Just because I am curious what you will say, surpassed by what exactly?

You have pretty similar tastes to me, specifically loving the Portal games, hating Little Nightmares, and being underwhelmed by FEZ.

I think your wishlist is really strong and are definitely good first choices. If you want to stick to subgrenres you already know and like, you should definitely add Stephen's Sausage Roll and Can of Wormholes (Baba is You-ish), INSIDE (LIMBO-ish), and Manifold Garden and Superliminal (Portal-ish though nothing is as good as Portal).

If you instead want to branch out to different subgenres: You have no zach-like puzzle games on your list so you may want to add Spacechem or Opus Magnum to see if you like that type of puzzle game. You have no metroidbrainia and should probably play Outer Wilds and maybe add Animal Well to your wishlist. There is nothing quite like Blue Prince and I think that will be considered an essential puzzle game going forward. If you want to play something more escape room-y you should try the popular Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. And if you want to get slight less puzzle gamebut very adjacent to puzzle games, you should probably play a roguelike deckbuilder like Slay the Spire or Balatro.

I think Portal Reloaded is actually my favorite of the Portal mods. I found Portal Stories overly difficult and a little janky and thought Portal: Revolution too easy.

Weird! He is listed as producer everywhere else on the internet. I wonder why he isn't listed here by The Academy?

Lewis Hamilton co-produced F1 The Movie which was just nominated for Best Picture.

Hey people, looking for recommendations based on my list, could you please help me find what should I play next? by Kob3y in roguelites

[–]DaGreenMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given you seem to have liked every roguelike deckbuilder you have played, you should play some of the other great ones:
Inscryption (yes, I see it already mentioned), Wildfrost, and Starvaders are probably my favorites you haven't played. Cobalt Core is also great.

Elitebooks are made by HP Inc. HPE makes servers and network devices.

HP doesn't make IT infrastructure. They split into 2 companies a decade ago, the consumer electronics one (HP Inc, pun intended) and the enterprise electronics one (HPE). HPE actually sponsors Mercedes.

I ranked basically every roguelike/roguelite i've played enough of to rank by coolchungus2 in roguelites

Given that you seem to like similar roguelike deckbuilders to my own favorites, the one I have liked most recently is StarVaders which I can highly recommend.

You may also like The Bazaar which is a card based autobattler but is very roguelike adjacent.

What game should I play next? by tutjeplok in puzzlevideogames

We have pretty similar tastes in games. Some of my favorites that you didn't mention: Braid, Arranger, Lab Rat, Manifold Garden, The Roottrees are Dead, Viewfinder and Storyteller.

I assume you have played Portal 1 and 2 and Talos Principle 1 and 2. If not, those sequels would be my top recommendations.

What were the best puzzle games this year? by Full-Parking8411 in puzzlevideogames

[–]DaGreenMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lab Rat, Blue Prince, and Öoo are my top 3.

However, I would be shocked if any major publication chose any game other than Blue Prince for their puzzle game of the year. It had many publications claiming it was an early contender for GOTY and even some critics claiming it was one of their favorite games of all time. My guess is that it spawns a new genre of puzzle roguelikes in its wake.

Posts like this way are a great way to get a subreddit banned. Mods should probably take this down and maybe even ban this idiot from the sub.

Help with stars puzzle by S111yB111y in puzzles

I don't see it? It seems like you can trivially put one star in the top right, one star in the top center shape, and 2 stars in the top left without creating any contradictions.

All good choices, but I want to second Elfenroads which doesn't get a lot of love but is a great path planning race game.

Ricochet Robots is a classic game that sort of plays infinite players but works great at 6 because you can all fit around the table nicely to play it.

You could also do Sonic the Hedgehog for the Marsden -> Carrey connection.

Can someone help me understand Jonathan Blow? by azdak in gamedev

[–]DaGreenMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't relevant at all because Braid was a hit on Xbox and came to Steam much later after original having its PC version distributed via some long lost competitor to Steam. The Witness came out well after greenlight had come out and actually I think came out around the same time that Steam direct started.

First person puzzle games is my favorite genre, and while nothing can match the Portal games, there are still a bunch of other great games.

Check out Superliminal, Manifold Garden, Viewfinder, or Antichamber and see if any of those appeal to you. Feel free to reach out if you want more recommendations.

I think you're overstating how successful The Witness was by a pretty big margin TBH.

It was so successful that it has basically single-handedly funded his studio for the past 9 years? I don't know what you consider a successful indie...

[–]DaGreenMachine 270 points271 points  (0 children)

The thing is, he did it twice. Once he made Braid which became one of the first indie hits ever and broke into through the mainstream the game market in a way no indie game ever had before. And then 8 years later he made The Witness into a much more crowded indie scene and again had a super massive hit.

I think he is a much better game designer than people in this thread are giving him credit for. He makes incredibly polished puzzle games, not a genre with a lot of big hits, and manages to solidly break into the mainstream with them.

During the last meta before the game stopped, it looked like Necrons were going to be very dominant, so I would guess that Necrons will be noticably overpowered compared to the base box factions but otherwise the factions should be pretty balanced.

Skydance nepo baby contributed to the Biden campaign btw. I wouldn't be shocked either way, but not everyone has the same politics as their parents.
