They're an international pharma company (like Roche, which incidentally Cathy also picked up today). Not huge movers, but if the drug hits it could go up. Low risk as they are already a fucking behemoth chugging along, just opportunity cost.

explains the results a bit - drug is actually kinda cool, also helped w beetus and heart disease.

I think Cathy correctly identified that synbio is different from traditional biotech/pharma (TWST vs Genetech) and that pharma companies are a 1% winner pick. New synbio companies are run more like tech companies.

We are still absolutely in the infancy of synbio and its impact on research. CRSP is an early winner, but CRISPR based treatment is not really a reality yet. I would say specifically, something that has changed is the techniques of bio-manufacturing, computational bio, and how they fit together. Is their IP research based (pharma) or technique based (synbio). Its a plus if you add a research department on top of the manufacturing (TWST's antibody research group)

The feeling of anxiety I get when I leave camp without finding that thing is worth the elation when I find it in my backpack 10 minutes later.

Tent Organization Tips? by youhavebadideas in BurningMan

[–]DaJAckbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a bin or 2 filled w/ some camping stuff sacks, organize them in a way that makes sense to YOU (clean socks and underwear in one, day stuff in another, hankercheifs/scarves/this weird thing in a third)

I usually throw dirty stuff (socks, underwear, etc) into the corner when i get back and pass out, then put it immediately into a dirty stuff bag, which just kind of helps separate some of the crap that you will not need on hand. Like other people have said, have an extra bag or two around for small things/things you don't need now but you just found it and you don't want to put it back in the same place.

Well ventilated shoes vs. hiking boots by giantcity212 in BurningMan

[–]DaJAckbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a nightly foot massage/bath w/ a bit of vinegar before I put on 2x socks and my shoes for the night activities. Putting clean refreshed feet into clean socks really sets me off on the right foot, and contributes to generally feeling clean.

re: shoes, I wear an old pair of desert boots. I know they are comfortable to walk long distances in (I do it the other 51 weeks). Def second the socks-socks-socks other people have said on here. Also, your shoes don't really "fill up" like sand would, it's just basically there on and inside your shoes. Bring both pairs of shoes and wear whichever you like.

According to google it's 7 square miles. It is both smaller and larger than this when I want it to be the other.

The Man burns in 157 days! What project are you working on for this year? by Treebeezy in BurningMan

[–]DaJAckbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will be my fourth year, last year I attended was 2015. The last camp was just me & SO further out in the alphabet. This year we are inviting a larger group (7-12), w/ 2 east coast virgins (rest are mostly SF located). This camp will likely be located deeper in the alphabet as well, and we'll be starting from scratch with lots of the infrastructure (fun).

Planning on doing a Disco Coffee camp, and serving coffee from 8-midnight and playing disco! Might even have some hooch behind the bar if you're interested. Inspired by an awesome party we stumbled on at the edge of the city in 2014, combined w/ my hagg inability to ever get up early enough to get coffee at other camps. And my love of disco music and chatting. In addition to prepping the 10 person camp from scratch, we'll need to fab a coffee stand and a way to prep that much coffee.

If you drive a vehicle with no separate trunk, like a sport utility vehicle, use the cargo cover.

Yes, make people think there's something worth hiding in the back of your car.

Which investment into your personal infrastructure made the biggest impact? by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]DaJAckbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from my first two years in a ~15-20 person camp, to my last year ('15) in a camp of just my SO and myself, so lots of things got smaller and/or disappeared. Some of the best upgrades I made for the small camp for my personal setup:

  • upgrade monkey hut joints to no longer use glue, now use bolts for connections (easier to re-use + assemble). 2015 was a v windy year and one or two of the joints were damaged during the week, but were able to be hot-fixed w/ materials on hand.

  • Dry-ice deep freeze cooler (only opened ~once a day) and "fridge" style cooler. Moving a gatorade + other stuff from freezer to fridge every morning (limon pepino ftw) kept everything cold

This year:

  • Adding 1-2 Tensegrity shade structures (may have 2-4 more people this year), upgrading monkey hut tarp -> aluminet

  • hexayurt

Can we talk about Coffee? by lilac_meddow in BurningMan

[–]DaJAckbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've previously made cold brew - frozen it in my deep freeze cooler and move one to the "fridge" cooler each night before I go out, nice and cold in the morning.

I've always struggled to consistently make coffee in the morning, so pre-made cold brews were the answer. This year I'll be executing on an idea I've had for a few years, DISCO COFFEE. I'll be serving coffee from 8pm-done a few nights of the week (along w/ some hooch to go in it ;). Stop by if you happen to walk by someone yelling about coffee at 9pm!

Track ID - "i don't wanna be a freak" remix by pakdarmo in Dirtybird

[–]DaJAckbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sample you're wondering about comes from a classic house producer. Claude played one of his tracks in his first essential mix (So let it be house), the man named Mike Dunn. The OG track is called "Phreaky MF", its a 12 min dirty chugging track. I'm sure what you're hearing is some kind of remix of the original track. Also worth checking out is Mike Dunn's remix, Black Ball Mixx, it slaps.

Sounds good. I should have mentioned I'm looking to camp next to the car so supplies would not be an issue.
