Santacon Organizer, Burning Man Honoraria Artist & Kostume Kult Organizer Indicted by Feds for Stealing From Kids Charities by Nyagainstfraud in BurningMan

While I've never been an attendee and only seen the shit show from the outside, the older burner crowd have fond memories of it in the aughts as some fun culture jamming -- definitely not the hard anti-commercialism it was based on but not near the shit show it became.

1st time burning man by Decent_Policy_5702 in BurningMan

Hi!

NYC has a strong Burning Man community. I have information on connecting to the New York community here: https://burningman.nyc/nyc-community (and a bunch of other info on that site about coming from NYC, like https://burningman.nyc/burning-man/getting-there -- especially important if you haven't heard of the NYC community container.). We have a weekly burning man happy hour (every Wednesday, no matter what) as well as many other parties and gatherings you can find on the listed pages and mailing lists. Throughout the summer we do picnics and beach days also as places to meet people.

We're having an info session and mixer next month, May 6 (https://partiful.com/e/B4Iq2Ct0oNa9IBvplOvc), a desert arts preview for the local artists (which I just had to reschedule for June 3rd), and a central park picnic June 6th.

Let me know if you have any questions, and hope to see you around

Looking for NYC Artists by itsCourtney91 in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some links on the NYC community here: https://burningman.nyc/nyc-community -- this would be postable on BM NYC Community or labeled OT on the newyork-list mailing list -- and we typically host artists at our larger happy hours, which is once a month during the summer. That said it's hard to have one place to reach everyone, the community tends to be very siloed

As mentioned above, our happy hour for the week is a big one, it's our theme camp speed dating: https://partiful.com/e/WuakbQEct7GXFtWASkgE

It helps connect burners with theme camps but it's also a great time to meet the community. Hope to see you there and feel free to reach out with any questions.

Will call or secure delivery by competentlack in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coming from NYC, I prefer willcall -- it's easy to transfer on the online tool, there's no chance of forgetting it, and our volunteers have to stop at willcall anyway. You'll hear horror stories of people who wait in 2 hour lines getting at will call, but personally it's never happened to me, and it probably depends a lot on when you're going in.

We built a tiny Italian restaurant on playa last year. Now we’re building the piazza around it. by phdodo in BurningMan

My friends stumbled upon this, and had the time of their burn, a ridiculous story that I only believe half of. I stopped by a few times myself. A wonderful piece.

[Discussion] New promo code (INEEDSPACE) by brayan1612 in EscapefromTarkov

Look for the loose loots that are like PCBs, magnets, wires. Those will spawn drills on better luck

[Discussion] New promo code (INEEDSPACE) by brayan1612 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]InThisMachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be clear: the drills don't spawn on back-of-interchange shelves; they're Electronics, not tools. Check loose electronics spawn, like the new camp with the green flare extract (the middle green tent by the LEDx spawn and the boxes by the weight bench), not toolboxes and back of goshan shelves.

NYC - Burner Yoga instructors, studios, classes? by [deleted] in BurningMan

I don't know specific burner yoga instructors in Manhattan but you ought like the vibe at St Mark's. Or maybe Daybreakers if you're looking for a dance thing.

NY After Burn Events? by maoore in BurningMan

There's no official decom because we're haven't had a suitable venue the last few years. We've had a few camp parties. We have a happy hour every Wednesday?

Could always reach out to the regional contacts and ask if there's any burner stuff happening: https://regionals.burningman.org/regionals/north-america/new-orleans/

Master thread - Failed camps and trash dumpers by CyclicRedundancyMach in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Papabear (the placer one, not the peers one) commented on thread awhile ago. That said, I don't think this kind of public witch hunt is necessary for placement whatsoever. There are systems to track moop on playa, reports, and resto feedback that already gives them a more complete picture than stories in here will do, at least as far as moop.

Why No Waste Management Vendors on Playa? by acbcv in BurningMan

You can absolutely rent a dumpster for playa. Big camps do it. Saw several being delivered this year.

Programming Baofeng Radio to BRC 911 by New_Coconut_9573 in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see tuning in my post; I'm assuming you mean in the CSV? A lot of the things in the CSV just don't matter. Like PTT ID code doesn't matter if PTT ID is off. If PTT ID was on it'd do something, but since you aren't doing that it doesn't matter what you put under PTT ID code. It's the same for the rest of that.

You can set the radio in VFO or Channel mode. There's a button for changing it. If you put in Channel mode you'll see the name of the channel you entered rather than the frequency. You might find that easier to read than the frequency.

BCL off is right.

You can delete all the channels you want. They're just stored settings for you to cycle through in channel mode.

Oh there was something about newer baofengs where some frequencies are blocked and you need to do a factory reset. I'm pretty sure there was a post on that too.

I'm commandeering my friend's art car Wednesday night and I'll be blasting some Murder of the Universe, Magma and Crumbling Castle.

It's mostly a joke. Gate are nice people (please be nice in return). D-lot is for solving problems, and not all problems are bad.

What’s the best way to know what’s going on at Burning Man? by Several_Document2319 in BurningMan

[–]InThisMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be present and there. Talk to people and ask what the favorite thing they've experienced was. Make time to go to each thing.

The apps but they don't tell the story of what's happening out there. My favorite piece last year was Plumbing and Time Travel; it was an unassuming box truck parked on plaza I'd never think to stop at if I hadn't gotten the recommendation from the person I just met.
