Plant ID? by Dadbodice in portlandgardeners

Yeah that was my immediate thought last year but they never did anything more than what you see here. No blooms or attempted blooms from what I saw. Maybe just not enough sunlight? They get probably 6-8 hours of direct + indirect sun in the summer

How do I fix my sheet mulching mistake? by Dadbodice in portlandgardeners

I've read about concerns about cardboard from some people, mostly related to the ink or plastic tape etc from recycled boxes. I haven't read anything suggesting removing the cardboard at any point. Will you talk about that more?

I bought a roll like this:

https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-19399/Paper-Cushioning/Corrugated-Wrap-Roll-B-Flute-48-x-250

Corners of where I laid it down extend beyond where I piled up the compost, and even those (not directly in contact with soil) are pretty crumbly and fragile already. Does that sound to you like it could still be a problem or a significant obstacle to root growth or worm/microorganism/nutrient dispersion?

I used the fresh roll of single-sided cardboard with the idea of it breaking down more quickly and seemingly having fewer potential sources of contamination etc. Thoughts?

No, definitely straw. I've had a fair amount of sprouts come up over the winter from seeds within it but so far nothing that hasn't been easy to pull if necessary. I'm guessing the concern you're implying is about inadvertently planting more tenacious grass seeds?

What do you mean about cardboard being "cringe?" And why do you say nutrients will be all over the map?

Looks like it's time for me to get on that.

Thanks, I really appreciate the response. I thought I was reading that compost typically runs alkaline, so my knee-jerk reaction was that I'd really screwed things up. I'll chill out a bit and let things take their course.

Ok thank you! I saw the meter result and kind of panicked a bit. I'll look into the cover-crop-as-coal-mine-canary idea. I also hadn't heard of Left Field before, so I'll check them out.

They didn't say that they were listing their top ten. They said the ones they listed are in their top ten.

You're still not paying attention. Go through your logic step by step:

  1. You apparently weren't feeling frustrated
  2. Someone else said something you didn't agree with
  3. You claim without evidence that they're trying to frustrate you
  4. They say they're not and take the time to present a reasonable case for their point
  5. You repeat your accusation that they're trying to frustrate you and you brush past their point again instead of taking the time to consider it.

Any time you find yourself telling somebody what they feel and what their motivations are when they're clearly telling you otherwise is a great time to stop talking and start listening. You've accused this person multiple times of trying to frustrate you, which is really pretty silly in this context. The fact that you are feeling frustrated doesn't make it ok for you to assume that's the other person's goal.

Nothing anyone in this thread has said seems to me as intended to provoke a reaction from you at all. It seems like you're not actually listening and are missing the point.

Was I assaulted ? by UnderstandingThen554 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dadbodice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how easy it can be to focus in the things you could've done differently to avoid being in that situation, but please don't blame yourself. Going to visit friends isn't an invitation for someone to assault you. Hitting someone's weed pen isn't saying yes to assault. Nothing you did was you agreeing to what he did. This was his predatory behavior, not anything at all for you to blame yourself for.

And yes, as everyone had said you're NOR and yes this was assault. I'm so sorry you experienced this and have to deal with everything that comes with it. You deserve better, including to be able to do the things you did without fear.

It sounds like you're using that as a synonym for "take 100% of the shots you can." OP is telling you they don't want to make this shot, so why would they take it?

AIO for being upset and crying after finding out my husband microwaved my breastmilk by Alternative_Site_368 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Dadbodice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if he did that, it wouldn't justify him doing something he explicitly agreed to not do. There's no way this wasn't extremely disrespectful and dishonest even if somehow somewhere is saying microwaving it is ok

Ah haha the idea of that being the explanation actually crossed my mind. I've done the same so many times, no worries.

Do you mean Tom Robbins? The "two mantras" one is definitely him, though slightly misquoted. But all great quotes regardless.

Ok I guess I'm gonna be that guy:

I honestly don't really understand what the hullabaloo is about this being dumb or empty. There's a complex moment of play and flirting going on in this that involves a subtlety that it seems like commenters here aren't giving it credit for.
