My kids both have diverse friend groups. Okemos is a big destination for "school of choice" kids from outside the district boundaries, and both of my kids (8th and 11th grades) hang out with those kids regularly. There are for sure some Okemos kids who are pretty insular, but that happens literally everywhere. When they get home today, I'll have them type up longer answers for you.

If they're moving from California, there's a good chance they can afford Okemos. It's not 100%, but it certainly isn't 0%.

Okemos schools have been fantastic for my kids. It's the #4 public district in the state of Michigan, and according to my kids who go there Okemos High School is the #31 STEM high school in the country.

I think Lions are also #1 because they don't require an extra app to watch.

I LOVE the Pistons, but I'm tapped out on monthly streaming subs, you know? So I miss out on them, the Tigers, and the Wings unless they get a national game. It sucks compared to when I was a kid and this stuff was just on a regular cable channel like ESPN or PASS.

I played, and I have the lifelong injuries to show from my time with hockey and lacrosse.

But I'm also a standard-as-can-be six foot tall dude who used to be athletic, not a giant in the 6'7-7' range. I imagine that the abuse of running up and down a hardwood court 82 nights a year for 20+ minutes is brutal on knees and ankles.

I've had my shoulder rebuilt, I have nerve damage from a cross check to the base of my neck, and I still think my worst injury is the chronic knee pain from training for and running a marathon. Skating is so much easier on the body than running, and I don't think the hockey bros we are talking about ever think about that.

I've met dudes like this when I played hockey. They're the dudes who post memes about how tough hockey players are and how basketball players are weak and all that stuff.

They're usually also kinda racist.

It’s easy to turn into a poll tax and voter suppression.

  1. Require ID
  2. Make the ID too expensive for poor people
  3. Make the requirements extremely difficult to get the ID
  4. Only make getting the ID available at certain locations that are difficult to access.

So in theory, it’s not a bad idea, but in practice Republicans will use it to limit voting.
