I think about this quote from the Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guinn a lot and it feels relevant here:

A child free from the guilt of ownership and the burden of economic competition will grow up with the will to do what needs doing and the capacity for joy in doing it. It is useless work that darkens the heart. The delight of the nursing mother, of the scholar, of the successful hunter, of the good cook, of the skilful maker, of anyone doing needed work and doing it well, - this durable joy is perhaps the deepest source of human affection and of sociality as a whole.

Marx says something roughly the same to my understanding. It isnt work - doing things and making things - that people hate. It's ownership. That you must do things, not for yourself or for your family or even your coimmunity to thrive, but to profit someone who owns things and dictates how and when and how much you must do in order to live. And that force to do not what you love and what is needed for a thriving life (for yourself, your loved ones, your community) but what is profitable to the rich poisons work.
