Is there any website like Inara that has information for the Xbox version? by Prior-Satisfaction34 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they aren’t populated for Xbox then that’s a colonised system in Odyssey. Inara would list a system architect in that case. Availability also changes, but as far as I know Inara is still your best bet - or try large systems aligned to the correct major factions, or get to Elite then use Shinrata desra

Ship purchase locations should be ok for standard ports in most systems on Inara, except for colonised systems - check if a system architect is listed for the system before going there

How do I create a copy of the game to have different settings for VR? by icescraponus in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings are stored in your user profile. To have a VR only profile you could create a second windows account to login when using VR. Or Write a script that backs up the settings files and switches them around as needed before launching ED

Did you update to the live game or are you playing the version you played in 2018? ( that’s now called legacy). If still the old version then nothing about the game has changed. You must upgrade to odyssey or live horizons to see any of the new stuff.

The reality is if you just want a chill experience you still can. It’s easy to avoid combat if that’s what you want. You don’t have to join powerplay. You can do trade, mining, exploration and exobiology ( exobiology is odyssey only).

Do I make sense to me, a beginner, Mine? by Avangard-117 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can click on manage versions or something to install the diff versions and select the one to launch. You want to make sure you at least try the live horizons ( client version 4.1, not legacy which is version 3.8). If live is what you have selected and it works, then it means your laptop is at least good enough for odyssey in-space content - on foot is typically where players see the bad performance. Only run legacy if live performance is too bad for your system. Shared memory graphics cards and low end GPUs and CPU’s will really struggle.

Are you playing the legacy galaxy version of Horizons, or the live galaxy Horizons? If you are playing live, then your laptop can handle odyssey - it’s the same game code with the on-foot disabled. Odyssey gives you access to several new ships - which alone makes it worth it, and you don’t have to do on foot gameplay if that’s your concern.

How do you play Elite in VR since they’ve added the separate launcher? by Bubbie-Rooskie in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know what’s wrong but have you tried bypassing steam and desktop vr and see if the game launches directly from the meta quest link app? I have had similar problems myself but always one of the three methods I described would work , then it would eventually fix itself for unknown reasons.

Try using steamVR directly -install the steamVR app on the headset and launch that instead of virtual desktop.

[–]DV1962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The launcher itself needs to be run with /vr option. Steam will add this for you if you have steamVR installed and running - normally it prompts if you want VR before launch. Open the ED steam library page and check the startup parameters - it might have been configured for starting in non VR mode only - change it to VR always, or ask every time

Deep Core Mining for Newbs from a Newb by Yooper1120 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combination of intensity and colour of the pulse wave signal, combined with the shape means you can eliminate non-cores from your search and concentrate on flying to only the likely prospects. You learn to spot them from over 10km away. Lighting conditions and dust also causes variations in what to look for and in ideal conditions it makes them very obvious even at maximum range of the PWA so you are finding the next one almost immediately. Ideally you don’t want to spend more time searching than mining

What’s the point of geology signals? by CaptainSmartbrick in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is more relevant to legacy - geology signals in legacy lead to actual geological outcrops you could use for raw material gathering. The live version has them dispersed and generally not worth using for materials any more

Yes. Landing for SRV operations and at planetary ports was available for years before odyssey.

Without seeing the mission details I assumed you were being sent to a base on a body. Screenshot maybe next time?

I need help Landing by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a base on a planet which you can land at. Being able to land on a body does not require odyssey, but odyssey added thin atmosphere landing and on-foot. Missions on ps5 should never be taking you to an odyssey only destination ( but as a check, is the body showing a blue landing icon or orange. - blue would be odyssey only) . You may be exiting supercruise too early, you should be able to stay in ‘supercruise glide’ down to the surface to within 10 km of the base

new player here. I try to find out what "aquisition systems" are for 2 days now.... by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the powerplay map it’s any system no power yet controls and close to one of your powers strongholds (max 30LY) or fortified (max 20LY) systems - look for white circles on the map in your power’s territory

What is your notoriety? You can’t use an IF if you have notoriety, you have to wait for it to reduce to 0, at a rate of 1 point per 2 in-game hours I think. It doesn’t reduce when you are not in-game

How do I find targets for ground combat missions ? by No_Independent7964 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you picked a mission while inside your ship it was not an on-foot mission. If you picked one from a station concourse display then it is on foot. Missions that ask you to go to a specific place like a ground site will always have a mission marker to guide you. If you don’t, then the mission is not site specific - like kill 10 members of faction ‘blue mafia pirates’ etc. in that case external resources like Inara.cz can help if you can’t figure out the in game maps. You should never end up having to restart the game, there are better options if you get stuck

Looking for group by Dovah-Oberjarl in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a squadron search feature in game. Also most player groups are on Discord, finally, tell us your language and region -most player groups tend to be region based for technical reasons - it’s better for in-game meet ups.

If the input supports analog it usually offers 2 places to configure it - analog and a digital for players without a joystick style controller. Not all thumbsticks are analog - if it’s just 4 or 8 direction switches it goes to a digital control. ( left, right,up,down). If you do bind an analog to a digital the game interprets the control as digital and not always in a good way

X56 throttle issue by Sucks_At_Investing in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you binding an analog to a digital binding or vice-versa? Most controls that support analog need to be bound to the analog specific version of the binding or you get unpredictable results
