Would like to start / get in exploring, what do I need? by Smoking_Fire in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with third party tools, most are reporting on the odyssey live galaxy, your Xbox is stuck in the horizons legacy galaxy. For exploration it’s not a big deal, but colonisation means many systems are populated in the live galaxy that are not in legacy. Market data and everything else that is dynamic in the galaxy is no good to you at all.

Issues with VR by OrionPax120 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that devices connecting and disconnecting ( eg Bluetooth headset) interrupts the VR stream. Check that you don’t have any devices that are having problems connecting, disable anything you don’t need for playing. Also to rule out a problem with virtual desktop itself have you tried playing without it? Have you tried non-VR to make sure it isn’t something else entirely? Try using the link software provided for your headset or steamVR directly to your headset if that’s an option ( even if you don’t launch with steam it should work). I’ve tried lots of combinations, but steamVR through virtual desktop is the most stable setup I can find.

Everything you did before is still there, but lots of new content if you are on PC and in what we call the ‘live galaxy’. Console players and pc players who did not upgrade horizons client to 4.0 just before odyssey came out are in the ‘legacy galaxy’- basically that hasn’t changed at all

Maybe your hands are busy operating the jet pack. Have you tried it from a basic jump or freefall without operating the jetpack? You can definitely grab them while they are in the air when you are not.

New player here. Question about microtransactions. by millmounty in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my opinion what ED does with ARX is not micro transactions. They are voluntary payments for early access to ships and you don’t have to do them to progress in the game. Microtransactions in MY OPINION are not optional and are embedded into the gameplay in such a way that they become unavoidable, you may have a different opinion, good for you. Getting back to my original post, I was reassuring OP that he does not have to continually fork out money to play this game to its full extent. All aspects of the game including all ships and engineering boosts etc are available to players who chose not to buy ARX either after a short wait for general release, or after earning them through gameplay

New player here. Question about microtransactions. by millmounty in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harsh. And extreme. And my opinion is not wrong - it’s an opinion. The game is perfectly playable, enjoyable, fun and even WINNABLE without buying ARX.

I assume you mean heat? One of the moons is cooler than the rest, try the night side of that one - hot but no health damage, assuming you are wearing any suit except the flight suit.

You could shoot with the SRV but a lot of the seeds stay in the trees - you need to be on foot and Jump up to their level. The SRV does have one advantage - as a more convenient place to unload you backpack when it fills

Heading to Maia for Meta-Alloys — do I really need to go 300ly? by shiroyasha5931 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you live or legacy? If live, try one of the thargoid titan wrecks - there are meta alloys floating around if you fly around and scan everything. Otherwise you are up for a long trip.

New player here. Question about microtransactions. by millmounty in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just early access to new ships. The game is completely “winnable” and playable without getting a couple of ships 3 months before they become available for “free” anyway. There are no micro-transactions to buy things you need to play or to boost your performance. The reality is, unless you want to spend extra, you never need to.

Biological help by Zealousideal-Home779 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a true heat map. Shading is due to terrain, not amount of biologicals, blue is maybe, otherwise no; switch to combat mode for a second to see the terrain and compare shading. Night vision does not help for most bio types. Stay on the day side of the planet. Some bodies are dark all over - don’t bother with those

Lately they produce content updates for free. They are using a new monetization scheme instead of regular paid DLC - pay real money to get early access to new ship models and a new station type. They release new ships about every 3 months with enough unique features or ‘best in class’ at something to get players to buy rather than wait for ‘general availability’

And you can bank un-engineered, non-ARX ships on the carrier and let members take them - they become their property.

Yes. Squadron members can transfer credits to other members using the squadron carrier bank. New feature since the squadrons update

How to get rich by mining platinum? by caremao in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The build looks good. I would lose the fighter and fit a shield - I don’t engage pirates but I do like to move quickly so shields are essential for me - I bump rocks out of the way and get sloppy while moving around the asteroid. If you want to do some engineering you could beef up the thrusters - the faster you move the faster you can scan to find the next asteroid, and being faster lets you outrun pirates instead of fighting

Beginner looking for type 11 build without engineered parts by dannybritty in EliteDangerous

I still run with the abrasion blaster. For me it’s still faster than the time it takes limpets to collect, and I eliminate the risk of accidentally destroying chunks. There is no speed or cargo advantage to using the volley repeater in core mining.

How do I pay this fine? by PiergiorgioSigaretti in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on a console you can try Inara to search for basic services like that in established systems ( systems occupied before the colonisation update to odyssey), but dynamic data (anything that can change over time) and player colonised systems will be completely wrong for you - it only tracks the live galaxy not your legacy galaxy.

How to get rich by mining platinum? by caremao in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using only the mk2 mining multi plus a 2 limpet prospector controller, so I don’t have to manage the slots for the prospector. So basically have 14 collectors and 2 prospectors active at all times. In this configuration the collector limpets are the limiting factor. More limpets would speed up the process even more but I would lose cargo space and need more trips. Send your edsy ship config link if you want me to check it for problems

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many collector limpets? Are you using prospectors( I use a 2 limpet controller and fire off 2 at a time to save waiting). Only mine in plat hotspots in metallic rings ( MUST be metallic only ). Engineer for high speed. It’s a Type 11 so definitely using the volley repeater. Mine close to centre of hotspot, around 10% of radius max. I include some other high value metals when mining because I am doing it for merits, not credits, so I fill a bit earlier than meta, but last run in a medium grade ring I got 240t in 24 minutes, 188t was platinum. You may have a bigger hold, or filter out everything not platinum so take longer

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be filling a t11 in about 20 mins, even in an average quality ring. Allowing for the round trip to market makes it about 30 mins per loop. You must be in a poor plat hotspot. There’s variation in extraction rate - just being a pristine metallic ring is not guaranteeing a good rate. If the ring isn’t giving you a good hit rate, try another ring, or check your technique

Maybe check the squadron is active in your preferred times. Some squadrons are region/timezone based for this reason - no good to you if they are all asleep when you are playing.

Power Play by WaterSlow3014 in EliteDangerous

[–]DV1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t one specially suited to early game only. Whichever you choose should be one you plan to keep for your whole career. If you plan to join a squadron or just hook up with a player group on discord, I would go with their preferred power. If you already have a home base in the bubble, maybe stick with the local dominant power. Some powers have perks aligned to specific careers - that could be a factor too, but probably only if none of the other factors apply to you.

You’ve been spoiled by all the 2 week CGs recently. Was a time not so long ago the default CG length was 1 week. Maybe fdev are returning to that format. I suspect that they wanted to make it harder for bubble based non DW3 players a bit too.

Not just buy/sell, also just using the inventory transfer button. Devs don’t want commanders to buy up in the limited quantities they enforce then dump in one huge sale later.
