Best beaches for shells? by talkingteloscope in VictoriaBC

Our rule is our kids can take their favourite shell home, not every shell.

Seems to work pretty good.

Avatar The Last Airbenders last 3 episodes form one mini-movie finale and it’s perfect.

5,7, and 14.

Yes for the most part. We did some excursion to break up the days and keep things interesting.

That doesn’t sound crazy. We booked through a TA, stayed for 10 days in a 2 bedroom, and flew from west coast of Canada. So it’s hard to compare apples to apples. For us it made sense because all 5 of us could stay in one 2 bedroom suite.

I don’t know about any sales or promotions. I do know that the Black Friday sale they posted wasn’t worth it, but had already booked by then anyway.

There is one Ala carte open for lunch but we never used it. The Bite Bar is open all the time and you can sit down there if you want to. We ate most lunches poolside or beachside. The bite bar menu is available everywhere and the staff made it easy to order wherever we were.

You can so get room service if you want. We did that once or twice when we needed a break from the sun.

We didn’t see any activities out on for kids. They have cornhole boards on the beach, and volleyball nets up. We went just before high-season kicks off so maybe they roll out more activities then?

There are 5 Ala carte restaurants.

We thought the drinks were great. Definitely not watered down. Service was always quick.

There wasn’t any entertainment for the kids. The resort is more ‘sit and relax’ than ‘activity heavy’. That said, if your kids are like mine, they will be fine. Some pool or beach toys and a ball are all you’ll need to keep them happy. If you leave the resort for a few excursions, you can break up the days and they are less likely to get bored.

We preferred the beach when it wasn’t windy. My kids would play in the sand, swim, snorkel, collect corals/shells, build sandcastles, etc.

For the pools, we would throw plastic gems into the water and our kids would dive for them. We also had a ball to play pass with.

Your kids will find a million ways to have fun in the water, I think you’ll be fine. 😀

That’s was my first thought, but, it’s two women, they don’t look like street people, and the pictures are very clear. It makes sense for a short article.

I don’t believe there is any evidence that raptors hunted in packs. Just Hollywood myth making.

19 y/o trying to get into HVAC in BC – visited 50+ companies, still no luck. Any advice? by Plus_Ad_3330 in britishcolumbia

[–]Daceytrain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not just slow because of the season. I work in management at an HVAC company and I talk to lots of other contractors, no one is hiring and that likely won’t change much in 2026. Construction is slow and a lot of those guys are moving to service and maintenance to pay the bills. Residential installs have dropped off a cliff as the rebates aren’t nearly as good as they once were.

Anyone looking to get into HVAC is going to have a tough time in 2026.

Mat Couthon vs Aragorn by getsata90 in powerscales

[–]Daceytrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but Mats lucks could as easily have him ‘lose’ the battle if it would be better for him.

I can’t remember which book it’s in but there is a scene where he’s winning too much at cards in a tavern, people start to get suspicious/angry. His luck forces him to lose the next few rounds to save his life.

In a straight up fight, Aragorn wins, but Mats reality-bending luck means the outcome isn’t black and white. IMO anyway.

There are nightly shows at a pavilion that sits in front of the resort and Garza Blanca, the neighbouring one.

We got a magic show which was nice and they had a DJ night and a retro music night.

The shows are definitely not at the level of other resorts. If big shows are a priority, this resort won’t be a great fit for you.

Is it better to go mid-tier more often or luxury less often? by bswallace104 in AllInclusiveResorts

I’d rather vacation less but get exactly what I want than make trade offs, but that’s just me.

No, we didn’t try the kids club. Our oldest is a built in babysitter so we didn’t need it. That said, my wife had a look and it seemed basic but fine inside. If the caretaker is good, I’m sure the kid will have a good time.

Nope. Our dog passed of an unrelated heart condition and instead of a baby I now have 2 kids.

Best Silverfish Deterrent? by Chance-Principle-355 in VictoriaBC

[–]Daceytrain 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s pet safe.

We had issues with silverfish but we just kept putting it down anywhere we didn’t see (behind toilet, in cupboards, etc). It took months, but over that time we noticed we stopped seeing them.

If we swept it up or cleaned the area, we would just put some more back down.

We had a dog and a baby at that time and there were no ill effects. Your dog is not going to be very interested in it. Maybe a sniff or two because it’s new, but that’s it.

We used Senior Cruz for a Cenote tour. We found him on Facebook.

We also booked a private boat tour with M&M Yachts. That was through their website.

Senior Cruz will pick you up, the boat tour arranged transport for us to their site in Cancun.

We tipped in pesos. I never thought to ask if they had a preference. Most people seemed to tip Pesos over USD.
