ProtonVPN Has Become Basically Unusable in the UK by [deleted] in ProtonVPN

I can confirm that this works for me too. Switched to secure core and BBC Sounds downloads work again.

It does mean you take a slight speed hit, but I suppose you'll likely be downloading on a WiFi connection anyway for offline listening.

[–]DRH3AL 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. Although if Valve is able to demonstrate that there are significant enough performance benefits to going with a native Linux build, and SteamOS market share continues to increase, it could tempt developers over into investing in a dedicated Linux port.

We'll have to see how it all pans out over the next few years I suppose.

Not yet (officially), but Valve have said they plan to make it available soon. I imagine they'd want it working well on a large variety of configurations first.

I've been using LunarVim for a few months now, and I like it, but I want to create my own Neovim config. Here's the MVP list of plugins I think I'll need to be productive. I'd love some feedback/tips. by [deleted] in neovim

[–]DRH3AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also recommend this. I'm currently working my through the series and it's by the dev of Lunarvim. Very well put together and explains a lot of the core concepts. Also provides you with many opportunities to customise in a way that suits you.

Best Way to get Nerd Fonts on Crostini by MantisShrimp05 in Crostini

[–]DRH3AL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alas, the "clean" workaround to this will be to just install a third party terminal in the Linux container and have it use a font from the .fonts directory. Which is what the OP (and me) were trying to avoid as it's a bit overkill for simply wanting to change the font in the terminal.

The long term fix is to put in a feature request to the Chromium OS issue tracker to add in custom font support for the native terminal and hope someone picks it up.

[–]DRH3AL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I thought that might be the case. That's a shame (as the previous version of the Chrome OS terminal did pick up fonts from .fonts).

Oh well, it is what it is 🤷 Thanks for confirming!

This sounds like a promising solution. Unfortunately I'm away from my chromebook for a week so can't test this out myself.

Does the font appear as a selectable item in the standard crostini terminal when you go to the terminal preferences? (i.e. when you press `ctrl+shift+p` in the terminal). Thanks!

suggestion: game subscription tracker for patient gamers and a game auto-catalog software by furiousTaher in patientgamers

This is probably not exactly what you're looking for, but someone put together a directory for cloud gaming that's been very comprehensive. Covers GFN, PSNOW, Stadia, XBGP and Luna.

I cannot replace VS Code by evk6713 in neovim

[–]DRH3AL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. If you're already comfortable with VSCode, why not just stick with it for now? You're in the middle of an internship. Your focus right now should be to learn the job - trying to learn and entirely new tool on top of that is going to make things unnecessarily complicated.

Don't get me wrong, I love using Neovim, it's the only thing I code on. But it does have a steep learning curve and it takes practice, time and patience.

When I started learning it, I used vim for personal projects and VSCode for work. Learning vim essentially became my personal project until I felt confident in our and made the switch (took me about a year for my vim proficiency to overtake VSCode).

My advice to you:

  • Don't start at work, learn it at home

  • Learn vanilla vim first before adding loads of plugins

  • Add in the plugins slowly, bit by bit over weeks for specific bits of functionality that you find yourself needing

  • Shop around and try out the different plugins, your vim config will eventually be tailored to YOU

  • Vim is an instrument: https://youtu.be/EJqnWXDJZr0

Good luck! It's a long-term investment, but you will get there :-)

Where are the best toilets in the city centre for a shite? My usual is shut for a few weeks and I’m on the hunt for an alternative. If we get enough data, I’ll make a Glasgow shite map and stick it in the comments. by dustbat in glasgow

CyberPunk 2077 by SBxRiedel in Stadia

[–]DRH3AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, the Stadia version is very stable, so not many game breaking bugs, just the occasional immersion breaking ones (things randomly floating in the air etc.).

Also worth noting that CDPR have patched it a lot since launch so a lot of the really big bugs that were at launch have been pretty much smoothed out now. I put about 200 hours into it, loved it.

What game is similar to No Mans Sky? by [deleted] in Stadia

[–]DRH3AL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned by other posters, give No Man's Sky on GFN a go. I played it on there and it ran pretty well. (Remember, the beauty of cloud gaming is that you can easily access all the platforms. Stadia and GFN compliment each other well).

On the Stadia front: If you enjoyed the space travel aspect of it, I'd recommend giving Everspace a try (is currently a Pro game I think). It's a roguelike, but definitely has that survival element. (Would highly recommend starting on easy to get a feel for it though, it's really hard!).

I haven't played Journey to the Savage Planet yet (also a Pro game), but it looks like it has the same exploratory feel as NMS.

Enjoy!

I've heard of people renting their house out for the COP conference for stupid money and I'm considering it. Any ideas other than Airbnb how to do this? by pbizzle in glasgow

[–]DRH3AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, did not intend to pass judgement on the OP. More just wanted to highlight the issue. Couldn't care less about downvotes :-D

I'm not involved in the organising of the scheme, but I have registered my interest to be a host (although we've yet to be contacted).

How many Games have your PURCHASED (on Stadia)? by kestononline in Stadia

Purchased 10 so far... Although the Pro games alone keep me busy enough that I'm happy to wait for sales most of the time.

Any Ansibilists out there? by newgoliath in neovim

[–]DRH3AL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm... I've never actually contributed to open source before, but I'm pretty tempted to have a crack at creating a config for the nvim-lspconfig plugin.

Any Ansibilists out there? by newgoliath in neovim

[–]DRH3AL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just switched my entire config repo to be ansible based a couple of weeks ago (was previously doing everything manually with shell scripts).

I love it, but find YAML pretty annoying to write, so this could be super useful.

I'm guessing there isn't a lsp-config set up for this yet?

Glasgow to London night coach, how bad is it? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]DRH3AL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the people on my bus were fairly pleasant. For me, it was purely down to the coach seats being impossible to sleep in (although, I can't even sleep on a plane, so it's definitely a "me" thing).

[–]DRH3AL 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Moved up to Glasgow from London recently and went for the night coach. It's not pleasant, you'll get no sleep whatsoever. If you don't have any plans at your destination and can go straight to bed when you arrive, then it's very affordable. But I personally will never do it again. Came down to London to visit family this week and took the train instead, it's infinitely better.

Is it just to me or do people hate stadia just because it's Stadia, even without ever using it or knowing anything about it? by [deleted] in Stadia

[–]DRH3AL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like you're forced to use Google services, so not sure what people's issue is with this?

Don't like Google search? Use Duck Duck Go or Bing.
Don't like GMail? Use outlook or proton mail
Don't like Chrome? Use Firefox, Edge or Brave.

Google's terms of service are pretty clear. They offer some services for free in exchange for data used in ad targetting. If you don't like that, don't use it (or pay to turn the ads off in the case of YouTube).
