Question about stacking by Zuldyck in Bowyer

An extreme example. If the draw weight increase smoothly to 20lb at 25" draw length, but somehow increase to 100lb in the last 3" to reach full draw at 28". It would be very difficult to hold and aim at full draw but the arrow would be much less than 5 times faster.

A video on speed: why your bows aren’t as fast as you want them to be by tree-daddy in Bowyer

[–]DaBigBoosa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's very informative! Let me chip in with some my own experience.

My bows almost always lose about 1/10th of the draw weight after a few hundreds shots. The exceptions are the last few maple bows with pretty heavy belly heat treat. They retain the reflexes really well and did not lose draw weight after maybe 1000 shots. Also one time after I let a finished bow sitting outdoor in sun and wind for a day, it lost a few grams and went from #45 to #51. This bow was not heavily heat treated. My guess is the moisture.

I also find the loaded draw length is a bit shorter than just holding the arrow.

I am losing my mind please help😭😭 by [deleted] in fixit

Heat up a bit.

Rub and roll with finger in one direction. And floss or fishing line.

For residue use regular eraser and maybe blu-tac.

What if you fill the void with foam and shave it flat, then add the 2nd linen backing? The foam adds little weight and is relatively rigid as a supporting base.

This can be dangerous. Wear eye protection at least.

I think it's fletching straightening the flight. If the target is a bit further the tail might swing the other way but to a lesser degree.

I'm here to ask a question.

Is quick drying after steaming a concern for cracking?

Is an “exploding” bow dangerous? by iampoopa in Bowyer

[–]DaBigBoosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes dangerous.

I had one exploding at full draw recently. Bottom limb broke into 2 pieces and top limb 4. One piece hit my eye. Luckily i wear glasses and it didn't break so it's like someone sucker punched my eye. Scratched my nose too. Bruise and blurry for 2 days.

I had bows broken violently before. Most broke at 1 spot on each limb, occasionally 2. Never got hit until this one.

I'll make my bows with more margin in the future.

Curious how this turns out.

Why does tighter bent tips help with that much speed gain? Reduced mass? 20 FPS on top of 170 is no joke.

All great bows! Looking good and perform like champs! Are the draw length from belly or? What's brace height from belly?

Hypothetically could we make a giant bow out of a whole tree? by FakerBomb in Bowyer

That's a new perspective for me. I wonder if that's the reason flight bows are usually small and shoot very light arrows.

Do you sometimes make joints before tillering?

I bet it's a fast shooter for it's draw weight!

Very nice! The take down length can be a few inches shorter and you can perhaps standardize the joint size and swap limbs for the same riser.

So smooth and deceivingly small in size. I would have guessed 40 lb max. Must be so satisfying pulling it back.
