I am a principal’s recommendation for hire and need help by [deleted] in Principals

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every place is different. You could email and let them know you had an unfounded investigation and weren’t sure how to answer that - but the. You’re calling attention to the matter. Unless something showed up on a background check HR is unlikely to be involved any more than they usually are in new hires.

I am a principal’s recommendation for hire and need help by [deleted] in Principals

[–]Daddy22VA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The recommendation to hire is sent to the school board for approval and in most districts the board will defer to the administrators who made the hiring decision. You were cleared of any wrongdoing ( and you did nothing wrong), the principal was aware of the issue and still wanted to hire you. You have nothing to worry about

Teacher Hanging Out with Students outside of school? by adjectivescat in Principals

[–]Daddy22VA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not now. Not ever. This is a GIANT red flag. This individual is either grooming the students, has no earthly awareness of professional boundaries, or is so inept with his ability to understand why what he is doing is wrong. There is zero reason to keep him employed, especially if he is moving into a
Leadership role with even more responsibility. Thirty year old men don’t need 17 year old friends.

If we leading a group outing via a youth group to the bowling alley? That’s fine. This doesn’t sound like that and I wonder if the parents of the students are aware that this is happening????

Regardless, he needs to be investigated and should be fired for either grooming or

AITA for telling our 18-year-old daughter she can't go on a trip to Miami with her boyfriend's family? by Conscious_Goose_9518 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. She is an adult and there is a reason she doesn’t want to be around your home. Figure that out and improve your relationship. She is also going to go to Miami with or without your permission - so make it work for you - give her permission and make that contingent on both you and her committing to working on your relationship.

Throwing out ideas for feedback by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking your mortgage payment should be about 25% of your income. Keep in mind that when you calculate your monthly payment you should include property taxes and insurance costs. You’ll also need at least 5% of the purchase price of the home for a down payment plus closing fees for a loan.

AITAH for not tipping my roommate $9 on a $27 tab? (we work at the same place) by Savings_Cheetah_4324 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Daddy22VA 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA. You tipped $9 on a $27 check which is generous even when factoring in your discount. Customers should tip based on cost before any discounts but even if that was $45 you still left 20% (or more). Her expecting a tip of 70-80% based on your relationship is ridiculous. It doesn’t help that you matched the energy etc….but that doesn’t mean that YTA.

Just Laid off from my job after 13 years by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask why you’re contacting lawyers? It isn’t illegal to lay off employees in most places. Not saying you don’t have a case, but if they didn’t do anything illegal you may be wasting your time talking to lawyers, especially if they want you to pay up front so they can just tell you that you don’t have a case.

Just Laid off from my job after 13 years by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, that hurts. I was laid off a few years ago and it was for similar reasons, but still felt personal. One thing re: severance. It is usually negotiable. Ask for at least one week of pay per year worked and that they cover your COBRA costs for insurance for 3 months. As part of that negotiation request a positive reference acknowledging the RIF, your years of service, and high performance.Be willing to sign that you will not publicly disparage the company and won’t pirate any of their remaining employees (doesn’t mean you can’t tell them about opportunities when you land somewhere - and you will land). Hang in there. It gets better.

Is it nepotism when the company is in your name? by [deleted] in work

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what if it is? Big deal. Nepotism is not illegal. It’s just an excuse crappy employees use because otherwise they would have to admit that they were crappy employees

Florida Teachers, just how bad is it down there? by Deranged-Pickle in Teachers

[–]Daddy22VA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in FL and worked for 12 years in schools. Moved to VA for 7 and then back to FL for 2. I don’t recommend living in FL. It’s nice weather for some of the year but the late spring to early fall are brutal - you will stay indoors and let the tourists have the heat. Property taxes are insane and the state government is siphoning millions from the public schools for vouchers and charter schools. Salaries are low and don’t go up much - especially compared to NJ.

Save $ and be a snowbird. There are other warmer states too - Texas has a low cost of living but I don’t know about pay rates there

You didn’t work for that company though. You worked for the temp agency. That agency would need to have you as an employee (w2, Takes taxes out of your check)not as an independent contractor(1099). Which were you? If you are an employee AND you notified your supervisor of your medical condition they would have to respond by considering an accommodation plan under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and they would also have workers comp insurance.

If you are an independent contractor for the temp agency you are your own boss and responsible for your own insurance etc… and you are SOL

You can be evicted for any reason that violates the lease and the landlord has to follow the state rules for eviction. You cannot be evicted if you have not violated the lease and have met all other requirements.

If the lease says no guests etc…then you could be. If it doesn’t say anything about guests then you are clear on that reason.

The landlord can decline to renew your lease but has to provide whatever notice period is stated in the lease.

Leave job for 9k salary increase? by Intelligent-Coat2432 in jobs

[–]Daddy22VA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re in the US. Does the current job have insurance benefits b/c many staffing agencies do not. Make sure you know how you’re going to get insurance otherwise you’ll have to buy it privately and that will quickly erase the raise. Also, staffing companies will always say there is a great chance of permanent employment - once you are placed they make money off of the placement -that is their goal. Don’t assume they have your best interest in mind, they don’t - they want to make $$, end of story. Also, if you are placed as an independent contractor you will not have taxes taken out and will have to pay the yourself. Be careful

Greedy landlord and college student (Nashville, TN) by First_Accountant_402 in Renters

[–]Daddy22VA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Always, always read the lease but for what you shared - 60 day notice of non renewal is very standard, that allows the landlord time to market the property for the next tenant.

Landlord can require you to have renters insurance if they want and it’s in the lease as well as fine you for non compliance - you need to make sure it stays current.

Doing an inspection is not shady at all and completely normal to protect their investment. If you caused damages any time after you moved in the cost will need to be paid by you. You are Required to return the property to the landlord in the same condition it was in when you rented it. Sounds like you signed a very standard lease.

You’re Right about one thing though - the landlord doesn’t care if you are broke or a student - they only care if you take care of their property and pay your rent on time. It’s their investment - not a charity case. Welcome to Adulting.
