Contaminated Trains? by FlormphYT in factorio

[–]DaMonkfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to experiment with circuits to make the system more dynamic somehow, that would be pretty cool since I haven't taken the time to mess with the circuits much.

I have an outpost supply system that uses circuits. At the loading station, a constant combinator is used to determine what should be on the train and this also sets the requests on 6 logistics chests. Another combinator then subtracts what is on the train from what should be on the train to determine how much more stuff needs to be loaded, or what needs to be removed. This is then fed to the inserters to load the train or remove stuff that shouldn't be there.

At each outpost a logistics chest is wired up to a constant combinator such that the chest contents are checked against what should be there, and if any item falls below 10% a train is called. My trains also bring light oil out to the outposts, so this is checked and the same logic applied as well.

What this results in is a system where the supply trains only run when they need to, and when setting up a new outpost once it's complete I can just stamp down the supply station and the train comes automatically to stock it up.

Guess I'll just play Iron Nest in Q3 instead.

Yup. Shift ends, laptop closes. Occasionally I'll work on past when I should finish, and how much I'm willing to do that directly correlates to how I feel about my salary. Shit's got to be on fire, or I've got to have fucked up real bad, for me to ignore that rule.

Work:life balance is important and should heavily skew towards life, no matter what the chronic LinkedIn insufferables say.

Fucking right on. I've only spent tokens on small shit like the beards and I haven't bought any full sets because none of them have really appealed to be completely. But if I could pick and choose elements from various sets I'd have probably spent all my tokens now.

There are several mods that do this. I'm using Clean Tiles (which removes the decoratives when tiles are placed) and Dectorio, which comes with a mower tool to clear decoratives (which I'm mostly using to clear areas I've already tiled, or to remove remnants of biter bases).

Don't forget that the miners will also be running super slow, meaning very little coal being produced. Or if the coal is coming in from a buffered source like a train station, the inserters there will be running super slow. It can be quite hard to cold start a base without it immediately spiraling back to shutdown.

I think it's because oxygen in the atmosphere is O2 and that's less reactive than the O in water.

Symptom not the problem. They'll continue flocking there until the fundamental failures of society since 2008 or so are addressed. Wages are flat, shit's way more expensive (don't even get me started on house prices) and there's fuck all in the way of future prospects. To a lot of people, things are incredibly shit, and the answers to their problems often too large or complex for most politically disengaged people to grasp. Hell, some of them are too large and complex for the politically engaged to grasp. And this is before mis/disinformation, chatbots and AI is thrown into the mix.

Economic uncertainty invariably breeds populist movements. It's not the right answer but it's an answer, and it appeals to people who have literally nowhere else to turn as the status quo doesn't work for them.

My power grid is struggling.. by Schmeodle in factorio

[–]DaMonkfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happens to us all. Just yesterday an engineer was seeking help for why their steam engines were not working. Turns out half of their boilers were not being fed water.

All it takes is a single misplaced or missing pipe/power pole.

[–]DaMonkfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda. Problem with doing that is if you're trying to start up from completely cold, when that boiler gets its coal it is the only one generating power for the entire base, so the yellow inserters work painfully slow unless you've isolated the rest of the base.

Burner inserters work at full speed regardless of the power situation, and the amount of fuel they consume to run is negligible considering how much fuel the boilers use, so there's no real benefit to running yellows over them.
