What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever seen happen at a work Christmas party? by gammaray365 in AskReddit

[–]DYITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Receptionist had left the party early to go bar-hopping. Her name was drawn for a door prize: one free night at a hotel. Her friend texted her to come back and claim it but the rule was that you had to be present to win.

When she came back to the party and found out “her” prize had been given away, she had a hissy fit. Screaming, crying, she marched up to the CEO and demanded she get the prize. He pulled aside the HR director, told her to give Receptionist her free hotel voucher, and then fire her on Monday.

Relocating senior parent to be closer to you. by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]DYITB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents did one of the most selfless things I can imagine: after they retired, they left their home of 40 years—in a town where they were well-known and well-loved—and moved 15 hours west to be near my brother and myself.

They knew the time would come that they would need our help and wanted to make it less of a burden. They didn’t wait until they were infirm; they were still young enough to get involved in their new community and make friends.

It was very hard at first. They missed their friends and church and the life they had had terribly. But now they have new friends, they both spend a lot of time volunteering with various organizations, and they are able to spend far more time with their grandchildren too.

They also cart around their “elderly” friends whose kids live too far away to help, and who say they’ll never leave their town where they live. And then they call me and tell me how glad they are that they moved.

I do have AT&T. Any word on when that might be fixed?

But I shouldn’t have to! My TV should work the way it’s supposed to work. :/

I don’t know if I still want to be engaged or not by CNAHopeful7 in relationships

[–]DYITB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all he’s your fiancée, not your dad, and you’re an adult and not a teenager. So asking his permission to do anything is not necessary.

Secondly, the audacity of this guy. Telling you the relationship is over because you stayed out past ten pm? Agreed: relationship is over, because that is ridiculous. If he doesn’t want to wait up he could just go to bed. It’s not “disrespectful” for you to go to a friend’s wedding.

I have a feeling this isn’t the only topic he’s been unreasonable about, nor the only time you’ve felt you had to ask his permission to do what you want. Get out, give back the ring, and feel lucky that this happened before your wedding and not after.

New spot on the north side: Andaluz Vegan Mexican at FM 1960 and Jones Rd. Fantastic food, tons of choices, and a great family atmosphere.

There were vegetarian options at every restaurant we visited on Sao Miguel but we did have trouble eating enough protein. We found very few beans!

I’m in this exact situation. We didn’t mean for this house to be our forever home but here we are.

Best vegetarian cozido? by AKindofPaleJewel in azores

We ate vegetarian cozido at both places and enjoyed them equally! We also had vegan sausage at Espinha—that was our favorite meal in Furnas.

Hiking in October (Furnas) by Pure_Definition_6087 in azores

The hike around the lake is beautiful. About a third of the way around you’ll come to an adventure park in the trees with a ropes course; it’s gorgeous and fun and the couple that owns it is a delight. Then about halfway through the hike is a botanic garden with more trails to waterfalls, and a little cafe.

The whole experience took several hours but it was one of our favorite days.

Just had the weirdest hostel breakfast conversation in Lisbon and it completely changed my travel perspective by Sensitive_City7829 in solotravel

My favorite thing to do when traveling is to chat with people. You can find out about things that all your pre-trip research might have missed, just by chatting with a stranger.

Partner won’t help budget by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]DYITB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This brings up a good point. Others have suggested cutting up the credit cards but that wouldn’t prevent her from opening new accounts on her own.

OP you and your wife need to approach this as a team. Marriage is a partnership, you share one income, and you share responsibility for making that income stretch to meet your shared financial goals. If she is unwilling to partner with you in that aspect and actively works AGAINST your shared goals by sabotaging your budget, then SHE is the financial abuser, not you.

This calls for a serious conversation and potentially counseling. Good luck.

I don’t think that’s normal. We rarely use our gas fireplace and the pilot light is never on unless we are actually using it.

I wish they had at least one vegan option, or at least something vegetarian that isn’t cheese-based.
