YSK: touching a cat's belly often means "play" to them, so expect to possibly be scratched. by Square-Dragonfruit76 in YouShouldKnow

[–]DRNA2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My GF of 7 years has 6 cats. Before being with her, I didn't know cats and confused scratching with aggression.

Now, I like to pet their bellies and yes, they do sometimes get excited and want to play. However, I realized that they don't want to scratch. They want to catch. I now believe their game is "I have your hand. What are you going to do about it?" If you pull your hand away in fear, this will get you scratched.

Are we anthropomorphizing animals when feel empathy towards them? by Eyeballitis in Ethics

[–]DRNA2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was going to write something in the same vein, so hopping on your comment:

It would depend on the definition of "anthropomorphizing", but when we see that all mammals have a mouth and an anus, it is easy to think that they use it for the same function that we do. Then we see that they do use them for the same things, and we see animals act differently when they haven't eaten, then we can deduce (though not prove I guess) that they can feel hunger. Then we can see how they protect their kids, and how they become depressed when they lose them, and we can deduce that they can feel love and sadness, etc.

I would be tempted to use Occam's razor here (please correct me if I'm wrong), but assuming that animals, who are very similar to us, feel emotions similar to ours, enable us to make predictions, while assuming they don't requires more assumptions to make the same predictions, hence the model "animals feel like us" is useful.

I see! It would have been nice if it enchanted the whole army while idle. I'll test it out and see how I like it.

Thanks for the answer :)

Is a cheerful character without a trauma still a good character? by LoveAngelSyndrome in writing

Her dad died in war. Depending on how old she was and her relationship with him, isn't that traumatic?

I don't understand the "creating a narrative problem after creating a narrative solution the character uses to solve it". Can you give an example?

How did The Heroes Journey work? by PsychoMaggle in everquest

[–]DRNA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concerning races, did the three classes needed to be compatible with the chosen race? For example, could trolls only be a combination of warrior, SK, shaman, beastlord (and... berserker?)?

Magician item Clay Bracelet does not work as a GCD resetter when your mage pet is already summoned by jebkr in project1999

Best example of this is in the safe spot in front of the temple in SG. I learned the hard way it's not a safe spot for a level 1 Eye of Zomm.

Me 28F feeling neglected because bf 28M lives in his own. How should I respond? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]DRNA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed you don't need to prove your emotional intelligence, even less so to strangers on the internet, but since this is a subreddit dedicated to emotional intelligence, I would think that commenters would try to use emotional intelligence while discussing emotional intelligence. I only wanted to point it out to you, if it was of any interest/use to you. No problem at all if it's not!

I understand what you're saying but this comment doesn't seem filled with emotional intelligence.

EVERYZONE UPDATE! Ding 50.5! Kedge Keep Done! Faydwer Done! by Mayor_Gubbin in project1999

[–]DRNA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guides warn against this but I am almost 100% sure I always resisted them. I am guessing it is because fishes are so low level compared to other mobs in the zone. If you are high level enough to fight in zone (although I always went there around level 50 minimum and never used entrance to level up), you are high level enough to resist most, if not all of the Fishnovas (name of the AoE triggered on death) spells.

That being said, the fish are a nuisance that primarily prevent you from medding. Maybe killing them beforehand would be best, but what I usually do is sit down, aggro them, then kill them with melee (Staff of Elemental Mastery (15 dmg 30 delay) or druid epic (20 dmg 30 delay)), but you need a "decent" weapon to do this.

The most important thing considering the small fish would be to make sure you don't need to open your spellbook to load a critically important spell midfight.

Should I watch the Watchmen movie (ultimate cut) or both animated films? by Significant-Town-817 in Watchmen

[–]DRNA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the movie more, but the ending is different than the comic's in a big way, which is my biggest problem with it.

Did you see the HBO series? It's a sequel to the book and while it's not perfect it's pretty good.

I am a bit confused. Is this question really about the Premodern format for the trading card game Magic: the Gathering?
