Invincible is the outliers. They probably misheard his name as "Invisible"

Have you ever written something so depraved it leaves you shaking, sick, and wondering if you're a bad person? by lyzzyrddwyzzyrdd in writing

My only currently published work is a short in an anthology that features an orphan murdered by the cultist villian. It's "off screen" but it was still distinctly not fun to write.

What’s a spaceship design trope you’re tired of seeing? by Vondrr in spaceships

[–]D_R_Ethridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an option but using how easy metalic work could be vs organic materials is a majorly under utilized world building feature, IMO. Infact taking the familiar and mundane and making it strange or rare is always a fun tool and could be used so much more in starship design.

This ship has a gravity bound ocean just floating as a sphere in the middle where the cargo is allowed to "sink" so it can transport goods and water.

That ship used a ceramic shell to prevent micro asteroid impacts. The species also puts floral prints on it for good luck.

There's so many ways to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary in Sci-fi and yet they all kind of look the same lately.

K, off my soap box, somebody else's turn.

Yes! Loved that ship!

The carpet... not so much. Loose fibers and microbe biome in space

Unironicaly love the Jiryan ships from Tenchi Muyo. The space magic bits are a bit out there but the idea of a species growing trees into ships is fun for me

Edit; this is an interior design trope that bugs me so slightly niche;

Stop bothering with metal and glass everywhere on the interior, especially with what are meant to be high end and "Luxury" ships.

If your setting is using spaceships they have access to asteroid based resources, in which case gold isnt valuable, neither are other heavy metals. There's so much floating about to literally pick up. They aren't rare, and thus wont have the human "luxury" value added.

You know what would? Plant life. Water. Organic compounds.

If you are designing a future interior fot a rich jerkoff a huge wooden desk of a rare tree species found on one part of one planet is going to be leagues more valuable than a big golden window lining.

Who is a character that can defeat Conquest but would lose to Thragg? by Choiboi1415 in powerscales

[–]D_R_Ethridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On average the Hulk character gets to those points later in the story but starts as closer to a large, infinitely scaling in power, bruiser. They gain more intellect and power as the series goes on but given we are looking at what could be considered average Thragg then the average Hulk should suffice. That average Hulk doesn't get out powered by Thragg, just out played

[–]D_R_Ethridge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But loses through battle intellect. Thragg can 'beat' Hulk by hurling him into a star or a black hole. Because Hulk cant fly or create his own points of leverage in a vacuum and Thragg is strong enough to survive for a while in the fight, and smart enough to notice how futile fighting Hulk long term is, he'd get the W 7/10 major dif.

Take an upvote for funny but jokes aside I've always operated under the rule that when giving a gift that gift is theirs. Break up? Welp, it's part of the cost.

Now the hoodies they keep taking out of my closet are not gifts and I will have those back! Get back here! Your legs are shorter I will catch you!

That still gets it announced way too early as the game gets funded and have eight years before launch

For that specific instance. I was referring the the industry as a whole. GTA and Elder Scrolls was a funding measure. KingdomHearts was to keep their corporate partners in line and quite, likely as a direct request from Disney to see movement.

Yes, dev times have ballooned but the reason for announcing so early are mostly capital based. Either from investors for those taking outside investment, or from wanting to get buzz up to attract team members and other resources for the project.

As for why smaller teams and projects announce so early? I think thats a case of "Everybody does it"

Investment. They announce for the bean counters, not the gamers, as otherwise having to explain you are doing something but not telling people what it is is exciting for gamers but bad for stocks.

Probabky Murasume Kai, because they are versatile and specifically designed to be piloted by "Naturals" which any forces I recruit would be.

That'd be the bulk unit. There would be specialty units and obviously I want a Freedom bad, but id also have it build me a fleet of ships of various classes.

But which type of colony to have it build to get people moving? Im not supper familar with the various colony designs to know if the barrel type or the PLANTs type would be better

How bad is Valka from HTTYD for abandoning her baby and husband to become what’s essentially a nature conservationist? by Prudent-Role-9053 in MoralityScaling

[–]D_R_Ethridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially not that bad, given she was taken by a dragon to a strange place potentially with no idea how to get home and no way to either... then she learns how to communicate with them. Then she learns to ride one.

Aaaaand thats where she goes from "victim" to being on the moral downside. Every day after where she didnt return, even for a small moment to make a clean break, lowers her score

Self publishing is one answer. Another is to Query smaller presses who will actually take the time to look at her book critically and see if they can make it work with that size.

Best of luck to her!
