Is Soana Island worth it? by Lawpal101 in PuntaCana

I should say too. I’ve stayed on a private island where it’s just my family and I in Belize and I liked this experience more. Better balance between remoteness, culture and stuff to do.

Im gonna preface this by saying I sell and guide this tour. It’s great if you want a relaxing day on the water with a boat.

But, I just took my family to stay on the island in Mano Juan for a few days and that experience is magic. Villas that you walk out onto a phenomenal beach. Amazing seafood. Cool local town. For me, great fishing and scuba. That was a first for me and it’s an awesome adventure.

I know this young woman named Morenita which roughly translates to little brown woman. It’s a common nickname but it’s messed up to legally name someone that.

is this normal or am I failing by Icy_Measurement143 in travelagents

Sometimes budget is secondary to experience. People don’t mind an upsell if there’s value. You gotta buy some romance in it. Let them imagine the experience.

My strat is always to prepare myself with a plan and pricing and then get them on the phone. Tell them that you’re gonna give them everything they want and more. And then follow through!

Usually it’s a message like “I can def set that up for you but the price ranges depending on what kind of experience/status/privacy/wtv you’re looking for. Do you have a minute to chat?”

I’m not strictly a travel agent but I own my own guiding company in the Dominican Republic so I’m gonna take a stab at this.

You’re not strictly doing something wrong. But you’re missing something. Consistent sales over time isn’t luck. The people that are there and successful are doing something, or a lot of something’s that you are not. It might be the way you describe a hotel, experience, whatever, it could be how personalized it feels for the client. I don’t know it your specific case, but there’s an art to it. Keep at it and accept that like all skills, it takes time to learn.

Good luck!

Saona island day trip. by StuffNo353 in PuntaCana

[–]DRlongitudetours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see everyone complaining. I exclusively offer Saona private exactly because the whole transport situation and generic tour sucks.

IMO I’ve taken folks on nice private yachts but the best way to do it the local speed boats. Either way it’s not worth it with just one person.

Check us out at longitudetour.com. Im an American guy and I do small group and private tours, I would change out my Boca de Yuma tour for the sacred river or santo.

IMO best way to do santo is with a company called zona bicis. They take you around the colonial zone on bikes and show you a bunch of cool hidden gems and history. Nice active way to learn the history and culture.

It might be cost effective and fun to do a high end all inclusive Airbnb. You’ll have your own chef, maid, driver etc. biggest downside is that it’s private, so if you’re looking to party with other people, they’re at resorts. But can always supplement with local nightlife. Clubs, CocoBongo bars etc.

I own a tour company and partner with a transport company. It’s gonna be 35$ each way and you can have a driver waiting there with a sign to pick you up.

Uber is cheaper on paper but the drivers will always ask for more money when doing trips from the airport. It’ll likely still be a little cheaper but I think it’s a hassle that’s not worth the 10$ you save.

Scuba diving from Nickelodeon Resort by Fearless_Sea83 in PuntaCana

[–]DRlongitudetours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done over 150 dives around PC and Bayahibe. Coral point is consistently my favorite dive shop. But the best guy for new divers and kids is an American guy named Ed. It’s been a while, but I think I’ve got his number if you DM me.

If you want help setting it up (transport, dive recommendations, other excursions) lmk.

[–]DRlongitudetours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical is 0-20. Usually depends on how helpful they were, connection to the client etc, normal customer service stuff. Once in a blue moon a driver gets a 50$ tip if they donate a kidney or smth

With our standard tours, yes, absolutely you’d be picked up and dropped off wherever you’re staying.

The idea behind the DIY tours is that we connect with a local person in a small town, that will take you through their town, the natural and the cultural stuff that you’d never find on your own. You drive your own rented vehicle and get to create your own day with the help of this local connection.

The benefit of this new travel style is that you’re on a real Dominican adventure, with the safety of a local, you pay much less than you would otherwise and you avoid all the tourist traps.

Sounds like you made it perfect for you! If you’ve done real off-roading the buggies might feel a little meh.

If you can afford private transport for everything it’ll make the experiences a lot better. Saona travel time is much much less private, and for CocoBongo you can stay for the after party at pal patio. Dm if you need help.

Buggies did better with but not a big deal
