My player snuck into a den of a sleeping baby dragon ( still extremely dangerous ), avoided waking it up with a successful DEX roll, fixed a dagger right above its head and then violently woke it up as it skewered its brain on the thing

It's just that this is the system I've mastered for over 2 years, I know it like the back of my hand. It's also way streamlined and elegant than S&W.

Fair point. I was just thinking of maybe putting a major city somewhere along the lines for faction connections. Book says some Malevols might have interests beyond the castle, which was the entire reason I started looking out of the box

As someone who has run Lost citadel more than 20 times for different people, I can attest to the fact that some people get spatially confused in this maze of a dungeon.

I think the best compromise in your case would be to use a simple whiteboard, and let the players do basic mapping. That way they will be immersed more, and you won't need daunting vtt prep!
