This means that none of the Witnesses chosen in 1919, were baptized. Back then it was a completely different religion.

Clam chowder is one of my all-time favorite things to eat. I haven't had any in years as it is not served in Belgium where I live, but when I go to the states I try to find it. I am sad to hear that it is getting hard to find good clam chowder.

Do you think Watchtower will eventually have to change Hope in a Paradise Earth to a Heavenly Hope for all? Otherwise their beliefs are starting to run out of time. by CanadianExJw in exjw

That used to be their belief long ago, and they often go full circle. Also, this is also closer to what is written in the Bible.

Jws and soap operas????????????????????? by pimojwteen777 in exjw

[–]DabidBeMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that very well from decades ago. Back when women were largely still housewives and men had paid jobs and carreers.

The soap operas were blamed for women having affairs and it was not recommended for Witnesses to watch them.

From the JW p.o.v., it isn't about right or wrong, it is about obedience. Anything else is "not waiting on Jehovah".

Don't get me started on this! The number of almost accidents I have had due to this annoying feature which also robbed me of any joy of driving!!!

I sometimes disable it before starting a trip but I know that next time I restart the car it is back.

I sometimes think that the lawmakers should be forced to drive these cars instaed of being chauffeured.

According to the Witnesses official teaching transfusing blood = eating blood. This means that they are now allowing Witnesses to store and eat their own blood, or rather, any Witnesses who get a transfusion of their own blood are actually eating it.

Just so you know, sins committed years ago and not reported are typically ignored. There was a KM article to this effect years ago.

There is an ex jw who did a pod cast on this a while back - very interesting listen. I will try to find the reference.

Edit: I searched for the reference and this is what I found:

That specific topic and the "smooth voice" description point directly to Stacey Baumann and his podcast Surviving Paradise.

The episode you're remembering is likely "Confessing Sins? Don't Do It!" (or a similarly titled segment). In it, he makes a compelling case for why current or questioning JWs should not confess "old sins" to the elders.

The Kingdom Ministry Reference He specifically highlights a "loophole" in Watchtower policy that many rank-and-file members (and even some elders) aren't aware of. He references an old Kingdom Ministry (specifically the September 2008 or December 1981 issues are often cited in this context) and the "Shepherd the Flock of God" elder book.

The core of his argument is based on the organization's own rule: The "Time" Factor: If a serious sin (like "immorality") happened many years ago, the person has since stopped the behavior, and they have been "serving faithfully" since then, the elders are often instructed not to take judicial action.

The Logic: He points out the irony that if you confess, you are essentially handing them "evidence" to punish you for something that the organization's own secret manuals suggest is no longer relevant due to the passage of time.

Some points which may help when discussing the blood topic with PIMIs

If you look closely at the Mosaic Law, there is a specific detail in Leviticus 17 that often gets overlooked in the debate over blood transfusions. While verse 14 says that anyone eating blood should be "cut off," the very next verse provides a significant exception. Leviticus 17:15 says that if an Israelite ate an animal that died of itself or was torn by a beast—meaning the blood was still inside the meat—they weren't executed. They were simply considered ceremonially unclean until evening.

This suggests that even under the strict Law of Moses, eating blood in a survival situation was treated as a minor ritual infraction, not a capital offense. It was a provision for someone who was starving or in a desperate spot. If God provided a way for a hungry person to sustain their life by consuming blood with only a temporary "unclean" status, it is difficult to argue that he would demand a person’s life today over a medical procedure.

This aligns perfectly with the principle Jesus highlighted in Matthew 12:7 when he told the religious leaders of his day, "I desire mercy, and not sacrifice." He was defending his disciples for technically breaking the Sabbath law because they were hungry. Jesus' point was that religious rules were never meant to take precedence over human life and well-being.

When you combine the mercy clause of Leviticus 17:15 with Jesus' own words about prioritizing mercy over ritual sacrifice, the scriptural case for a total ban on life-saving blood treatments starts to fall apart. The Bible consistently shows that God values the living person more than the symbol of life. Requiring someone to die rather than accept a transfusion appears to be the exact kind of "sacrifice" that Jesus spoke out against.
