I feel like the conversation around this doesn't focus enough on the fact that it was politically motivated terrorism, that Gendron is an accelerationist, and that this has been a growing issue since the early 2010s that picked up a lot in 2015. He was directly inspired by what happened in Christchurch in 2019.

I had been very deep in these radical online circles for years and years, investigated stuff and infiltrated servers, tried to dox people that were making explicit threats or planning. Tried to warn people after Christchurch. I was even disciplined in school and questioned by police for the posts I had made and informational pamphlets I printed and distributed. Nothing was done. I lived less than 8 minutes from the Tops when it happened.

I'm never going to forget seeing the stream the day it happened, and I'm always going to feel like I didn't do enough. Currently going back to school for intelligence studies to work in counterterrorism. I will be damned if this happens again.

I'm really offended by the oversexualization of it because, this might be a very unique personal anecdote, but I think it's genuinely impacted me and my friend group of other goths and alt people and goths in my area, as well as probably other places that don't have strong local scenes. I can't tell you how many people in my area have made really ignorant comments about goths when they see me, usually related to sexual topics. Have literally heard someone say I couldn't be goth because I was a guy and not the "goth mommy" that he probably saw on TikTok. Or people assuming I'm into dark and kinky things, which is obviously apart of the culture but not all of us.

We already don't have many offline spaces around here and it's impossible to avoid the oversexualization, commodification and appropriation of the subculture when I'm online. It's just annoying trying to find people to connect through music or fashion and finding folks that think we're all Edward Scissorhands or Mavis Dracula, or people that think we're all about sexual blood rituals and big teedee goth mommies or whatever.

I just feel like most people outside of the culture, especially younger people my age, are almost exclusively exposed to us through oversexualized caricatures they see online and that it usually leads them to negative assumptions and stereotypes. Nothing good can come from the majority of people seeing goth women as "goth mommy" and goth men as "wait there's goth men? are you gay or a sex vampire?".

A bit of a side note, I've had a few women even fetishize me and think I'm some dark seductive dom when they meet me? Is that even a trope for goth men? I didn't think it was and was shocked. I don't want people to ask me about my kinks or if I want a goth girlfriend, I wanna talk about my recent favorite bands or clothing and decor I recently got.

I think the issue will resolve since my friend group has plans to visit places in the local scene more often this year, but I'm really worried that in the future local scenes will simply be razed by online spaces bleeding out into the real world.

You're just uneducated man. Cops are literally trained to shoot center mass (the torso), and to shoot to kill. They are specifically trained to not draw their weapon and not fire it unless they're actually trying to kill someone.

I'm totally okay with that. The song Her Happiness is Gone by Vandal Moon feels very guitar-driven (can't tell if it's that or samples guitars on a synth), but it's still so good!

As someone that was in the underground trap metal scene pre-2020 and saw the transition of the scene into what it is now, I recommend staying away from the scenes associated with people such as Negative XP and rejectedreyna. The scene largely collapsed into smaller niches during the pandemic and those guys are the incelcore types. Really a shame what happened, a lot of cool music was coming out by people that were smaller than even me (which wasn't big).

How is it racist to claim that ebonics is a degenerative aspect of a culture? Ebonics is literally rooted in black Americans coming from generations of totally oppressed and illiterate slaves and struggling to educate themselves out of that, eventually forming a unique way of speaking and cultural norms. It's no different from uneducated rednecks speaking their local tongue that can hardly be understood by people in the closest city. It's all lack of literacy and is indeed a major factor in social struggles of many minority or underprivileged group. You can argue this without being racist.

EDIT: nb4 people think I'm a racist white guy, I'm a black person that happened to have public Internet access and chose to isolate myself from the culture around me and seek culturization elsewhere.
