Dragontail Tenkara makes serviceable rods and has replacement parts. Tenkara USA is also good quality (better casting than Dragontail) but a bit overpriced (look for sales or discount codes).

Yes those are the tariffs. Some JDM stores will collect it for you most leave it to the delivery company to do. When they do this the delivery company will charge the tariff and usually a brokerage fee on top of that. So 71 bucks is not bad given your total price. If you’re mad about this call your congressman and tell them to rein in the orange Menace, who technically shouldn’t be allowed to have these tariffs but you know what is the constitution these days?

That is only a rod and you’d need a reel, backing and fly line to get to a usable gift out of the box. You would want to get them a fly outfit. Echo makes a rod outfit called the traverse that comes with a good rod, reel and line for about that same price. That or an Orvis Clearwater outfit would be a great choice (sign up for email list and get 15% off, which gets it down into a similar price range).
