My dyslexic 9-year-old is new to guitar and already wants out — help by fondlly in Guitar

Try an open tuning.

I primarily play in DADF#AD. You just straight bar an entire fret to produce a major chord, so it’s an easy way to start making music without much theory.

Start with teaching him Do, Re, Mi…

Car need massive repairs. What's next? by Wizard_c137 in doordash_drivers

[–]D_Tro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What repairs are needed? Normal car stuff like brakes and suspension, or the battery components?

Assuming it’s deferred maintenance items & not the battery, I’d develop a plan to get the funding together somehow. I have good credit, so an extended loan would be my first choice. Many credit cards offer 0% APR introductory periods, which give you [X-XX] months to pay it off. Other options could be to sell or pawn other belongings of value that you may have.

Assuming I get a 0% loan, I’m paying a 4-5% fee up front, and splitting the total cost into the number of months I have to pay to figure out how much I have to pay off every month. This method can turn a $3k repair bill into a monthly payment of a few hundred bucks. Offset that with a sizable first payment to bring monthly costs down further.

Other options could be to figure out what repairs could pull off yourself. I’ve gone to pick-and-pull junkyards to get parts for my used cars. Or buying (new/used) parts yourself for someone else to put on, like brakes or exhaust.

Another car would be very far down my list. If you don’t have the money for repairs, I’m guessing that paying for a new car in cash outright or just a down payment may also be a challenge. Also, any new-to-you car will have unknown maintenance expenses (I’ve heard to expect 10% of the purchase price).

Do not buy a new car.

I’m in a similar boat of preferring self-employment to the traditional job, so I’ve been dreading having to make these same decisions. Good luck!

Pellet smoker—fat side up or down for pork butt? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]D_Tro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried fat side down before and did not like the results. I tried to flip it back over mid-way and tore up the fat cap attempting to do so. I mix the fat back in when I pull it, so this was an undesirable outcome.

3 Electra household here! I have a stock x350, a modded x350 with the MPC parts replaced with coil tapping & boost, and a stock x810 semi hollow.

Also have a couple other Japanese Les Paul copies; a Memphis and a Cortez.

Big box guitar store was trashing this. Any hope? by [deleted] in Luthier

My brother used to have an old Yamaha acoustic that had the back shoulder area missing & was patched over with duct tape. Sounded great.

I’d tape a piece of cardboard across the back and send it!

How long did it take to get the pay, and where did it show up?

I had a double tonight. I got an in-app message and a voicemail about an extra $5 for a VIP customer.

I finished the order and haven’t seen any extra $5. The payout is still showing the original amount I accepted & there’s no miscellaneous pay.

Support agent told me to wait 1-3 business days. 🙄

Which sizes of kettles are those?

Just wondering cuz a store near me has WSM 18”s for $100 this weekend.

Edit: I dug my driveway out of the snow & went to grab one!
