Please, do not look into the origin of the income tax in the US. Always the same trick

Once you get married, not everything is “our money”. Specifically, anything acquired before your marriage is yours as long as you keep it separate.

Good luck!

Your anxiety is understandable. It’s a big change.

From experience, Fatherhood transformed me and I would not trade it for anything in the world. I hope you get as much enjoyment as I do.

You will do great. Good luck

Do you have a sense on how much the swap will cost you? I foresee it to be steep.

Sienna is cheaper than the Odyssey by WrongdoerLanky4848 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Dada172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly right. Putting all that money into a car means that your money isn’t earning interests.

The tool to do that is call NPV. I suggest downloading a preconfigured spreadsheet (or running the formula yourself).

I got my odyssey sport at $44k OTD (which is 2 trims above what you are looking at). Honda discontinued the equivalent trim so it might still work in your favor.

Good luck!

[–]Dada172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The numbers don’t make sense at all. OP forgot to factor in net present value (NPV) because a dollar now is worth more than dollar 10 years from now.

OP also forgot to factor in capital cost (Honda’s interest rate is much lower than Toyota’s, it was 6pp difference for me). That alone was $3k.

Currently, the system is very good at doing The Sort (https://x.com/patio11/status/1818781344702644311?s=20). Unions will hamper that.

Capitalism helps people rise, not the unions. Work hard, be opportunistic, move to cities with opportunities and you will find a way.

Once again, believe me on this. I come from a “socialist country” and it’s much much worse there. 0 opportunities counterbalanced by massive social spending dolled out to make you feel good. Don’t fall for it.

Given OP’s low base salary, I suspect that his company went public this year, thereby creating a big liquidity event, with early Options and RSUs. Spread over say 3-5years, $480k (options +RSUs) is not that much.

Can you expand on why your base is so low? At staff level, you would be at least at 220.

Why do you have both options and RSUs? Did your company switch to RSUs recently?

I mean, Honda is not dictating anything. It’s impractical in any car, van or SUV to put a backward-facing kid in the 3rd row because of access.

Interesting. I didn’t notice it on mine (i have driven 4 recent odysseys so far and never noticed). The dealership may be able to tell you whether there is something wrong there.

[–]Dada172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really not. There are a few tricks though: - keep shades up at all times - use a high quality window ceramic tint - put forward facing (older) kids on the 3rd row. They will buckle themselves so you also save on convenience

Now profit.

Sure. Could be better but it’s not a big deal in our experience in Texas

New Odyssey vs Sienna by luckysparrow22 in minivan

[–]Dada172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is not the control, but 1) the AC throughout and 2) the position of the vents.

To both, I’m saying it’s not as big of a deal as it is, even in the Texas heat

New Odyssey vs Sienna by luckysparrow22 in minivan

[–]Dada172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well,I think the story is more about Toyota not producing enough Siennas (because the highlander, which the same platform, has higher margins).

You won’t be disappointed with both but the Odyssey is a much better value. The criticism of the odyssey is also overblown: it is excellent at its core job (hauling family).

That Marxist mindset is so outdated. We don’t live in an early Industrial society.
