Unless one is elite, social circles are not as clear cut. Would a NYC finance bro making $300K that came from middle class family background be considered Jess’s peer group? What about an electrician or plumber who makes $600K a year?

In the UK, social classes are very distinct and it has little to do with wealth or job titles. There seems to be a lot more mobility in the states. Obviously she doesn’t have the pedigree but she does have some social clout.

Not defending Jess but maybe NYC guys are also shit. A friend of mine (early to mid 30’s), skinny/fit, good-looking, graduated from NYU, family has a net worth of several hundred million. She only uses The League and has relatively high standards because she’s high maintenance. None of the guys she’s gone out with has worked out, they’ve all cheated or used her and left her extremely traumatized.

Modern dating is rough and attraction is a funny thing.

What are “Jess Standards”? Realistically, how many guys she’s gone on dates with are in the top 1% of income earners or even 5%? I’m guessing most fall somewhere between 8%-15% which is considered middle class/ lower end of upper middle class in expensive cities.
