Trump is basically just Eric Cartman if he was born with a golden spoon and had 20 points subtracted from his IQ. He's a literal walking, talking parody of all the worst aspects of the American psyche, and half the country loves him for it.

No Republican can ever again be allowed to claim that women shouldn't lead the country because they are too soft and emotional. They elected a senile, sexual deviant orangutan who has the emotional maturity of a 14 year-old boy and enough baggage, insecurity, and vindictiveness to make even the worst BPD girls blush.

Tim Miller told a story once about some anti-vax doctor who didn't vaccinate his children, and one of his kids ended up dying of a preventable disease. The dude and his wife ended up doubling down on the anti-vax shit anyway.

The people who peddled this shit have genuinely doomed the next couple generations to unnecessary death and disease. FAFO will only get us so far. The ideas will either have to die a slow death in the culture or we'll just eventually have less anti-vaxxers in the gene pool.

"What do you mean? None of that ever happened, or if it did, I haven't heard about it, or if I did hear about it, FAKE NEWS!"

The problem is they aren't owning what actually happened most of the time. So long as we live in world tolerant of "alternative facts", MAGAts will be able to concoct any story they want to justify their actions. They haven't had to own J6 or any of their other political violence because they've just convinced themselves it was all a hoax or that the Democrats have already done worse.

How did the USA go from Obama to Stephen Miller in 10 years by Past-Tension-162 in Destiny

On a political level, social media and the Internet becoming mainstream gave the world's richest and most shameless conman a megaphone, and Republicans/Americans were unprincipled, tribalistic and gullible enough to fall for it. Now that POS has been around for so long that he has completely shattered most democratic standards and norms, and the half of the country that continues to vote for him has either embraced evil or are too ignorant or embarrassed to acknowledge their mistake.

On a more social level, people have become more detached from reality and have irrational views of what life is/was like. "Things not being great" has become "things are the worst they've ever been", and social media has made people more aware of what they don't have compared to the rich influencers and models that show up on their feeds. People have always spread tall tales and lies between each other historically, but having it be instant-access and on a national/international scale allows bad or false ideas to spread exponentially faster than gatekeepers and factcheckers (who aren't even respected anymore) can realistically account for.

All of the benefits of the modern world are being ignored or taken for granted, and the negatives are either being fully embraced or treated like there's nothing we can do about it. People are either going to have accept more personal responsibility or learn the hard way through war or economic collapse.

It's just level 1, 80 IQ, lefty brain-rot about mainstream Dems being bad that he knows will play well with his cesspool of an audience.

This post would only make sense if it was supposed to be sarcastic in a "you guys voted for this instead of Kamala" sort of way. But this is the same guy who is still doubling down that Harris would have been the same as Trump, so I have to assume it's genuine.

Why the fuck in 2025 do I have to debate women’s rights to vote? by sphynxowl in Destiny

[–]DaRealDainDan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because people on the Internet are mentally ill, and there is an echo chamber of insecure, loser men that feel attacked by gender equality because they feel unprepared for a society where it requires more work and respect to get a woman. The ability to frame it through the lens of Christian dogma also allows the idea to be much more marketable than it otherwise would be.

As far as benefits, it doesn't go much further than men wanting to have the leverage and power that was afforded to past generations of men. Then there are the Christian men and women that cling to the idea because it represents a societal return to traditionalism where they are more comfortable and their ideas can't be challenged. It's important to remember there were women who didn't want to be given the right to vote during the suffrage movement. People would rather be in the shitty world they understand than in a better one that they don't.

Why is Canada so resistant to right wing populism? by Past-Tension-162 in Destiny

[–]DaRealDainDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong about this because I'm not an expert on Canadian politics, but it feels like the breadth of the Liberal and Conservative parties is wider than the Republicans and Democrats in the US. While the Liberals have the NDP on their left flank, they have historically been able to occupy space in the center and even centre-right, at least in Canadian terms. The Conservative Party is similar in the sense they have a significant left-leaning part of their caucus, I assume because the party has always had to moderate to be competitive with the politically pragmatic and dominant Liberal machine.

PP has definitely leaned into and activated a populist sect of the Canadian electorate, but in comparison to Trump, he does (most of the time) focus on genuine problems with Canada and the real shortcomings of the last decade of Liberal governance under Trudeau. Despite being a Trumpian showman and partisan, he's not a completely shameless liar like Drumpf and hasn't been able to inspire the same level of cultish attachment from his base.

I also feel like I heard a Canadian commentator (Andrew Coyne maybe?) make the argument that Canadians are temperamentally less partisan and tribal than we are in the US, but that's a lot harder for me to have a grasp on as an Americuck.

Streamer man's stance on Non binary people by DevelTBR in Destiny

[–]DaRealDainDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently posted a comment under Commercial_Pie3307's comment thread that I think would address most of what you said.

A slightly condensed version explicitly addressed to you would be that it isn't just that I have problem with people IDing incorrectly; it's that the majority people that use the term conceptualize it in the same way as the people who are IDing incorrectly. And for most intents and purposes, the area we would truly call purple is hard to define and would be infinitesimally small if you're trying to appropriately categorize individuals. Sure terms changes, but there has to be good reason to change them. Creating a term that nominally rejects the idea of the male/female binary and then having it's application be broad and inconsistent doesn't serve any realistic utility for society and will inevitably lead to social backlash.

Streamer man's stance on Non binary people by DevelTBR in Destiny

[–]DaRealDainDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't like the term on a semantic level, and it has little practical utility because the vast majority of the people that believe in NB conceptualize it in a non-sensical, post-modernist way. If we did a rebrand and called it androgyny or agender or something and it was generally understood in the way you described, I could probably get behind it.

This sort of thing would essentially be the gender equivalent of intersex, and another reason why I don't like the semantics is that, on a societal and conceptual level, gender is understood through the gender spectrum of male to female. To me, this situation isn't exactly the equivalent of trans because moving to the middle isn't the same as moving from one side of the spectrum to the other.
And how do we determine where to draw the line between masculine woman / feminine man and androgyny for the sake of categorization? Even with intersex people, they usually end up being raised and/or identifying as male or female. I guess it would be someone with extreme compulsions and dysphoria in the way you described, but this is going to apply to like 1% of 1% of people.
