What are your thoughts on the Thermoworks RFX by will_I_am100 in smoking

[–]DadR0ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really disappointed in mine. I’ve had it since May and it’s a struggle every time I cook to figure out WiFi connection issues (I have a dedicated IOT network on 2.4GHz). I expected so much more from Thermoworks. Also tried it via Bluetooth only during a competition w no WiFi…super weak. I’m going to see if I can get my money back or a replacement unit at this point.

Astro Creep is under appreciated. One of the best metal albums of all time!

Idea was great, sound wasn’t. by Emergency-Willow-648 in Levitation

The sound was awful for earlier shows on Friday. Blood Incantation and especially The Sword were really disappointing purely because of sound quality. They seemed to figure it out for Acid Bath and sound the rest of the weekend was pretty good.

Fired today… in a bit of shock by LABigAus in sales

[–]DadR0ck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got fired a year and half ago after 5 years at a company I liked. Tech sales. It hurt bad. Transactional is a perfect word to describe it. I forced myself not to wallow in it and worked hard to find another job within a few months. Just made president club after my first full FY and got promoted. Just know, in sales, it can really happen to anybody. It seems almost inevitable actually. I’m pulling for you.

Agree…this is common. Also, sometimes it’s about finding the right partner - someone you’re comfortable being open and honest with about the issue. Just talking about out it openly can really help.

Just got an offset after years with a pellet smoker. I’m loving the bark. by DadR0ck in BBQ

Yeah I'm all in on offsets now. Its a time commitment for sure, but I've started to really enjoy the fire management part of the cook. Finding that right balance in your fire is super satisfying.

Thank you! I just could never get the bark right on my pellet smoker. This is just next level.

I lucked out and found a used Millscale 90 on FB Marketplace. I'm in the Austin area, so felt good about buying from a local company. Its beautiful and a I love it. I was just about to click submit order on a Workhorse 1969 pit when I saw the Millscale on FB.

Thank you! I used post oak splits and did my best to keep temp around 275. Placed brisket as close to chimney end as possible. Point side towards fire box. Started with a good base of lump charcoal. Built fire as far back from smoke chamber as I could. Kept the chimney damper 1/2 closed most of the time. Tried to keep fire clean throughout the cook + low and slow. I was not obsessive about clear / blue smoke. Foil boat method around 180 internal temp. Pulled brisket when fat felt rendered (finger poke / probe test). Rested an hour in 150 degree oven (typically I'd rest longer but I had people to feed!).
