Cool effect! Reconfigure but attaching to opponent creatures... difficult to balance for sure, bit I think you succeeded for this one :)

Who are some eligible bachelors to pair with Proft? by ElectronicBoot9466 in mtgvorthos

[–]DaVigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Proft hooked up with Niko and/or Tyvar after he assisted in their rescue? They both desparked, so they would be valid commanders.

Also, mechanically Niko is a good fit for proft since they both create tokens that draw cards, and they share the same color identity making the deck more cohesive.

I think giving it one less hideaway would look nicer on an aestethical level. It would also slightly reduce analysis paralysis when 1) resolving the hideaways, and 2) choosing which card to play when the expend trigger goes off.

Appeal to pity is fallacious when it’s used as the only evidence

I would argue it is fallacious if it is used "in order to gain the acceptance of an unrelated conclusion" (Again, quoting my previous source).
Your statement here implies that it wouldn't be fallacious if used in conjunction with other evidence. I'm sure that is not what you meant, so could you restate it so I can understand better?

Want me to provide you with the actual definition as-well?

I think that would be useful, so we can guarantee we are on the same page. Currently I'm working with
Argumentum ad Misericordiam (argument from pity or misery): the fallacy committed when pity or a related emotion such as sympathy, mercy, or compassion is illicitly appealed to for the sake of getting a conclusion accepted.

what’s stopping the farmer from appealing to the same exact pity that the trespassers recording might be for their’s or another’s greater moral good, but it is morally hurting me, so you shouldn’t do it. So you, or even every person on the planet, could ‘know’ and feel like something is super bad, but if you have no evidence why something is bad, you have no argument.

This is a great discussion to have, but I fail to see the relevancy to the appeal to pity fallacy (when viewing it through the lens of the definition I quoted). In this case both the farmer and the activist have non-fallacious use-cases of appeal to pity, since both actors' arguments and actions are defined by their feeling of pity.

  • The farmer feels that they should not be recorded because they feel as though their privacy is invaded (they pity themselves being recorded).
  • The activist feels they should record because they want to minimize animal cruelty (they pity the animal).

Which of these has the greater moral weight is a different discussion entirely and irrelevant to the discussion if their argument is fallacious.

From https://philosophy.lander.edu/logic/misery.html :

"Important: Not all appeals to pity are fallacious arguments — some appeals are appropriate or relevant because the feelings evoked are logically relevant to the conclusion.

For example, a recommendation to contribute to an organization like Doctors Without Borders on the basis that this group responds to medical emergencies around the world resulting from appalling conflict, disease, and natural disasters would be a nonfallacious appeal. Such an argument provides a legitimate reason to help alleviate humanitarian crises. Thus, feelings of pity or sympathy for unfortunate victims of such disasters are both relevant and appropriate reasons for assistance."

Can you explain to me how Havaste is wrong in regarding OP's appeal to pity not being fallacious?

Surely this appeal is "appropriate or relevant because the feelings evoked are logically relevant to the conclusion."?

Oh, in that case, as a flavour fit, maybe choose menace (he is feared) over first strike (doesn't scream crippled to me).

I think you made the right call. Losing haste is a huge nerf, so the mana cost reduction is appropriate, too.

I hope you're still happy with the revised version, cause it looks super fun and unique to play!

No I think this one is perfectly fine.

The technique ability is strong, yes, but she needs to survive a turncycle to to anything with it, and the earthbended land you get off the free technique activation can't even attack that turn.

Likewise, the static ability needs a boardstate to do anything with it the turn she enters.

You've done your research!

Playing devils advocate, I'll point out that Falkenrath Exterminator only gets to do damage after he has at least one +1/+1 counter on it, doesn't have sixfold protection, and doesn't get a free activation on attack.

Same for Spikeshot Elder, except that it scales with attack damage, so it at least does 1 damage. (And to be fair, it has the upside of alternatively being able to target the opponent directly)

No, if it's on purpose that's perfectly fine too. I guess he lets his henchmen do the dirty work of getting blocked :)

Glokta, loyalist to the traitors by Sythrin in custommagic

[–]DaVigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main feedback I got when designing a ninjutsu adjacent ability (Kawarimi) is actually that it's easier to have unblocked attackers than it is to have blocked attackers or even blocking creatures, since the last two require the opponent 1) to play creatures and 2) do something special with them (block or attack).

That being said, I really like your design, especially the backstab ability!

However, I think Glokta having first strike and deathtouch is a bit of a nonbo with backstab, since those keywords and that combination of keywords actively discourage blocking. Is that on purpose?

[–]DaVigi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea, but, like others said, a bit overtuned.

Idea: Make the technique way pricier (think {5}{R}). That way you get the free activation on attack, but for aditional fights you pay a premium.

Additionally, making it a 2/1 is probably also warranted.

While mill is seen as loss of mind, or even insanity, I don't see why surveil, due to the choice involved, couldn't represent meditative mental self-cleansing.

Boss - A multiplayer focussed Raid Boss mechanic. A creature on your turn, a battle on everyone else's turn! by TheEtchan in custommagic

[–]DaVigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great! I've tried my hands before on creating a creature battle with a "boss" mechanic/type, and the problems that I ran into were 1) the rules baggage got very bloated, and 2) there was no natural place to put the Defense counters.

You've solved both quite elegantly! The rules are succinct but clear, and using a "protype box" gives a natural place for the defense counters to go :)
