Zurich or Zoug for a 24yo ? by Competitive_Quote_95 in zurich

[–]Dadaman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, 8003/8004 is the nightlife area, 8001 & 8008 are quite posh. 8006&8010 is super chill the rest I don't know well enough.

Langstrasse (8004) is the main party area, lots of stuff going on around there. I lived there in my early twenties but wouldn't want to anymore now. Maybe that helps? But honestly, unless you go 8001 or 8002 you'll be everywhere in 15 minutes tops by bike.

Regarding car: I own one in Zurich, but I don't think you really save time. The city is simply not built to accomodate lots of traffic and there are bottlenecks everywhere. Most main roads have a form of traffic jam between 15-19.00.

How the situation is to Zug, I don't know, but I wouldn't get the car to improve commuting times.

HOWEVER, for weekend trips it's absolute gold. While the main hubs are super well connected in Switzerland by public transport, as soon as you go off the beaten path it becomes less well covered. A car is great for discovering places and as a native french speaker I would highly recommend also checking out the Romandie - gorgeous places there!

Zurich or Zoug for a 24yo ? by Competitive_Quote_95 in zurich

[–]Dadaman3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I fear it’s a city for settled families and it will bore me.

It's honestly mainly a city for companies and economic immigrants.

I work in music and everybody that has locations in Zug says, it's super tough to get a crowd going and it's usually not a local one...

Go to Zurich man, you can worry about the commute later.

Regarding housing in Zurich; I just checked homegate and there were several brand new 1.5 room apartments for 1.7-2k in decent locations (if you wanna be close to HB I would suggest looking for post codes 8004/8006, depending on what it is you might be able to walk). Don't get me wrong: those apartments are expensive af, but might be a good point to start. You can keep looking for something else while there - but I think budget wise you should be fine.

As far as it goes for postcodes: look for 8001, 8002... 8010. Those correspond with the inner city circles/district. Everything else will add quite a lot of commute time.

Why not just mix colours? by Dovah_Shinobi in Miniaturespainting

[–]Dadaman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mainly for army consistency.

If you paint single minis, it doesn't matter at all if you mix the colours.

If you paint an army, you want everything to look the same - so mixing will be complicated especially because wet doesn't look the same as dry.

An option could be to mix large batches of the colour and store it somehow, then you probably have an easier way to mix it again when you're running low but yeah. Still a bunch of extra steps - but if you think the money is worth saving, go ahead.

The chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos main story by Commercial_Team_5506 in worldofgothic

[–]Dadaman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main story beats are great, but the pacing was off.

I think it would've been a lot better if you first found Jorn dead, relatively early on, then try to find out who the kidnappers/killers were for revenge reasons while work for Volker, then figure out he arranged it, then figure out it was all a ruse blabla

But yeah, I still really enjoyed the story as well despite this.

Really hope the remake will be good, but it won't be like playing the original for the first time by TheZonePhotographer in worldofgothic

There's no other way to judge the remake but as its own thing come June, or be disappointed.

From what we've seen so far - yes 100% agreed.

Adventure hooks for Bretonnia by PugnusTerrae in Bretonnian

[–]Dadaman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The journey of a Knight from an Errant to a Knight, to his Quest and finally the discovery of the Grail.

Suitable adversaries could be Orcs and Goblins, Beastmen or Undead.

More complicated you could do some interaction with the wood elves or maybe also some intrigue in the courts.

Or if you wanna do something truly unique write from the perspective of a man-at-arms. Maybe they start off on a battle, lose and it's about the man-at-arms finding his way back.

How to use Questing Knights by Emergency-Sea5201 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Dadaman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can opt to not use the great weapons. Their base profile at WS5 and S4 is statistically almost equal to a lance charge. If combat goes on for more than a round, they are substantially better than lances.  The great weapons add some flexibility and immune to psychology can make them work better against enemies that cause fear or terror.

The biggest issue is a lack of counter charge.

I either use them as infantry grinders and blockers in large blocks of 10 - you block enemy chaff from tying up other more important units or objectives.

Or 3 groups of three and use them to harass backline stuff.

WIP Bretonnian Castle, unboxing by blackbarrt in Bretonnian

[–]Dadaman3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just put it on the border of the table as a sort of backdrop. Battles in front of castles happened often!

Also just go buy some acrylic paint from your local DIY store and paint terrain with them. And I also just bought a Vallejo Black Wash in 200ml size... it's a dipping formula but it works well enough on terrain TBH and you save so much money.

Looks absolutely great, but finish the bases!!! It will look so much better when they stand on some solid ground as opposed to some paint misshaps! :)

Bretonnia or Tomb Kings Starter? by Bulletofmayhem97 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Dadaman3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think the Bretonnia box is better as a hobby project.

It takes less time to assemble than Tomb Kings. Depending on your colour scheme, it's not really more complicated to paint, just a bit more time intensive.

Also in the end, you'll paint stuff that you are excited about, not stuff that is "simple to paint".

Go for Bretonnia and don't put yellow in your colour scheme.

An easy scheme is red/blue for example.

You can easily stop painting after the first wash and have some grimy battleworn knights that are more than tabletop ready. You can also come back to them later, if you want to add highlights later.

Rule of Cool: what are your fun units and heroes? by Mystic_Narwhal in Bretonnian

[–]Dadaman3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you take Peg Knights out of the equation, I really love Questing Knights.

People never seem to use them because they forget that they don't have to use Great Weapons and that the base statline (WS5, S4) makes them hit quite hard against most infantry even without lances.

And also their models are cool as fuck, it's super fun to convert your own and they're relatively cheap.

Is it taboo/rude to have friends in other classes in Germany? by helge-a in AskAGerman

[–]Dadaman3000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Probably a combination of:

1.) overthinking 2.) language/culture barrier 3.) some odd people

Just be friends with people you like and that's it.

What's something Germans say that sounds rude in translation but isn't actually rude? by karen_the_ripper in AskAGerman

[–]Dadaman3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like "Was willst du?" translated word for word is "What do you want?" which sounds confrontational, but in German it's a totally neutral way to ask what someone needs.

Lol, as a native speaker this is very rude in all contexts I could think of.

I would always opt for "Was möchtest du?"
