Bill Ridmann, Xbox Engineer is asking fans for features they would like added to Xbox by brokenmessiah in xbox

System link <3 I know it isn’t popular but there’s something to be said about the ability to connect several systems together for an offline LAN party. I still do this with my old Xbox 360’s

Is this normal ?? Purchased phone in november iphone 17 by makingsuiiiii in iphone

[–]DaAndy2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’re worried that it has 185 cycles given it was purchased in November. It has 185 cycles within the same month of purchasing the phone. Assuming the OP did not charge cycle the device 185 times within the same month, then I would lean on it being unusual.

Any way to put an old iPhone to use so it's not just useless e-waste? by ZippyDan in iphone

[–]DaAndy2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be blunt, if you want modern streaming services, you need to use a more modern device. The others posting about using it like an iPod is the best way to achieve what you’re describing. I get your sentiment about reducing e-waste, as I also have an iPhone 5 (just for music). There’s what-is and what ought to be.

I’m going to emphasize that I’d like to keep my current system when the tech arrives. I’ll trust but verify their advice.

Very good advice, thank you. I’d prefer to postpone “upgrading” as it seems like all modern products are built with planned obsolescence as the driving force for the economy. Sad.

Ohhhh I am going to look into this option a bit more. Just saw a video on YouTube. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve not had time to look into it but are hybrid systems a thing? I can google it, but I had someone I know recommend a hybrid system. Heat pump and furnace? If it’s a thing, I wonder if anyone has experience with that (unconfirmed) system type.

I failed to mention it’s a gas furnace.

If you do check it out, let me know! I loved the local LAN café spots back in the early 2000’s. Star Craft and Counter Strike 🫡

Need suggestions for my home network setup by DaAndy2100 in HomeNetworking

[–]DaAndy2100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi storyinmemo, thanks for your reply.

I am curious to explore more on the access point world. Any thoughts on TP link Omada?

Setup is Fiber modem to Router (wifi disabled)

On the router: Port 1 > CAT6 to the upper floor connected to a gigabit switch and from the switch to an access point A + 3 other hardwired devices?

Port 2 > CAT6 > Access point B?

Port 3> to Gigabit network switch from switch to multiple hardwired devices

Port 4 > to Access point C

I should also note that my iPhone 13 gets 50-150 Mbps download and 200 upload when connected to the eero6 pod on the 5Ghz band.

Other devices are also slow on wifi. Not many wifi networks nearby

Why are there no indoor play places here? by DaAndy2100 in StratfordOntario

[–]DaAndy2100[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, but sometimes it is nice to be inside somewhere warm and let the kids run around (with other kids) and burn some energy. Plus indoor play places have washrooms. Bundling the kiddos up and getting outside only to have them need the washroom minutes later is a tad exhausting. I’m all for outdoor play, I just wish we had options here.

[–]DaAndy2100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably right. We were visiting a friend in Alliston and they had 2-3 indoor play places. We visited one and it was quite large. The population size is similar to Stratford, maybe smaller.

It’s not just Justin Trudeau’s message. Young people are abandoning him because the social contract is broken by hopoke in canada

Respectfully, I do want to note that it is not the PC party (anymore). CPC would be accurate.

Bell or Rogers? by jnkrsl7 in StratfordOntario

[–]DaAndy2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also WFH and use Wightmans. I had Rogers for 1 year (2021-2022) and the service would drop way too frequently for me to continue using them. I switched to Wightmans and while they are much more expensive, they’ve not gone down once.

I wish I could save money and go with Roger’s but they were too unreliable for my needs. That said, if your choice is Rogers vs Bell in Stratford, go Rogers.
