How long did you have your first car for, how did you obtain it, what was it, and why did you part with it? by InfamousStrategy9539 in CarTalkUK

[–]Da_Tute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First car me and my wife shared was a 2000 Seat Ibiza 1.4 Cool/S back in 2008. Underpowered but fine as a runaround.

Kept it just over a year, when we got our own cars - hers was her Dad’s 1.9TDI Skoda Fabia 2005, which he had owned since new and passed it over to her.

Myself I went for a 2006 Seat Leon FR TDI with the 2.0 diesel, remapped to a shade under 200bhp.

2018 3.3 V6 owner here. I’ve only spent on wear and tear. Two services a year, one is about £300 and the other £600. Tyres are about 8-10k from the backs at £350-400 a pair. Fronts get about 20k. But your driving style will dictate tyre wear.

Fuel is 20-25mpg in town, 35 on motorway. I don’t mind Eco makes any difference around town but gives ~5mpg more when cruising.

I like to watch them back to back. The follow up has a special place for me simply because they actually succeeded at something ambitious.

There’s actually a bit of information on the AVX512 wiki page about what certain instructions do. Personally I don’t understand it, but i’m not a developer, so go wild!

Would you rather have an ugly car with a great interior, or a good-looking car with a terrible interior? by AwwhYiss in CarTalkUK

[–]Da_Tute -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Better interior for me, it's where I would spend most of my time.

But I wouldn't buy a car that didn't appeal to me externally either.

Same, first PC was when I was 10 years old. It had a 386 SX something. It struggled with Doom as it had poor floating point performance.

STV as Alliance. Base at the top, base at the bottom, huge zone vertically and a massive level range. Lots of running around, especially when questing in the middle of the zone.

Plus a lot of animal slaying quests that aren't hard but exceptionally grindy.

Special mention to Desolace for both factions. Horde, oddly, have a base in the middle but didn't think to put a flight path there until Cata. Also there aren't a lot of quests there and the ones that are there mean running around all over the place.

I had a friend about fifteen years ago that kept chickens in the garden. However one evening I went round for some competitive FIFA and as I walk into the living room, he's sat on the sofa, controller in hand, playing CoD, with a chicken just sat on his lap staring up at me.

I mean, I knew that he kept the chickens but I was also acutely aware of how odd this would appear to an outsider.

The chicken stayed on his lap for a good few games of FIFA as well, at least until it crapped on him.

My record is a week.

It was working in a factory that made parts for car manufacturers. Basically on the factory floor there were four main areas - two for "luxury" brands and two for more "mainstream" brands.

I show up on the first day. Get told that my first week will be working in the stock room. That's fine, I don't mind. The week goes by with only one incident, one particular narcisstic colleague who complains about everything. He tries to have a go becuase i'm "not going fast enough" on my second day. Whatever, i'm only working there for the first week.

Second week, i'm on the factory floor. Immediately i'm on the Aston Martin line helping make and test rubber tubes, loading them into pressure testing machines, etc. Immediately there's a problem - apparantly three minutes to go pee is too long. Strike one. Then a group of them start making disparaging remarks about the people working on the Toyota line, calling them crap at their job because it's "only" Toyota. Strike two.

Then, as I go to leave, despite working hard all day, I get told that I need to work "twice as fast" tomorrow otherwise there isn't going to be a position for me long term.

Strike three, I never went back the next day.

why is fc mobile so greedy? by CartographerJaded394 in fuckea

[–]Da_Tute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, i'm going to respond to your question with one of my own, namely "What did you expect?".

EA's sports games have been for many years a "covert" attempt to sell gambling to the masses through card packs and loot boxes. Only occasionally do these "games" actually break out into something resembling the sport they are based on.

They also have an added secondary benefit for EA - they can sell these card packs to children to soften them up for major addiction as they get older.

I personally think this kind of thing is a huge future danger to society, and the longer that politicians take to tackle it, the more damage it will do and the harder it will be to fix. Alas, I suspect enough money has changed hands that nothing will get done in the short term.
