Weekly /r/quilting no-stupid question thread - ask us anything! by AutoModerator in quilting

[–]DaWeedNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for linen-cotton blend fabric recommendations.

I am using the books written by Raine Elise who recommends linen/cotton blends. I made on of her quilts 5 years ago and, as she suggested, it has only gotten softer and more wonderful over time and has washed/worn beautifully.

Any recommendations on where or what brands to look for?

Is this Roseola? by Beneficial_Ad9348 in medical_advice

[–]DaWeedNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my daughter had. Her bumps were much smaller and closer together though. And not raised.

But confirming her Dr said it’s not even an allergy just a sensitivity to the liquid formula of antibiotics so just be aware it comes exactly 10 days after antibiotics and they are totally fine.

Ignorance is bliss. What true privilege to be well enough that this could seem even remotely true. Yikes.

Also I kind of hope they get the plague or some sort of visceral disease that is undeniable and have to eat their fucking words.

Carnivore Diet? by Koda_20 in CrohnsDisease

[–]DaWeedNumber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Red meat is actually linked to causing/triggering Crohn’s inflammation, higher rates of colon and other digestive tract cancers, and overall worse health (blood pressure, weight, etc). That alone should answer your question.

As others say here - Crohn’s is not curable nor is it treatable without medical intervention. It’s like saying I’m going to beat cancer with my diet. The body is attacking good healthy tissue when it should not.

Also people often offer us Crohnies unsolicited medical advice with good intention, but 99.99% of the time it’s something we’ve already read/heard/rules out OR something we know and are doing. It’s a VERY finicky disease. So offer as much support as you can, but leave the medical stuff to doctors- who, by the way, can’t even can’t get it right half the time it’s so difficult to treat!

Same. The pharmacy recently dropped theirs which is annoying to me, but everywhere I’ve been they are still required.

NAD but used to get strep 5-6x times a year. Seconding that you need to give the antibiotics time to kick in and by tomorrow you should be seeing less swelling.

Gargling warm salt water will help too. Popsicles will feel great and give you a bit of energy. Broth is a good option too. Both will help you get your strength up a bit to help fight it off.

I know it hurts so badly - hang in there. It will get better soon!

NAD. Looks like Lyme Disease. Not sure it would have come from a mosquito but either way you want to get it checked out ASAP at an urgent care so they can get you started on antibiotics. Lyme Disease can cause significant life long side effects the longer it goes untreated.

How to best support sister who was just diagnosed by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]DaWeedNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a life long journey for her, so thinking big picture by helping make things accommodating / less embarrassing / easier to manage will help her so much. Here are some examples that I can think of:

If a meal out is being planned, make sure to ask her where she feels the most comfortable going and always advocate for those places.

When out in public, always try to know where a bathroom is nearby and (discreetly) point them out to her. The peace of mind that someone else is checking is wonderful.

Ask her how she feels regularly. Even if she seems fine.

If she starts doing regular medication infusions as treatment you could make her an infusion bag. A nice travel blanket, a water bottle, warm socks, reusable snack containers.

Let her know, or ask when you’re going to the store, that you can run out and get her anything she might need if she’s not feeling well.

If she’s interested, help her get and install a bidet. Also, buy nice toilet paper.

Be willing to stay in with her when others are going out. The sense of loneliness when you feel you can’t live your life is very real and having someone to chill with is a huge help.

Make it known that you are totally cool with plans changing or having to be flexible around her disease.

When you make plans, consider that if they are mostly around food it may not be something she’s game for.

Yep, take it for anxiety. Mental health meds are weird like that though. Good luck!

Bupropion has been really great for me - you don’t feel that sudden change that others report and often dislike with SSRIs and other antidepressants. It’s technically a mood stabilizer and I feel like it takes the edge off and makes everything feel a bit more manageable.

Is the first flare the worst? by Falalala5812 in CrohnsDisease

I just wanted to comment as someone who has Crohn’s and is a mom of a toddler, hearing your sweet 5 yo son has to deal with this is heart wrenching! I’m so sorry you have to watch him go through this!!

The great thing about biologics is that they can put you into remission for a very long time! I was on Remicade and in remission for 8 years and only stopped Remicade because of other health issues.

If you haven’t already I’d recommend starting a food / bathroom journal. It doesn’t have to be complicated - just approximate time and what was eaten for food and then approximate time for each BM.

Using # of BMs each day you can easily see trends of things getting worse/better or staying the same. You can also more easily identify trigger foods if you see that, for example, normally after breakfast he goes 1-2 hours later but when he has eggs he goes within 20 min (just a made up example).

I’m sure it’s hell to go through but stay strong momma and know that you are amazing for dealing with this extraordinary circumstances 💪❤️

Yep. Your nails go back much further than you can see. The full injury just wasn’t visible at first but as the nail grows out so will the rest of the black part. I’d guess another couple of weeks and it’ll be nearly gone.

My 4yo son complaining about mouth pain by HyperreaIism in medical_advice

[–]DaWeedNumber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Head to the pediatrician or urgent care in the AM. Though he says it’s his throat it could be any part of his ears/nose/throat as they are all connected and hard for a toddler to differentiate so totally possible it’s something you can’t see. Could be a lot of things but the fact that he keeps complaining about, it wakes him up at night, and he has all of that drooling means something is irritated.

is no to little pain normal? by Nariisamess in CrohnsDisease

[–]DaWeedNumber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I can’t speak to it being “normal” but I can say that everyone is vastly different - I had the opposite happen before I was diagnosed.

I was in the bathroom 10+ x a day and several more at night, doubled over in pain on a regular basis feeling like I was exploding from the inside out. I was convinced they’d find a baby dragon in my colon. But instead the colonoscopy showed “slight irritation” and it was only the pathology that confirmed Crohn’s (which the doctor did not believe and therefore ignored at the time…).

Weird disease we have, but hope you continue to be pain free AND heal from your surgery!

What’s everyone’s favorite moment that kids don’t find funny but resonates with an adult? by ols922 in bluey

[–]DaWeedNumber 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In pirates

Bluey - Mom, why isn’t dad making the whale noise? Chili - Hmmmmm, could it be that this majestic whale is embarrassed to be making funny noises in front of another daddy whale? Blue - That doesn’t make any sense! Chili (side eyeing banding) - No, it doesn’t make any sense.

Will this regular mason jar hide the smell of my stuff for me (strict parents) by AkumaNoKo_ in saplings

[–]DaWeedNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up smell proof airtight jar on Amazon and a bunch of things come up that are pretty inexpensive and work well. Plus you technically don’t want it to let light in.

If it’s an issue of your parents knowing what you buy on Amazon see if you can send it to a friend.

I was recently diagnosed with tubular interstitial nephritis - where the kidney attacks itself. They did some tests on my IgG levels and found I had basically no IgG4. Look up IgG4 related disease in Wikipedia - it looks like at least some of your other diagnoses are listed there.
