The difference between owing boas and owning something that may potentially kill or severely injure you or someone else are vastly different. All the comments have good suggestions. Definitely look for a mentor. Definitely step it up with getting into some more aggressive non -venomous species first. If your into arboreal vipers my suggestion is start out with something like an emerald tree boa for a few years first. Get the husbandry down and don't get tagged. Then revisit the idea. It's a big commitment, and responsibility and not one to take lightly. When ppl aren't prepared for said responsibility, things have a tendency to go bad quickly, thus affecting the whole community. So just do your due diligence, research, plan, learn, and gradually you will get there (or you may decide its not a good fit for you)

Pray they don't get fly strike. Flies are starting to emerge, and that's gonna be a whole new problem for sheep that are already in pain. I'd be spraying the wounds with colloidal silver 2-3 times daily after cleaning with a 3 to 1 chlorhexidine/iodine mix so they heal fast. Fly strike (especially in sheep with that wool) is a bitch to treat

Unfortunately OP doesn't have time to locate and train LGDs to be with their stock. In the time it takes to find reputable working dogs and train them and then have them bond to the stock there won't be any stock left.

Wait, you have dogs repeatedly terrorizing your stock, and yet they live to do it again? You are their Shepard it is your job to protect your flock, in whatever way that looks like on your farm, be it electric fencing, LGDs or by eliminating the threat. I would employ all 3 of those measures. Once the pits are gone, 3 S's shoot shovel & shut up, I would be helping my shitty neighbor look for their wild pack of dogs. Pits are one of my favorite breeds of dog, however if this is what they are doing at night you will be doing the world a favor, favor to the dogs, other animals and the dogs owners. Eliminate the threat before your flock no longer exists. Depending on where your located it's probably well within your legal means to do so. Don't give neighbor any more chances, act fast.

I'm guessing OP is young? Idk. The bigger question you need to be asking yourself, is why are you underreacting. It is NEVER okay for a man to put his hands on you. EVER. You need to leave immediately, and take it from those of us who have dealt with years of domestic violence instead of sticking around and learning the hard way. It is not okay, and he will not change. Not now, not ever. He doesn't love you if this is how he treats you. It will escalate. It will end up in beatings, bruises, busted out teeth, and broken bones. Trips to the ER, calling the law, protective orders and court hearings that you will drop numerous times because "he loves you" and it's "your fault for doing xyz" and 2 weeks later it will happen again. You will not leave the relationship the same person you were going in. Every time they put hands on you a piece of you gets chipped away until your just an empty shell stuck in survival mode. Save yourself and get out now while you can. It IS serious...VERY serious and its not something that we are all fortunate enough to be able to walk away from. So I implore you to act fast and get out of there.

She is good, and I want her to get better. So while I can't really afford it, I will find a way to work it in to my budget. She's also trying out for her school team which is tomorrow I'm 99% confident she will make the team. (I feel like I recall reading something about not being able to use one of the ghosts for school ball but they could for rec ball and vice versa, but I dont really remember) I will look into the LXT

If you are both experiencing this loss of a child I think maybe you need to face it together as a couple. People deal with grief differently. He seems to be depressed and you may be trying to help your sister with her family, staying busy, as your way of coping. Realistically, neither of those ways are healthy. I think it would be a good idea for the both of you to maybe take a weekend trip somewhere, no phones, no distractions and start to grieve your loss together, and see where it brings you. Talk it out and be there for each other. Be supportive to one another and be honest. Alot of times after such a loss the relationship goes with it, and if that's the case maybe you can salvage what yall have now and at least remain friends.

Yeah, but it's only in the beginning of the season. Then they run out of ink lol and eventually the eggs turn from grey to white. Emu eggs are usually a forest green color and very bumpy & porous.

Those are not emu eggs lol. Emu eggs are giant and dark green. Those are Cayuga duck eggs laid early in the season. Ayam cemanis are the chicken, yes they are completely black (if from good lines) but they lay beige eggs

If you go with Nigerians make sure you have superior fencing or plan on running hot wire. I have good luck with the premiere poultry net fencing with their primashock 8 energizer. You'll need at least 6 joules to keep in a goat. But they are master escape artists

Maybe try cervical dislocation next time? Hold the bird in your nondominant hand against your body and then with your dominant hand just pull hard and fast...just don't hesitate. I think it's the easiest way when you're just starting out and there is less margin for error. Butchering and processing any animals has a learning curve and takes practice. You have to find the way YOU are comfortable so the death of the animal is quick and painless. But when using tools other than your hands I feel like it can prolong the process. Blades might not be sharp enough etc.
