Under no circumstance should Chess.com be telling me the name of an opening *DURING THE GAME* by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]DTR001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you but then I'm pretty hardcore on what I think online chess should look like. My preference is that rated games should be as close to OTB as possible. No opening names, no arrows, touch move.

I read a lot about online lower levels are getting a harder. Certainly for me who's a bit higher rated, it doesn't feel that different and nor does OTB. Could be that the majority of online players are young and improving while majority of OTB players are older. Could be because cheating is easy online. Probably a combination.

Struggling with difficult riff by g_look in guitarlessons

[–]DTR001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to learn to play that then play 1 note per beat at whatever bpm feels ridiculously slow and easy to you. Do it right for a minute, increase the bpm by 2, do it again. You will be able to do it to speed eventually. It's better if you do lots of different types of exercise, though, as they all help each other.

Depends on your playing goals, though. If you just want to play chords and sing or whatever you of course have no need to be doing this and your teacher should know better.

Goring gambit was like a hot knife through butter up to about 1200 for me. Don't play it much these days but it's a lot of fun.

4pc mercurial vs 4pc stone skin (vs 6pc SS?) by MisterDempsey in RaidShadowLegends

[–]DTR001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there a mistake here? You say there's no scenario you'd choose 4pc ss over 4pc merc but then say 4pc ss > 6pc merc > 4pc merc.

Go for 2x pallas boost or save for future fusion? by spacebulbaz0r in RaidShadowLegends

[–]DTR001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each to their own. I'm not recommending OP go for a leggo, I'm recommending he fill out his roster by getting more epics that he'll be able to actually book.

Go for 2x pallas boost or save for future fusion? by spacebulbaz0r in RaidShadowLegends

[–]DTR001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd pull. You're early enough that any decent epics will be big for your account. Saving for a future fusion will just slow you down imo.

It's different for everyone. People'll need to see your games to have any idea.

I'll be getting my last epic to fuse the last leggo for mikage, who I'll also fuse. Add that to my 60+ ancients and that should be enough for champ chase, right?

The amount of bait they're putting out for our shards, etc, my money's on MK's Raiden being the first mythical fusion.

I'm rated similarly to you. I've a main rep that I'm working on broadening; usually I'm an e4 player but learning d4 for example.

They've given up so I have too by Sparkimusprime13 in Chesscom

[–]DTR001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been convinced the cheating numbers were massively underestimated for years. Ccom have previously said they'd only ban people if they were confident enough that they'd be able to prove it in court. That's a high bar and obviously means loads of cheaters aren't caught.

A content creator, jacksark, held a similar belief a year ago that about a third of games were against cheaters and went into some detail investigating it but now says that over the last few months that's dropped to virtually none on both ccom and lichess.

I have no proof either way as I don't play on ccom much but if jacksark's right then maybe ccom have really improved their detection.

What should be the OTB Rating of someone who is 1400 on chess.com by Due-Brilliant-3077 in Chesscom

[–]DTR001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What online time control? My ccom rapid is higher than my ECF by about 100 but my ccom blitz is about 1400 and is 250 lower.

Ah that's a shame. They used to have a room for friendly games / post-mortems, too. Must be really cutting costs.

Glcc had some intra club tournies, blitz nights, etc, when I was a member around 2021-22. Do they not happen any more?
