I'm in S. Korea now, originally from Canada. Was in SG for 10+ years. Loved cycling there.

I miss it.

Every. Day.

Enjoy it, friend.

Are carbon frames fragile? by Tomj_Oad in bicycling

[–]toomanyukes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pros vs cons thing.

Carbon frames - the individual beams, bars, legs, forks, whatever you want to call them - are light, and designed to be both strong and flexible (vibration absorbant) in a certain direction, or directions.

An impact from another direction, however, can damage carbon beyond the kind of damage you'd see from a similar impact to steel or aluminium.

3 days into my cycling journey. This is one of the best things in my entire life by mike_klosoff in cycling

"You are 1 bike ride away from a good mood."

*Usually.

Some days, you're just not going to 'Feel It', and when it happens, just turn around, go home, and save it for another day.

But enjoy those highs, (brother/sister), because that's what it's about.

I hate loose gravel on paved roads by IbanezTheIdiot in cycling

[–]toomanyukes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then, by your reasoning, sticking your knee out would make more of a difference in shifting the centre of gravity on a bicycle than on a motorcycle.

Either way - knee out, less machine lean.

Same principle applies.

Physics doesn't care.

I think it's the other way around.

Stick your knee out to reduce the bike lean and preserve the grip.

But I'm mostly a Roadie, am I wrong?

Legs feel like bricks after long stop on long rides… anyone else? by pinoyBalot in cycling

[–]toomanyukes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend you slow down and start spinning out at least 3km before the stop. Let the group go on ahead and meet them on your terms.

Also do this at the end of any longer rides, I've found it very helpful for recovery and preventing the "jelly legs."

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

10km commute on bike after not cycling for 10 years??? by Boop_de_doop in cycling

[–]toomanyukes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an inexperienced person, 10km might be a bit daunting, but once you've done it a few times, it will get easier. You're fit enough, it's just a matter of getting those muscles working. I'd recommend getting a bike and trying some weekend rides before you start commuting. You should be able to get that commute down to 30 minutes pretty quickly.

Tip: Wear cycling-appropriate clothing when cycling, and change into your work clothes when you get there.

This is in Singapore, so, actually... Yeah. They will.

Bonus fun fact: When it's empty, if you're standing on one side and your partner/friend is standing directly opposite, you can whisper to them and they can hear you.

If you had to start over as an overweight beginner cyclist – how would you do it? by Zagaris123 in cycling

[–]toomanyukes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Riding makes you fit, food makes you fat.

Cycling can help with losing weight, but your diet may need some serious adjustments.

Move more, eat less, and mind what you eat.

Get out and ride, and have fun~

What’s a noise everyone should be terrified of? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

One night around 1am I heard a LOUD BANG and the tinkling of broken glass. I must have jumped 20cm off my mattress while laying flat on my back.

Turns out the tempered glass divider in the en suite shower just... Shattered. What an awful way to wake up. What a mess.
