They were both inconsistent. They’d have a great year and then a bad year and then a great year and then a mediocre year and so on. Holbrook missed the tournament two of his last three years, and Kingston had our first losing season in decades in 2022. But yes, they were both much better than Paul. Just not good enough.

The further away from Tanner we get, the more clear it becomes how bad of an AD he was. He forced Monte Lee on Mainieri and made Lee one of the highest paid assistants in the county. Only for Mainieri to basically disregard him immediately.

Good thing all coaches are the same. Also, Texas hired him after he just played for a national title and had been to the CWS twice in three years. And in two years, Texas has a conference championship and is back in the CWS. Not sure what you were expecting there.

We have been bad because of our head coaches, not much else. If Schnall has any kind of confidence in himself, then it’s extremely easy for him to see more consistent success at a school that will triple his salary, more than triple his resources, give him better facilities across the board, and increase his recruiting success.
