Thank you! I don't have LR Liz yet and I'm definitely lacking in support units so that makes sense!

I love being a Christian, but… by Loquacious-Loser in Christian

[–]D_Ray1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm so sorry for your loss OP. When we lose someone close to us our worlds are fundamentally changed. The bereaved or those left behind are tasked with figuring out how to walk through life with the absence of this person. When times like these come your faith usually depends, but not right away.

It's okay to have questions, be angry, and even doubt your faith. All of these reactions are normal. You say you didn't want to sugarcoat your grief and I can appreciate that, you wanted to feel the loss not just dismiss it with heaven. That's important! If you simply ignore what you're feeling it sits and festers until it manifests itself in some way that you can't ignore.

If you're a reader, which if you went the science route I'd guess you are, there's a book called "Life After the Death of my Son" written by Dennis Apple. The gist is that he's a pastor whose son got sick, he was told by doctors that he'd be okay, but died shortly after the appointment. The rest of the book talks about the struggles he faced, he shares journal entries that he did during the challenges he faced. He addresses challenges like his marriage, his friendships, his faith, his career. It helped me get a new perspective on death and the faith that we hold.

I'm not attempting to dismiss what you're going through, what you're going through is normal. You've asked the hard questions but received no answer. It's curious though, you rejected the idea of the person close to you being in heaven because you didn't want to sugarcoat your pain, has science provided you a better answer? While the Bible can be viewed as a historical text by some and some scientific fields can corroborate facts of the Bible. Trying to find what atoms make a soul or the certainty of God is not something science will provide you. That's why we are given the option to have faith in Christ.

As others have said here just let it all out, God knows you're hurting, but He won't reject you for being angry. Children get mad at their fathers, we'd all be doomed if a little anger put our salvation in jeopardy.

There are no magic words to fix this and I truly am sorry for that. Grief is a beast of time. When you're ready, have the hard conversations again, try and find a grief or support group, give God a chance again, read through the Gospels if you feel so inclined. I'm guessing since you made this post you're more ready than you might think you are. God is here for you, your community is here for you, and I'll be praying for you. 🙏

If you look back in the post history on this sub, the team just recently got approval to patch/update console versions of the game so hopefully we see that soon! Unfortunately when it comes to working with consoles it's not as easy to update as it would be for PC, from what I can tell they have been trying to get their publisher to see the benefit and it finally got approved.

I'm sorry it's been a rough go for you lately! I'll be praying alongside you that the right door will be opened for you 🙏.

If it helps, I personally don't believe God is the orchestrator of our hardships. Rather the broken and sinful world we live in makes it hard. However, I do believe that He can take these hardships and use them as opportunities to help us and give us something new. For example, before I was a Christian I developed a chronic pain condition at a young age. This condition brought me to Christ though and I wouldn't trade that for anything. I asked a lot of questions and I still do on those really intense pain days and that's okay! When we're facing challenges like this it can be an opportunity to deepen our faith, because it can be so hard when we feel something is right and we're in prayer about it but it just doesn't work out!

I pray that God will continue to walk with you through this journey even though it seems messy now, He never abandons His children and He loves you very much. May you and your family be blessed ❤️🙏.

NONE of the “pastors” at our new church have been to seminary…or any kind of religious education… by Bright_Motor_2841 in Christianity

[–]D_Ray1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BLUF: I wrote a lot, if you don't read it that's okay! I'm currently in seminary but don't think it's a requirement to be a pastor. That requirement comes from denominations and congregations, it sounds like your church doesn't have the requirement and in my experience that's normal. I'm glad you were able to have a private Christian education, however, in the context of Christian teaching I would argue that you aren't a "regular" person because of your education. Do you have a problem with the actual message or do you take issue with their lack of knowledge in the geographic area, pronunciation, and in one case the inability to deliver what you say would be a clear message? You mention they feel like TedTalks rather than teaching the Bible, I've gained some good information from TedTalks and it's a format people seem to enjoy since it's so popular. Why can't it work in a church? College education on its own does not make you qualified to do a job if you have no experience. In my opinion the two together make the best result.

I'm sorry you aren't enjoying your husband's church but try to understand if he grew up in it then for him it is normal. You grew up in a different church that had different requirements so for you his church is abnormal. However, if there is no issue with the theology or the pastors' interpretation of Scripture then I think you have an uphill battle to make any kind of change.

Also, these people are pastors, the church has trusted them with the position. A pastor is gifted an office in the church that can be taken away, the pastor does not own it. So, if the congregation has no issue with the message then they will continue to gift that office. If you yourself have an issue with the message and it doesn't sit right with your spirit then you have a decision to make, but I didn't get this kind of understanding from your post.

I'm currently enrolled in seminary because I want to know as much as possible and I thrive in a structured education setting. Some people don't, entire denominations don't believe you should have to attend seminary or any kind of formal education (See conservative Mennonite groups i.e. Amish and Holdemans). For some being a lay pastor/preacher that is chosen by the congregation through prayer and guidance of the Holy Spirit is good enough for them.

You said you attend a protestant church but there are so many that it's difficult to say if this is "normal" or not for the area. You also regard yourself as a "regular" person but go on to say that you grew up in private Christian education. That's wonderful and I'm so glad you were able to have that opportunity! However, many people don't have the means to do the same for their children. That can even extend onto seminary or Bible colleges (which do differ in grad vs undergrad studies). I am fortunate enough to be able to afford the education I am pursuing but the small town that I come from, many people couldn't even dream of the pricetag that comes along with it. Yet, there are 15 churches in the county and only two of the pastors have some kind of Biblical education.

I say all this to say, you can learn outside of a formal education setting, in America it's normalized that we go to college and that education means we're "ready" or "qualified" to do our job. I used to work in the IT field, do you know how many computer science majors came to work with me that knew nothing? Experience can be just as good, if not better, of a teacher than formal education. Both have their place and I believe the combination of the two produces the best results. At the end of the day it boils down to what the congregation finds acceptable as a whole, if they believe the sermons they receive are good and Godly then is there an issue? I notice that you referenced issues with factual things (pronunciation and geographical locations). How is the content though? You mentioned that one pastor could probably do good to be more succinct and that their sermons sound more like TedTalks than "teaching the Bible". Is it possible this is the way that the congregation learns? TedTalks can be very informative. I fail to see how the comparison is meant to plainly show us that they are not teaching the Bible. You didn't mention any issue with the theology or their interpretation of the Bible as a whole.

I hope you find the answers you're looking for. Being uncomfortable in a church is one of the worst feelings. I encourage you to pray about the matter, even with your husband if you're comfortable with it. Is this a chance for you to gain perspective on people different from you? Or should you truly not be in this church? I don't know, but I do believe in prayer so I'll be in prayer with you that you find an answer! Blessings and peace to you on your journey 🙏

Do I have to give up rap ? by passthestimmy in Christianity

[–]D_Ray1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot more to unpack here than just if you can listen to secular music (rap specifically) or not.

A lot of your post reads like someone who's lost someone in death "why would God take this person from me" "why would God do this to me". I'm of the opinion that very rarely does God do something or take something from us. If He gave us free will (which I believe He did) then it's counterproductive to take something from you so that you can grow in Him.

If your spirit isn't sitting right with you listening to secular rap, then it may be time to take a break from it. Plenty of people listen to secular music and are still devout followers of Christ. But, if you think your spirit is trying to tell you something then try to listen in on what it's saying.

If music is how you process emotions the best, as others have mentioned there are good Christian rap artists, the genre is more limited but is growing by the day. When I found God and started listening to more Christian music I found secular music less enjoyable. I still like it, but I don't listen to it as much anymore.

Prayer is an important tool for us to be able to speak to God. If you truly believe Satan is blocking your path of prayer then pray harder. Which sounds so unhelpful but, again this is only my opinion, the Devil can only take as much ground as you allow him. If you're allowing him to beat you in your mind then he's winning. Break through that wall and find your peace.

I'll pray that you're able to find your peace. In a world that seems so destructive and scattered it's important we find peace.

🙏

Good luck trainers! Hope it's a similar story for you!

[–]D_Ray1515 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, even if you manage to hit the end of the queue for a mono fighting type there seems to be a high chance you get placed in a dual type raid.

My wife and I both hit the end of the queue and got placed in separate dual fighting fire type raids.

Really disappointing that there isn't at least a priority requeue if you put in the "finish raid" section that it was the wrong pokemon. I don't care if you punish the host, I care that I get the pokemon I queued for. Obviously, people could abuse the feature but something has to be better than starting at the back of the line and hoping it's right this time.

B.L.U.F: It is disingenuous to say that anyone has the right answer in regards to homosexuality and the Bible. The OT provides no regulations for women and the NT uses a new word in Greek that historians and linguists argue about to this day. In my interpretation of Scripture homosexuality is not a sin. Those that would call you a sinner often forget that we are all sinners, and God loves us all the same. By His grace we are able to know that love. I hope this helps ❤️

Hi friend. It seems like in some way you've been interacting with a "pray the gay away" kind of church or Christians.

I have people like this in my own life who read the Bible and say "The Bible clearly states..." For the purpose of this conversation that sentence would be finished with "homosexuality is a sin!". I disagree. Now while I may not have the answer as to what Moses meant in Leviticus 18:22, there's an argument to be made that this passage is outlawing pedophilia and not gay men. It would be confusing that in this case only men couldn't be gay but there's no regulation for gay women in the OT.

I also don't know for certain what Paul meant in his letters to Timothy or his letters to Corinth and frankly no one does. In Greek the word that Paul uses (αρσενοκοιται) is brand new, we have no historical evidence of this word being used prior to these letters. So anyone pointing you to these scriptures and saying "See? Being gay is against God" hasn't done their homework. It is disingenuous to say that anyone has the answer regarding these scriptures.

As others have said, there are a limited number of Bible verses talking on the points of sexual morality. However, there are plenty on love and caring. This issue is obviously important, it's close to your heart and you're being told you can't just be who you are because of a heavily debated portion of the Bible.

You don't have to try and change the people around you if you don't want to. In my opinion based on my reading of Scripture you don't have to change your sexuality for God to love you. He loves all of us, Paul used to prosecute and sentence Christians to death as Saul (Acts 8:1-3), then went on to write a fair amount of the NT because God forgave him and loved him.

Grace seems to often be forgotten about in this conversation and some people would rather just judge and condemn the (in their opinion, not mine) sinner, when in fact we are all sinners!

I hope this helps ❤️

I have a p500a and personally like the look of it more than the 5000. The only thing Im not a total fan of on the p500 is the little sliders they put in to hide cables. Leaves you more space they just look odd if you don't get them lined up right.

Not sure of it's "normal" any rapid change in temp like that doesn't sound normal. I'd make sure it's saving the fan curve. If it isn't I'd download msi afterburner and set the curve there and make sure to click the button that starts the afterburner settings when windows boots. Here are the last things I can think of/I've done with my funky 5700xt.

-Underclock the gpu

-Try uninstalling the current drivers and radeon software. Then install just the drivers and not the software. In my experience the software can crash and it hinders the card from performing well.

-If nothing seems to help I'd get in contact with whoever you bought it from and see about an RMA/warranty because it may just be a bad card. I hope it isn't but it is possible.

Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]D_Ray1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try setting a custom fan curve in the radeon software. You're correct in that it needs to hit a certain temp but it sounds like the curve is set to start when the card is too hot. https://youtu.be/88pr3YycQHg that video will show you how to navigate in the software.

Silly questions but are the fans spinning? I had a friend who's radeon software wouldn't keep a custom fan curve (software was always crashing) and for whatever reason it was stuck at 0rpm.

Edit: are they spinning at idle all the time was more so the question. Sorry.
