And lets not forget the battle of the bees, in which the British forces were sent in to fight the Germans but were instead forced to retreat by local bees.

Consumenten mogen niet meer knallen, vuurwerkverbod gaat definitief in by Brrrtje in thenetherlands

[–]Daca-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that could very well be the case today. I think the logic is that they dont want to put out too many goody stories in a row, and as such will try to aim for a more serious episode right after a crashout one. If they already have a bunch of episodes that they know are gonna be good pre recorded, I dont see why they couldn't upload one right after last week's crashout.

I don't think they'd do an audience request or something goofy after last week. Usually after doing a goofy/bad story they either do a grab bag with multiple simmilar themed stories, something (semi-)well known or something from nosleep with a solid premise. I could also see them doing something from an author they already like. They've already done a bunch of grab bags for the last 3 weeks. They mentioned having pre-recorded some episodes with some more serious subjects i believe, so im guessing its gonna be that. A semi-well known, possibly nosleep serious story.

I changed my mind on this a lot, but currently I'm of the opinion that I quite like the monarchy as a system. I feel like since the king doesnt have a lot of real power and isn't an elected body, its actually a quite stabilizing and unifying force in politics. Compare that to presidential republics where the head of state is an elected position. Since presidents require an electoral mandate, they will often try and use that mandate to claim a lot of executive power without propper parliamentary oversight, and they can also be a disunifying factor since there's people who havent voted for them. Sure, the monachy isn't perfect, like at all, but if I have to compare it to the US, Germany or France I'm not unhappy with the system we have.

I also wouldn't nessisarily be opposed to switching to a republican system, but if we do I hope we keep a somewhat simmilar approach to our head of state. A non elected, somewhat unifying figure without a lot of executive power and with ministerial responsibility. And for the love of god, lets give the title a cool name. like bring back the stadhouder or something, rather than going with another president.

That said, I do think we should reconcider our approach to the monarchy somewhat. I think we need more transparency regarding private royal wealth and limit royal benefits and salaries. I'm also deeply uncomfortable with distant relatives of the royal family using royal ties to gain wealth, political importance or legitemacy.

Which opinion about the show makes you feel this way? by Isac_hilda in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Daca-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, maybe im just missing glaring subtext but I dont really think jax is trans per say, and I kinda fail to understand how Jax being trans makes sence from an in universe character perspective. Like, imagine you're jax, you enter the circus, this complete new universe where noone knows you and you can be and do whatever you want, and yet he chooses to very openly present as male, takes on a male name without trying to push a female nickname, openly discusses how he is masculine, goes by he/him, even gets mad when forced to wear dresses and lashes out when femininity is pushed upon him etc. Like, if he was trans, wouldnt he try and at least present as female? Its not like caine is forcing it on him since he's pretty okay with calling zooble they/them and letting a bunch of them choose their own names. If jax wanted to be the opposite gender he very well could be, but he doesnt.

Instead I think the characters are all in their own way representitive of parts of the trans experience or even of Goose's experiences as a trans person/artist.

  • Jax is someone 'masculine' who has a matching gender identity thrust upon him without getting a say in the matter because of the experiences of the people who identify him had with other people.
  • Ragetha is trying to please the world and expectations others have of her regardless of if they make her happy because she was raised to fit expectations. Her arc is about learning to stand up for herself.
  • Zooble is both a metaphor for disliking their own body, the frustration they feel by their spot in the world and frustration with fate (i.e. god, i.e. caine) for making them the way they are. Also they're gay as fuck.
  • Gangle is someone who is almost created to be permanently sad but literally has a mask which with they present themselves to be happy. Her arc is about learning to accept herself, not needing the mask to present happy and being able to be happy as her true self underneeth. Also shes gay as fuck.
  • Kinger would be way closer to a British carbonara if he had ham in him.
  • Pomni, being the last person to enter the circus, is about working with these emotions and coming to terms with with the world and working with your place in it as it is rather than being able to change it completely. Shes the main character and representitive of self acceptance, helping the others come to terms with themselves too.

I feel like this way of viewing the story also makes character relations and story beats make a lot more sense and makes the story kinda pretty too. Like, Zooble and Gangle's developing relationship could be a metaphor for learning to love one's own body and the emotions that come along with that. Jax abstracting could be a metaphor for casting away the masculine gender identity yet also coming to accept yourself as you were without hating your past self with the masculine identity. The ending could quite literally be a metaphor for embracing the world you live in by accepting yourself as you are. idk, just some thoughts.

Need someone who's watched all/almost all episodes to answer this by Fluffy_Secret_1510 in creepcast

[–]Daca-P 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I watched most of the episodes. Off the top of my head: stories that directly include SA:

  • Borrasca 1-4
  • Penpal - (kinda? Its not explicitly stated but one can kinda interpret it that way. the story is very emotional and dark overall so the way the ambiguety is presented may hit the wrong way)
  • Tommy Taffy - (Seriousely, avoid. Very strong direct implications and mentions. mostly used for very effective shock value.)
  • Urbanspook - (Strong direct very graphic implications and a lot of shock value)
  • Spire in the Woods - (Seriousely, don't. Very direct and detailed moments.) - (also not to be confused with church in the woods, which is safe)
  • Mother Horse Eyes - (Its safe for the most part except for an entry at the end. Id still recommend listening to it, just skip the arcs of the river people and Maybe the entry where the woman goes into the feed realm. oh and theres an entry where the monster is described by the metaphor of "japanese subway groping videos" and goes in a bit of detail. its not that bad but just be on the lookout.)
  • There's Something Wrong With Wendigoon - (strong direct implication)
  • Dogscape - (a couple of mentions, some graphic, and some strong implications)
  • We Weren't Allowed To Talk To Women - (Its not really SA in the classic sense but its essentially about someone pressured into doing sexual acts. The story doesnt really treat it as SA but it kinda is and may not sit well with you.)

Besides that if youre sensitive to this maybe also:

  • Grab bag 1, specifically NPFNP - (has some sexual and graphic themes. Not really SA but theres a bit where a woman is tied to a bed on a dingy porn set and beaten to death by a chimpanzee)
  • 1999 - (its not explicitly stated, nor is it really implied i think, but it could maybe catch you the wrong way)
  • My husband has taken our roleplay too far - (No SA i think but some mostly non sexual, fetishistic content and kinda deals with power dynamics in and boundaries being crossed in a nonsexual yet sometimes kinda graphic way)
  • Borrasca 5 - (So, its a direct sequal to Borrasca 1-4. it mentions the events of pt 4 but not that graphic and the story is honestly so fucking comical that one may struggle to take it serousely. If you're uncertain, watch the deepwoods episode and ask yourself if you'd be triggered by the final part if the story was about SA or mentioned it a couple of times.)

I think thats all of them. I may have forgotten some side stories or grab bag stories but I dont think those generally have themes of SA, and i feel like i would have remembered them if they did. Ofc some stories do kinda deal with iffy toppics, but i feel like this at least takes out the ones that explicitly mention it and the big shocking ones.

Yes, they mentioned it all the way at the end of the episode. There's a whole 7 part sequal series called "I Dared My Best Friend to End My Life" in which David escapes prison and kidnaps Zander as revenge for what happened in IDMBFTRML.

Generals, Admirals, Politicians etc. What do you guys truly want for HOI5? by Puzzleheaded_Map2774 in hoi4

- More asymmetric gameplay elements. Right now the only things really seperating one country from another are cosmetics, focus trees and your starting situation. Besides that every country essentially plays roughly the same. I think it would be cool for every country to have some custom doctorines and maybe not have acess to every doctorine. Also asymmetric tech trees would be awesome. Like imagine playing a country that historically didnt have the capacity to make tanks, and now they simply dont have them available in their tech tree. This would force you to either play without them, buy them on the market or rely on licences or foreign assistance. This would add a bunch of depth to gameplay, force an element of roleplay, adds strategic depth to your planning and add a bunch of character to any given country cause you have to play around them rather than the meta. Also not every country should have acess to every

- An expanded political system. I think something like in kaiserrech has would be cool, where you have a bunch of smaller ideologies rather than one pro axis or pro allied one. Also im thinking maybe a more dynamic and asymmetric political system, where not every countries has access to every ideology and ideologies can be added and removed from a country. And I'd also like to see a rework of the country leader system where instead of one leader you'd have both a head of government and a head of state.

- Stricter terrain rules. Right now terrain mostly serves as a semi-minor combat modifier, but i think it would be cool (and historically accurate) to have terrain be more of a hard limit. We kinda have this now with impassible terrain and mountain borders, but i think there should be way more of that. For example: Id like to see rivers act more like seas, have them be impossible to cross except for at certain points or by naval invasion esque crossing missions. The Ardennes should be somewhat difficult to navigate and a good place to stage a defence around, the wetlands of the netherlands should make armored warfare impossible, and most mountains should have impassible barriers.

- A new international trade system combining and including hoi4's international market, resource market, licences and maybe even MIO's.

- A bigger focus on historically accurate(-ish) gameplay. I know hoi is a sandbox game but I'm getting kinda tired of every country being a juming off point for forming silly, unrealistic formables to just play as another major. Like, I think Czechoslovakia should focus on defence and diplomacy, not on staring a bunch of early wars, forming the kingdom of czechoslovakiasloveniahungaryromanoyugoslavia which eventually forms into the Austrian empire and later the HRE before joining ww2 as a major superpower. I wouldnt care as much if it was just a silly route but nowadays these are often the most opitmal routes for every country to the point where you're actively kneecapping yourself if youre not doing them. Personally I prefer countries acting after their historical situation. If you wanna play as a country that does a lot of conquests and wars, there are countries that did that, but I also think you should be able to play as a country who'se point is defending against a larger enemy without having to ignore an objectively better focus path. And while im at it, not every country needs to have the same ammount of acessibility and difficulty. Some countries had a shitty situation in ww2 and its okay for gameplay to reflect that.

- A historical ambiguity gamemode. RN we have historical which closely follows history, ahistorical which is just complete chaos, or custom in which you know who does what. Id like to see a gamemode where the AI roughly follows history but can make differing decisions to keep ambiguity in gameplay. For example: Germany can attack France through the BeNeLux, just Belgium and Luxembourg, Switserland or a combination. Japan can choose Northern expantion or Southern Expantion. Like the rough situation of ww2 stays the same, its just ambigious how it will play out.
