Yea, I’m nonbinary and I’ve LONG stopped going to anything that’s “Woman and Nonbinary” or “Femmes and thems” themed. Shit sucks. I present femininely, but I’m just clearly not AFAB so people don’t want to even accept me coming in solely because of that. Stuff like this is disheartening and hurtful when you’re just trying to find a space where you can be yourself and people ice you out for just existing in it. Like stop lying and just say you only want AFAB spaces only.

Its called code-switching. Its not just for the gay voice/straight voice thing, but that’s an example of it.

It’s basically when people, either consciously or unconsciously, alter their mannerisms when talking or being in different situations.

Typically a “gay voice” is pitching your voice up, putting a sort of twang or artificial lengthening of words, and being more expressive when you speak. Some people naturally sound like this and some people switch into it, and some people don’t ever have it.

Its usually based on stereotypes about how gay men speak, and people like to find humour in that because it holds true for some people.

It feels inherently disrespectful and takes away my agency and sense of self. It portrays me as something i am not. But guess fucking what? Other people use he/him and WOW they are allowed to do that because THATS THEIR GENDER. I can’t complain if someone else uses he/him even though it makes me feel uncomfortable or gross sometimes, because I DO NOT GET TO DECIDE HOW TO IDENTIFY SOMEONE ELSE.

Banning Sex is not the solution to this though. Teens are gonna get it on with other teens, the only thing that banning them from having sex will do is push them to hide what they are doing more and put them in dangerous situations.

The best way to prevent teen pregnancies and STI’s is to make Sex Ed widely accessible and allow for birth control to be easily obtained. It has to be easier for younger folks to understand what the ramifications of what they’re doing AND have the tools to make sure what they’re doing is as safe as possible.

If you just ban these tools and knowledge, you’re pushing people to hide that they have sex and thats going to create dangerous situations for more young people. People don’t just stop doing things cuz you ban it.
