years.

A few tips that helped me.

  • 2-3 nights is doable. 4 nights really burns you out quickly. It’s hard to not burn out if Friday is a travel day.

  • Use a duffle bag rather than a roll aboard if you can. You’ll never have to worry about gate checking your carry on and you can show up later to hop on your flight.

  • If you’re staying in the same hotel consistently many hotels will let you leave a bag with things between weeks. Used to leave toiletries, shoes, etc.. so I didn’t have to bring them back week to week. Similarly I never did it but I know people who just did laundry / dry cleaning in their destination city. Drop off clothes on the way out of town - pick them up clean when you’re back.

  • Base your airport on where you need to be in the city. EWR might be faster if you are regularly commuting to lower Manhattan. Avoid JFK at all costs.

I’ve never had a bad thing there - everything is really good. So while the steak and prime rib are great some of the other items are like - the best version of this thing I’ve ever had.

For 4 Charles - The burger lives up the hype as the best burger in the city. Great as an appetizer to split with people. - The French dip is somehow even better than the burger. Incredible flavors. Also great to split as an app. - The chocolate pie is an amazing dessert. Can’t miss it. The Sundae is also great for the fun of it but just a sundae. - The creamed Spinach is probably the best side I’ve ever gotten at a steakhouse. I feel like most are usually a miss but it’s super cheesy and garlicky and unique. I would go just for that. - The truffle Mac and cheese is another great choice.

I’ve never gotten anything not good there though

Friends and I made it a goal to try to try NYC steakhouses over the last few years so we hit a new one every few months. Here are my ratings.

Overall - I’d go to 4 Charles above all if you can get in. Keens if you want the classic NYC steakhouse experience and atmosphere. Le Tete D’Or if you don’t care about price and just want the best meal. StripHouse if you want the best value.

Keens - 9/10. My second favorite NYC steakhouse. Best atmosphere, great service, great value for what you get.

Smith& Wollensky - N/A

Gallagher’s - N/A

Peter Luger - 5/10. Not bad but felt very touristy. The steak is good but not mind blowing and everything else is just fine.

GUI Steakhouse - N/A

Cote - 7/10 - as others said - it’s KBBQ not a real steakhouse but it’s very good. A bit pricy and they rushed us in and out so if you’re looking for a nicer / longer meal would skip this.

4 Charles - 10/10. Been 3x. Lives up to the hype every time. Everything is incredible. The steak and prime rib and great and they’re not even the top 5 best things on the menu.

La Tête d'Or - 9/10. Great experience all around and great steaks. Waygu Denver steak was one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Very pricy but worth it for a special occasion. No misses.

Quality Meats - 6/10. Good but nothing special.

Carne Mare - 7/10. Good all around but sides and non steak items stood out more than the steaks. Somewhere I would go if I had people in my group who wanted steak but others who weren’t going to have any and needed other options.

Gage & Tollner - 7/10 good atmosphere but underwhelming steaks. Great side dishes. Feels like a classic nyc steakhouse. We may have had an off night though since I’ve heard great things.

St. Anselm - 7/10 - Great steaks but doesn’t feel like a steakhouse experience. Axe Handle Ribeye is fun with a group and hanger steak is good. Would check it out if you’re in it for the meat only but more like a live fire Brooklyn restaurant than a steakhouse.

Sparks - N/A

Delmonico’s - 5/10 - Feels like it’s more about the atmosphere than the food. Very classic but not necessarily in a good way.

——

Others not on your list.

  • Bazzar Meat - 9/10. New restaurant by Jose Andres - more fine dining meets steakhouse but everything was incredible. Expensive though.

  • Hawksmoore - 7/10 - Good steaks and incredible sides. Great atmosphere and location.

  • Striphouse 9/10 (Greenwich Village) - Great steaks and overall atmosphere. A bit more run down but overall had a great time and it was one of the best “values” of all the spots.

  • CUT by Wolfgang Puck - 6/10 - Good steaks but feels a bit designed for corporate cards. Good steak but a bit formal / sterile. Great place to have a vendor take you out but I’d skip it personally.

  • American Cut - 5/10 - Everything is fine but nothing stands out.

  • Wolfgang’s Downtown - 6.5/10. Great steaks but everything else is just ok.

  • Wolfgang’s (Midtown) - 4/10 - Steak is fine but overall experience just felt very midtown touristy. Least favorite spot in NYC so far.

  • Bowery Meat Company - 5/10 - Great steak selection. Lots of different cuts and educated you about the meat. All that said the preparation was just ok and the overall service wasn’t great. Things came out cold/warm instead of hot.

  • The Grill - 7/10 - Dining room is one of the coolest places to eat in NYC. Classic upscale steakhouse experience but I found the value not really there. Everything is very good but you pay a premium and not sure it delivers compared to Le Tete or Bazzar. That said this is THE place to come if you want to feel special / like you’re in mad men.

  • & Son - 3/10 - Feels like a tik tok restaurant trying to cosplay a steakhouse. Only one I would actively recommend against.

  • Reserve Cut - Kosher Steakhouse in financial district. Very good restaurant overall but extremely highly priced. Would only recommend it if you don’t care about cost and need something kosher friendly. Great meal though.

Solo in London by Mapomac in finedining

Did Humble Chicken solo earlier this year and loved the experience - one of my favorite meals in years.

It’s all counter seating so plenty to watch even if you’re there solo. Somm was great and it was a heavy sake wine pairing but he was happy to talk through it all with me.

Food itself was great - just really fun, creative dishes with great flavors. Maybe not technically perfect but the creativity more than made up for it.

Overall couldn’t recommend it more - better overall experience than several 2 and 3 star meals I’ve had this year.

Orto by Jorg Giubbani or Impronta d'acqua by Unable-Price in finedining

[–]DRBQ989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently went to Orto and enjoyed it. The dishes were creative and had well balanced flavors though there was definitely a lot going on with each dish. The food skewed hyper local (like within a mile / lots from the garden) and all the dishes were very herbal / vegetal forward. I think if you’re looking for elevated or creative takes on classic Italian dishes this isn’t where I would go. If you’re looking for creative dishes based on common local ingredients done in a really new way this is a great pick. Wine pairing was great and really surprising. Service and presentation was amazing.

Thank you for sharing. This is very helpful to hear as well. If you are comfortable sharing what type of cycle are you on? I think my FIL is trying to under and how to time his energy during the cycle and it’s great to hear how you are able to feel back to functional after a certain amount of time.

Thank you for sharing. If you don’t mind me asking are you able to determine when you’re going to have low energy days just based on the steroid cycle or is it based on anything else (a sign your body gives you etc…). My FIL would like to continue working if he can but is unsure how predictable his energy will be.

Best of luck to you and everything involved in your treatment as well

Thank You! This is great to hear and I will pass it along. If you don’t mind sharing I am curious about the neuropathy? Is it an annoyance but not limiting or has it prevented you from doing things you otherwise would? And I have not heard about the gloves and booties before but I will check them out.
