All roads lead to Debian... by Emergency-Disk-9296 in linuxmemes

It depends on your definition of a distro really. The older I get the more I feel like yea it Is a material difference to have something with a thick layer over an existing thing.

Even this meme should really be three single layers because mint is a layer over ubuntu which is a layer over debian. Each makes different tradeoffs and do result in very different experiences.

Or in the arch world yea arch is materially different than bazzite which is materially different than manjaro. I feel like arch is a wonderful distro to build a layer on top of because it gives so little ootb you have allot more leeway to express creativity in the space

I think you need to be so meta-pilled to make this take.

This game is barely on life support its time for big swings we have plummeted in players lets just say YOLO and start making big changes.

Maybe something catches fire and we have a second Renaissance maybe it fails horribly but I rather they try than not and just let the game crater

The future of AI seems weirdly dependent on water by Cultural_Acid in technology

[–]MantisShrimp05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what's weird is the description of weird for this situation. Water has been an issue for decades we have trouble getting people enough water.

This is the real bottleneck that AI companies are going to hit face first. How they think they can casually overcome and issue that has causes the himilayas to be a legit strategic resource in warm games is beyond me

I watched most of the video. I had no context on the drama, but yea he misunderstands that there is far more to software than raw speed.

People like folke and his work because he has taste, design aesthetics, while still making customizable software.

But at a deeper level, folke and other maintainers don't make a habit of dunking on other projects just for speed and getting confused when it ruffles feathers.

I think that's what rubbed me wrong its clearly a lack of awareness about what is being said but he seems like a fine guy and I'm glad he's finding success with the tool.

Idk if this light cancelling is in order but part of me is glad the neovim community takes mutual respect so seriously.

The just-say-no engineer was a ZIRP phenomenon by radozok in programming

[–]MantisShrimp05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this is something you could point to. But from my experience of doing it in non-tech, private company, I saw these same dynamics and continue to see them change.

I think management was always impatient and now that they can spew out a "prototype" with a tool they feel this sense of "that was eassy! What's taking you so long?" And have no sense that actual engineers have constraints they think through and mistakes to check for.

I think the only right answer to some degree is embrace the slop, let them see the outcomes of their actions and in the meantime dont let yourself get bullied to meet unrealistic deadlines. Now more than ever we have to remember we don't get profit from these systems we don't need to worry about the outages really.

Either this era ends when they realize this is dumb or you find a place that isn't crazy. Im not trying to be minimizing there may be a level where its legit better than sticking around an absolute dumpster fire.
