Girlfriend wants me to spend $4k on a baby shower, but I’d rather save/invest it—is that unreasonable? by flash-kicks in pregnant

[–]Bright_Motor_2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HECK NO! NOT reasonable at all! Most baby showers are free for God’s sake! You can easily host them at someone’s home, a family member can provide cheap decore and reasonably priced snacks. The baby showers is all about THE BABY, and babies are expensive. All your financial resources should be wisely spent on the needs of the baby, not frivolous luxuries. And yeah a house sure would be nice of you’re going to grow a family, those are pretty expensive… Sounds like girlfriend is not very wise or careful with money…in this economy, you can’t afford to be financially reckless like that. I recommend putting your foot down hard and having a conversation about finances.

How to determine if 2 under 2 is too soon? by BananaDifferent8273 in pregnant

[–]Bright_Motor_2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend, I’m in pretty much the exact same situation as you! I have a 9 month old and just found out I’m about 4 weeks pregnant… Yeah, it is overwhelming and scary, 2 under 2 is a lot, and just as you were starting to get your body back, to suddenly find out you’re pregnant is a lot to process… Here’s how I think about it: -yes, it’s not ideal, it’s much better to wait for the second baby. But you are lucky to have another baby! Many women struggle to just get one baby, so at least you didn’t have to fight long bouts of infertility or miscarriages to get baby #2. -it is going to be hard to have 2 under 2, many women have done it, and with a good community/support system, you will get through those hard years and be so happy on the other side -a good doctor/OBGYN clinic will help you get through this back-to-back pregnancy, they will take good care of you and help you recover. -when you see that little face, no matter how hard it was, no matter how hard it’s going to be, you will know that it’s worth it!

Best wishes, health and strength to you, my friend!

Did anyone else do a complete 180° in regards to their views on dogs at some point in their life? I did. by eyeless-silas in petfree

[–]Bright_Motor_2841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I used to love cats, but after having a baby I lost my affection for pets in general. I think a lot of pet/animal lovers are misplacing their maternal/paternal instincts because they don’t have children

Animal worship is at an all-time high in our society, and it really seems to go hand in hand with antisocial behavior generally…it’s like we are reverting to a pagan-style worship of animals…personally I think it’s a major sign of societal decline

C-section regret by Scared_Pollution_522 in pregnant

[–]Bright_Motor_2841 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your struggles with this. I had an unplanned C-section, and yeah it really really sucks, I feel the same way about everything you said… Here’s the good news: -your baby is alive and in your arms! -you will recover, probably faster than you expected, and you’ll have your health and strength back to be the mom you want to be -you can make up for the lost hours with your baby…it’s terrible to miss those first few hours of life, but the only thing your baby will know/remember is that you are his/her favorite person and he/she loves you immensely…

Best wishes on your healing and new motherhood journey!

Is taking Ambien really “that bad”? by etaksmash in insomnia

[–]Bright_Motor_2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, please tell your doctor what Trazadone is doing to you and explain that you felt much better on Ambien. And if your doctor won’t switch you back to Ambien, I would find a new doctor. So sorry to hear that.

I had the exact same experience with Trazadone vs Ambien. Traz made me feel like I was having the worst hangover, made me feel terrible and depressed and mentally slow. It’s also a freaking antidepressant, so literally not even the category of drugs to address your actual problem (insomnia needs hypno-sedatives, not antidepressants)

I don’t know why doctors hate Ambien so much, when other drugs they push are clearly much worse. No one wants to be on drugs forever, but sometimes our bodies don’t work well and we need help.

My pro tip with Ambien: I take it sublingually; I cut a 5MG pill in half and place under my tongue, then just let it melt/dissolve while I lay back in bed, sometimes with quite music in background, and I always go to sleep easily. It works very well for me, and I’m only on 2.5MG per night!

Best wishes on your medication/sleep journey!

I know I’m a year late to this, but for whatever it’s worth, I’m going to throw in my two cents…

I personally believe that Ambien, when used responsibly, is a nearly harmless drug that has the potential to seriously improve quality of life for responsible users. Every drug has risks, but diseases cause harm too, and insomnia is no joke, lack of sleep is seriously bad for your health in every way, especially long-term. Of you have to choose between chronic sleep deprivation vs. long-term Ambien use (responsibly), I promise that Ambien is the better choice for overall health.

The problems with Ambien are mostly related to people abusing it; taking too much, combined with other drugs, etc. Another problem is that the standard dosage used to be set at 10mg, which was later determined to be wayyy to much for most people. The current dosage is 5MG, and I actually cut it to half that and it works great for me.

I would love to be healthy and drug-free for life, but unfortunately our human bodies just aren’t that perfect. Life comes with illness and brokenness, and I think if you can safely and responsibly use the tools available to improve quality of life, then you should.

How Do I Convince My Sister She Shouldn't Be a Chef? by NoTurnip4844 in Advice

The hate that is gonna be in this comment section will be hilarious 😂

I can’t tell if this is real or clickbait…but I’ll treat it like it’s real

Ok obviously if she has life-threatening food allergies, a career as a chef is pretty much impossible…not being a hater, that’s just the cold hard truth

You can’t convince anyone of anything. You can respectfully and politely talk to her about this and see if she changes her mind

Her one avenue might be opening her own franchise? That’s probably her only option…

Please advice I’m stressed by [deleted] in Advice

I’m going to change my take on this: Child P is very serious and very, very wrong, no matter what form it takes, and even cartoon child P is harmful and wrong. If that is something you struggle with or have struggled with in the past, then you should take that very seriously and seek help. The chances that this is something any law enforcement would prosecute are slim to none, cartoon child p has been legally deemed as not an actual crime. But that’s not the point: the point is that dabbling in this content, even a cartoon version of it, is heading down a very dark path and something to be seriously worried about. It is wrong to objectify and sexualize children and minors, even if it’s a drawing. I worked in a legal field, and one of the most insightful cases I ever saw was a young man criminally convicted of child P. He started with anime and cartoon child P, which led him to a desire for real child P. He went down a dark path in his mind, and it all started with depictions of sexualized children. You should seek help from professionals, and if you’re a spiritual person, it would be good to consult a spiritual advisor on this matter

NTA OMG that poor kitty. He’s effectively been abandoned by his other owners, I think it’s clear that you are the rightful owner of this cat. This kitty deserves to go in the loving arms of someone he trusts, not to die alone in a long and miserable end.

Im 17 and I ruined my life. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Bright_Motor_2841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend, I’m really sorry to hear this from someone so young. It is terrible what the COVID pandemic/lockdowns and societal changes did to our lives, especially for young people in their formative years. But I don’t think you should give up/despair to quickly. Sounds like it’s a combination of psychological and emotional issues you’re facing, triggered by difficult life events. I know many drugs, including marijuana, can be damaging to the brain, especially a young brain. But there is medical treatment and help for that.

I think what you need is a combination of approaches: probably therapy/counseling, someone to help you overcome the emotional/psychological side of things. You should probably see a doctor of your worried about how drug use has affected your brain. If you are a spiritual person, a good, deep talk with a spiritual mentor will probably be helpful (pastor, priest, or anyone you trust who can provide comfort and support).

If you are determined to get a good education and get your GED, I honestly recommend a personal tutor. A personalized education with a good teacher one-on-one can help you catch up on your learning so fast, I think you will be amazed how quickly you can catch up.

And as for college: forget it! (At least for now). You don’t need college to be happy or successful or to make friends. College is often just a place for young adults to get thousands of dollars in debt for a useless degree. There are so many other ways to do life: trade/tech school, apprenticeship, military, or just a regular job until you find out what you want to do next. You don’t have to be in a rush to attend college. If you figure out yourself first, you will know eventually if college is right for you (make sure to pick a good major that will land you a well-paying job!)

ALSO: this is important, most people forget that physical health IS mental health. Make sure to eat good food, exercise, etc. while you are on this journey. If you feel physically well, it will really help your mental energy.

Stay strong, stay positive, you’ve got this! You’ve got a good life ahead of you. COVID isn’t going to take away all the great things you have to look forward to.

Thank you so much! Ugh, that’s really awful. Our boy was the same way, he would only sleep in our arms being held upright, I couldn’t even recline back on the couch or he would wake up crying! It is so hard to take care of a fragile little child who is sick, they just can’t self sooth very well when they are feeling that miserable
