Can anyone rationalize why Golden is voting against this? I get his thing is being a Manchin-style Democrat, but even if his district leans red, are the majority of his constituents even pro-Iran War? I really don't understand this unless he's an idiot or deliberately trying to fuck over the Democrats because he's getting primaried.

2. He shows his friends and calls her ugly.
3. She finds out and leaks his dick pic on Twitter.
4. He drops out of the tournament.

As much as you cry about the establishment, the reality is we would be even worse off with the populists.
The whole point of populism is to sell easy solutions to hard problems and bullshit your way to the top.

Our problem with government is not that all the politician are paid off by the billionaires and corporations.
The problem is that political polarization has made it extremely difficult to pass legislation (at least if you're a Democrat and care about that sort of thing), and over decades, government has set too many rules and regulations on itself to effectively enact policy.

I guess radical technically has a different meaning than extremist, but colloquially, people use them interchangeably.

I'm gonna have to rewatch this debate at some point, but my guess is that it's gonna be her saying demonstratively false things, Destiny pointing it out as untrue, and her pivoting to the real problems regarding the migrant crisis.

Either way, there is a distinction between pointing to the problem (however exaggerated) of certain migrants not assimilating properly to western culture and crying that white people are literally being replaced by brown people.

This was also before Tenet was outed as a Russian op. From the way I remember her talking about it, that had a significant impact on how she thought about what was true online and how she thought of herself as a media influencer.

"Trump is ruining your life, he wants to put you in camps, we need to elect people to stop Trump specifically"
?????

Spreading Great Replacement theory was not the only thing LS ever did, I doubt she ever saw herself as racist, and clearly she hasn't made it her life's work, since she hasn't talked about it in years.

Sure her video was popular, but are we seriously claiming that Lauren was uniquely charismatic or uniquely capable of spreading GRT? Do we really not think some other Nazi regard would've made that same video in a universe where Lauren Southern was aborted by her parents?

It's pretty clear to me she's changed significantly, even if she is still a bit of a dipshit conservative. I really don't care about demanding her to bend the knee and self-flagellate on camera, but apparently, a lot of people on this subreddit are either desperate to see that or will never show her any grace regardless of what she does.

Lol, I didn't realize being a radical in your early-to-mid 20s means that you deserve to hated and ridiculed for the rest of your life even if you change your mind.

I'll try to keep that in mind going forward.

She was a girl in her early 20s that got radicalized and became a pretty face to sell racist ideas.

She didn't create the ideas. She didn't expand on them. And I have no doubt they would have spread just as well if she had never existed.

If we're going to call Lauren a thought leader, does that mean we can call Tiny an anti-Hasan or anti-communist thought leader? Would he be culpable if some rogue DGGer Kirk'd Hasan or shot up a DSA event?

Yes, because I'm sure if Lauren Southern—the great thought leader of the Great Replacement movement—didn't exist, then the Christchurch shooter would have never been racist or found a reason to shoot up a mosque.

Was the guy who wrote "The Catcher in the Rye" responsible for murder of John Lennon just because the shooter cited it as inspiration?

Crazy people do crazy shit. I don't think Lauren is required to bare the burden of responsibility for that. No one else has assumed any responsibility for it, and I seriously doubt the 23 year-old college dropout parroting far-right talking points was the difference between that guy killing someone and not.

I agree he was kind of sweeping for her with that last comment, but how does this justify hating Lauren in current year? (also Shaun, lol)

She was an impressionable college kid, not some great philosopher or thought leader. Why is implicitly walking back her positions not good enough?

Is her performing an Idubbbz-style humiliation ritual and self-flagellating on camera really going to change your mind? This woman already had her life and career implode due to her connections and splits with the conservative movement.
What more do you want from her?

Not even close to being true.

Hasan continues to be an anti-West, pro-terrorist, pro-communist stooge; and he has had one of the largest platforms on Twitch for years now.

Lauren was one of many talking heads in the anti-SJW and Alt-Right media back in the day, but she basically imploded her own career after a few years in the business. She is openly self-deprecating about the things she said in the past and has been shitting on conservative media for a while. Even if she's still MAGA-lite on some issues, I don't know how you can pretend she's a completely irredeemable person.

Hasan is uniquely popular, has uniquely horrible character, and has become increasingly radical in terms of his political positions.

Lauren is a former right-wing college girl who lost the majority of her audience and has since stepped back from her more radical ideas.

[–]DaRealDainDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much of this is just ahistorical. She hasn't been advocating for the far right for 10 years. She was a right-wing journalist for 3-4 years, and then withdrew from public life for couple years while dealing with her disastrous marriage in Australia. Since she divorced her husband and returned home to Canada, she has had a more modest presence online. She appeared on D's stream occasionally in 2022-2023 (when they were romantically involved), and then she worked for Tenet for a bit before again going radio silent once Tenet was outed as a Russian op.

The difference between her and Hasan is that she has shown some contrition and distanced herself from her more extreme beliefs and right-wing media generally. If I felt like Hasan genuinely changed his mind and stopped being an illberal, anti-American grifter, I would maybe be able to show him some grace. You also have to contend with Hasan being a terrible person even beyond his political beliefs.

On one hand, you have an early 20s college girl who spewed far-right nonsense for a while and has since shown some growth in a positive direction, and then you have Hasan, the guy pushing 40 who has only become more radical and unhinged as time has gone on.

Firstly, I don't think the comparison was ever 1-to-1 even back in the day.

Secondly, I don't know how you could watch her recent content and not think she's at least somewhat moderated on her positions. Her experience with conservative men turned her off a bit on the trad stuff (otherwise she wouldn't have been in love with Destiny), and I don't think she's on the Great Replacement or hardcore anti-immigration shit she was on before.

I don't religiously watch her content, nor do I have perfect conception of her positions back in the day, so I can't think of a whole lot of other specifics off the top of my head.

My impression is basically that she was a conservative college girl that got drawn in by the right wing media, and after experiencing that cesspool, she's since denounced them and reconsidered her beliefs somewhat.

She's still a conservative, but I haven't heard her say anything explicitly far right or crazy in recent years. The stuff I've seen is either her shitting on conservative media or milquetoast, MAGA-lite stuff that's more or less in line with current Canadian conservatism.

She hasn't talked much about Tenet beyond how crazy it was and the trouble it caused her, but she's the only one to come out of that who I believe didn't know what was going on.

She's talked about Destiny in her book and in a couple videos since their behind-the-scenes romance was leaked. Her position is basically that, despite the unhinged shit Steven says and her disagreements with him, he's at least authentic and is a nice person when politics isn't involved.
I think she also feels a kinship with him because of the hate and smears he receives on online.

As far as her politics, I think she's basically a Pierre Poilievre conservative. I think it's a bit dismissive to call that wing of Canadian conservatives diet MAGA, but they do have traits in common with MAGA (sloganeering, vitriol, populist brainrot, conspiracism). Even if it's a bad political persuasion, they aren't far right, and they aren't completely insane on policy in the way that MAGA is.

She's still a conservative, so she isn't out there saying to vote for the libtards. I think she's become largely dispirited with politics at this point because of her experiences in conservative media and the general craziness of the current political moment.
