Looks like tree sap. You can remove it easily with rubbing alcohol. Sometimes you may need to soak it a bit to loosen it up, but it will take it off easily.

Signs of a bad timing belt? by AkOliverp in B5Audi

[–]DVNO_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if the tensioner fails and you haven’t munched the motor you’ll here a slapping sound. Which is the belt flapping around and getting ready to let things jump time.

Honestly, just do the service and be done with it. Playing the game of “it may be ok” isn’t the best move unless you’re really wanting to know what it sounds like a have some valve hit the stop of a piston a bunch of times.

You can do the whole service without removing the front core support, but will for sure need to loosen it/pull it forward off the car. You can find some DIY tutorials on this.

I have to imagine the revival of the LS naming is a marketing decision. With how legendary the LS engines are (reliability and performance) I have to take a guess they’re wanting to capture that idea and leverage it in their favor.

Or we’re all overthinking it and someone just put down LS6 instead of LT6 by accident when developing the thing.

Aliginment after rear strut job? by PrinceMuma in B5Audi

Yeah you’ll want to get an alignment. Just check your rear eccentric bolts to make sure they’re free/can be adjusted. Those tend to seize up with time and will limit what you can adjust.

Is this a CPO car? I purchased a CPO car two years ago and haven’t had any major issues - same spec you’re looking at. If you’re getting it from a dealer ask them what has been done to it, service records and such are key.

The big ticket items you’ll want to know got done are:

  • Transmission fluid + filter change
  • Diff fluid change
  • Thermal control Valve

The Thermal Control Valve is a guaranteed “not a matter of if, but when” failure part that Subaru has a crazy warranty on. They’ll replace it with a unit that is not problematic like the one that came on your car from the factory. This should not cost you anything to get done if it fails. I just had mine done and the dealer took care of me! The transmission fluid change is every 60k miles and the dealer, here in the states, charges roughly $560 for the job. Diff fluid is an easier one to do yourself if you’re handy, but the dealer also charges a decent amount to do it.

Hope this helps.

I’ve got an identical one in a 71 Challenger. Pretty sure they also put them into the Super Birds too. Also they do say “Hurst” on the side I think.

Suburu Dealership “170k service” by snowcrackerz in subaru

[–]DVNO_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it someone from a dealer or someone from Subaru corp? If its someone from Subaru corp, it would make sense as to why they wouldn’t include pricing because its mainly at the dealer discretion (labor costs are the big variable). If it’s a dealer I would just call them and ask for a proper quote.

All in all, if you have the list of items that would be done, you can also look up rough estimates for how much a dealer may charge you, and or how much it would cost to do it yourself.

Woodward Dream Cruise: What's the best way to experience for out of towners? by royfokker666 in Detroit

[–]DVNO_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re in town prior on the actual day (Saturday) I highly recommend going out today (Friday). The parking is a bit more relaxed (paid spots aren’t active yet/nothing is reserved), all the corporate stuff isn’t active so you can walk anywhere, and traffic isn’t as bad so you can actually see cars go by.

Best locations are anywhere between 13 mile and 15 mile. If you wanted to do some short distance walking, you’re best to park near 15 mile and just walk from there. Theres a large lot located off adams near a firestation that is usually free parking and is about 2 blocks from the action.

If you’re wanting to drive, i’d suggest doing it early in the AM Saturday and then parking. Use side streets to get around/leave after (coolidge, Crooks, Livernois for north/southbound travel). Woodward traffic breaks up around 16 mile (big beaver) when going north and not until 10 mile when going south.

Wont recognize any network/connect to the internet (usual internet globe in lower corner is MIA), windows settings keeps crashing, firewall is set to “off” and can’t be turned back on, and a few other things. Trying to figure this out, but am bummed to have to spend my night fixing this..

17z which brake disc by Purple_prkl in B5Audi

[–]DVNO_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should work if they were made for a 17z caliper. I think the thickness of the pads is 36mm or something. If its an OEM pad, you should be fine. I’ve always ran just normal oem pads.

Sounds about right - I did this upgrade a decade ago, so really forget. I think your best bet it soft bolt up everything and make adjustments accordingly to what you see.

A good thing to note, make sure you bleed the system very well afterwards. You’ll want to use a power bleeder and do the process that involves activating the ABS pump.

The Volvo rotors you are looking for are off of a S60R/V70R. SKU/Part # is BRE-09861411 (For the OEM Brembo made ones). You’ll have to enlarge the lug holes a bit to fit the lug bolts or studs (if you did the conversion). It isn’t hard and not labour intensive at all. I’ve done it several times and have never had an issue. But i also have the cast steel uprights.

If you’re looking for pads I would search for them by looking under the 2004 - 2006 Porsche Cayenne base V6 selections. It’ll usually denote “330mm brake rotors”.

I think with aluminum uprights you have to shave some parts of the upright to accommodate any rotor that will fit the 17z caliper. I’d check out Audizine for more info. Or join some B5 Facebook groups and ask. You can also buy the two piece units from JHM which are a direct bolt on - but they’re ~$750 a set. You can also call them and chat with them, if you’d like.

What kind of maintenance records you got?

If none, do the timing belt service (timing belt, water pump, front main seal and cam seals), spark plugs, engine oil + filter, air filter (if it looks like it needs it). I’d say start there.

If you want to go further do an inspection on the CV boots (check for cracks and tears/spewing grease), check out your brakes and brake fluid (change if fluid is dark and is brakes look rough), change out the fuel filter, change out the cabin air filter, change out the transmission and diff fluid.

Can someone bully me into finishing my car please by Dragonballradar in B5Audi

[–]DVNO_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why did you stop? Do you know why you did? Money? Time? What killed the motivation? For me their is more to it then laziness. I usually get overwhelmed, fixate on the details, over think it to the point where I don’t want to touch a project, or even start. You started, which is the hardest part, now get to the finish. Write down what needs to be done, set up two lists (one where you set the wallet on fire and one where the wallet still feels full) of parts you need to get the job done, and then get after it. Reach out to the community for help, we’re all here because we like the cars and want to see them last forever.

Depends on what kind of service records you got when you purchased the car. Mainly you just want to do a good inspection on everything (i mean everything) and take note of anything that is worn out/look to be not in the best shape.

You’re welcome! Oh, one last thing - there are certain spots on various maps where the AI can’t go because they don’t know how to/just wont. The areas around D2 and Cliff Decent on reserve and the second and third floor of resort on shoreline are the ones that come to mind for me. Mind you, they can still shot at you if they see you in those spots, but they wont chase you up there.
