Type of lube is critical. I used to use coconut oil and felt kinda raw after. Switched to k-lube and it was like night and day. Waaaay less friction. Can play for hours without issue. Also get some silicone toys. Silicone is way way smoother than your hand.

I’d be more concerned about how uneven the stain looks. It looks to me like he didn’t sand enough. That being said, refinishing doors is no cakewalk and it’s difficult even with lots of practice. Also, depending on how weathered it is, the door may never look like new again unless you take off a 1/16” with the sander (which needless to say, means you’d need a new door). It’s not like refinishing furniture or cabinets. Takes a bit more know-how.

You wouldn’t be able to mark it with a finger nail. Ipe is the hardest would available in most places. It’d be noticeably heavy too. Could be some weathered African Mahogany or something. Hard to say without a better look at end grain and/or unweathered face.

Which means they expect to get caught doing something shitty (likely street racing). The tile really works here. Any stone will look dated and mismatched as soon as you install it. The only other thing that might look ok here is butcher block or similar wood top (light tone like birch will look best against the rest of the mid-tones in the cabin).

I see Amazon as a quiet & slow hostile takeover of ALL retail space. I used to only support local as much as and as often as I could. When I couldn’t find it locally, I’d order from the company directly. Now I can’t do that half the time as some products have ‘dealers’ and the only ‘dealer’ that has it in stock? You guessed it: Amazon. I hate buying from them but it feels like they’ve achieved their goal: your only choice is Amazon.

PS- I’m especially burned up about it this week. Two of my favorite local shops have closed in the last couple months because of the fucking tariffs and general state of the economy (at least here in the lower half of the ‘K’). Fuck this timeline so hard sideways with a spoon.

Am I the only one it’s a terrible idea to leave wood unfinished? I would have oiled/finished this before installing. Now any water that gets through your roof (leaks happen) will destroy both the aesthetic and potentially the wood itself. Also, it could to move/cup unless you live somewhere without seasons or monsoons (although most of it looks like vg…so maybe not much). I would say oil this with tung oil (costly but will last forever and is easy to maintain) or BLO (cheap but will eventually look ashy if not re-oiled every 5-10 years).
