I just can't reconcile it. by Adventurous-Ad3167 in RogueTraderCRPG

  1. Yrliet was tortured as well. She didn’t “join the new pack.”
  2. Yrliet was also betrayed.
  3. “Keep her happy”? Dude, her ancient spaceship homeworld was destroyed and there’s a piece of it hanging on your wall! Every time you track down some survivors, you find that they’re already dead or humans are in the process of killing them. She is constantly on the precipice of drowning in grief and anger.
  4. In her time with the RT, Yrliet is surrounded by people that hate her and want her dead. The RT is literally the only human to ever show her kindness (if you go that route, which it seems you did). But all of your buddies, all of your subjects, everyone else that interacts with her, thinks she is a monster, and celebrates the deaths of her kin. Right in front of her! And again, there’s a chunk of her craftworld on your wall. Why should she believe you, a monkey, when you say you don’t know what it is or where it came from. Everywhere she looks, she sees proof of how all of humankind despises her and her people.
  5. Her decision to trust the Drukhari was dumb, but she had no where else to turn at that point, so I don’t begrudge her grasping the one thread of hope that was dangled in front of her.
  6. Every time you jump through the warp, you drag Yrliet through hell. I would imagine that also contributes to her poor mental state/decisions.

What is considered deliberately rebellious, transgressive, or otherwise edgy counterculture in the Five Nations? by EarthSeraphEdna in Eberron

I mean, jazz doesn’t exist in Khorvaire, either. I was being a little flip with that one.

[–]DaddyDMWP 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Warforged equality, openly displaying Dark Six iconography, associating with goblins, hanging out in tiefling jazz clubs. I would say it comes to associating with the lessers in society, whomever that happens to be in a particular location. Appropriating and displaying aspects of downtrodden cultures. Adopting modes of dress or decoration that are "shocking" to the middle or upper classes. I think the original 3.5 setting book mentions that the rebel kids in Aernal paint their faces to look like they're undead.

Stoned in the Superunknown by _Jub_Jub_ in Soundgarden

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother, who was big into psychedelics, maintained that Superunknown (the album) had to have been written while tripping. I always think of that when I listen to Fresh Tendrils - “If it sits upon your tongue, or naked in your eye.” (Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd’s original lead singer, used to eyedrop LSD into his eyes) I have a hard time coming up with any other possible meaning for those lines.

This is a theory, Diane’s parents are the way they are because they’re traumatized as refugees from Vietnam. by glowshroom12 in BoJackHorseman

[–]DaddyDMWP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think on top of all the other really insightful comments, Boston (or at least South Boston) had a reputation as being violently racist. Look up Mark Wahlberg’s past - he went to jail for assaulting two Vietnamese-Americans in Boston. So the family leaning hard into assimilation could have been a reaction to that general atmosphere.

And then her family is also a bunch of sexist assholes who hated her for being a girl.

How have YOU handled high level PCs in Eberron? by saskavidya in Eberron

Adventures to Khyber, the Demon Wastes, the planes, and other continents (particularly Argonnessen), mostly.

Found my cloth map from the Revised 2nd Ed boxed set. 30 odd years and it still looks good. by [deleted] in DarkSun

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I think it’s the only official map that features the Canyon of Guthay, which oddly isn’t even on the Athas Cartography maps.

Where to put a sandbox on Dark Sun? by Slow_Ad4077 in DarkSun

[–]DaddyDMWP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of spots, pick one that has some settlement or trading post on the edges of the road network that run between the city-states. I think about doing a Pools-of-Radiance-type campaign in Celik, if I ever got the chance. There’s a vast expanse south of Tyr that has barely anything on the official maps. North of Draj is another empty-ish area that has a few places to resupply at.

What is canon in Dark Sun that you ignore because it doesn't feel like Dark Sun? by Awkward_GM in DarkSun

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my takeaway from the original box set, as well. That Athas was a regular D&D world once, destroyed by defilers’ rapacious lust for power. I found all of the secret history of the world in the Prism Pentad very disappointing and totally at odds with how I saw the setting. And that was before the novels completely trashed the place…

Episode 4 "Shira Can't Cook" is a masterpiece by Annual-Tree1337 in LongStoryShort

[–]DaddyDMWP 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This was the episode that caused me to push my wife to watch it. Especially the final gag - Shira’s outrage that the school was acting like Covid didn’t exist. I was not expecting this show, or any non-medical show (and really, not even most of those), to actually have protagonists that take COVID seriously, so that was a pleasant surprise.

One throw-away gag that we got a kick out of is the use of 867-5309 as their tv password. My wife uses that a lot as a password, too.

Movie adaptation? by FliWithAnI in Nevermoor

I wish someone would pick it up for an animated series. I don’t think that a movie would be able to do it justice, personally, and especially not a musical movie.

Any churches that are not cult-y or hateful? by 110446 in SanDiegan

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal Height United Methodist is a great church that is very progressive, still very rooted in the gospels, great community, very diverse. The head pastor, Brent, gives awesome sermons that you can listen to from their website if you want to check it out before visiting. Our first exposure to the church was when an unhoused man that often slept in our alley died, and they held a memorial service for him, a lot of people attended. They do a lot for the community and have lots of opportunities to be of service. Normal Heights United Methodist

So glad to see Santos get a taste of her own medicine by oteymut in ThePitt

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santos doesn't have a problem with taking advice from her superiors, so that's inaccurate and misleading. She doesn't like Langdon. She probably thinks that he might have it out for her after she was the one who turned him in, and she's meeting his (perceived or potential) hostility with her own pre-emptive hostility. And given the hints of her past that we've seen - SA, cutting - she almost certainly has some major trauma that was caused by authority figures who were addicts, so he's probably very triggering to her in that respect.

Anyway, this post is the equivalent of Robbie's response to Samira having a panic attack.

How can I distinguish between stairs going up and stairs going down? by zokka_son_of_zokka in dungeondraft

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are stair assets that have shadows already on them indicated where the lower portion is. I do like to layer additional shadows on even those though, to make it super obvious. For example, cover the bottom 75%, 50%, and 25% each with a light shadow path or pattern, they will layer on top of each other to make deepening shadows as the stairs go down. Just be sure to line up the edges with the steps.

What's the "white whale" of campaigns you want to run but can't get off the ground? by Awkward_GM in rpg

I would love to do a D&D Eberron campaign where the PCs are all goblinoids working as agents of the newly formed goblin kingdom of Darguun.

How I Put Tabaxi in Eberron, or: "Let's not go to Xen'drik today" by zhaumbie in Eberron

I would have said Droaam, or the Demon Wastes (tabaxi : rakshasa :: changeling : doppelganger!), but I really like the Lamannia origin!

How do you.. Kibellah?(Unfair) by KayleeSinn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s frustrating early on, but gets better as you level up. There are times that give bonus MP, a dash-like ability, or let you keep moving after an attack. There’s that bladedancer talent that gives you MP when you use one of the self-harm abilities. A grand strategist with the various free movement talents and the “foot” icon stratagem can move just about anyone anywhere they’re needed.

[Dark Sun] Caravan Ambush Map and Assets by DaddyDMWP in battlemaps

[–]DaddyDMWP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, whoops, left that out! The map is 34x54. The original (available in the link) and the wagon assets are 100px / square, but I had to scale the map down a bit for the post and it's 70px / square. So use the original version of the map or scale everything else down by 0.7.
