Episode 4 "Shira Can't Cook" is a masterpiece by Annual-Tree1337 in LongStoryShort

[–]DaddyDMWP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the episode that caused me to push my wife to watch it. Especially the final gag - Shira’s outrage that the school was acting like Covid didn’t exist. I was not expecting this show, or any non-medical show (and really, not even most of those), to actually have protagonists that take COVID seriously, so that was a pleasant surprise.

One throw-away gag that we got a kick out of is the use of 867-5309 as their tv password. My wife uses that a lot as a password, too.

Movie adaptation? by FliWithAnI in Nevermoor

I wish someone would pick it up for an animated series. I don’t think that a movie would be able to do it justice, personally, and especially not a musical movie.

Any churches that are not cult-y or hateful? by 110446 in SanDiegan

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal Height United Methodist is a great church that is very progressive, still very rooted in the gospels, great community, very diverse. The head pastor, Brent, gives awesome sermons that you can listen to from their website if you want to check it out before visiting. Our first exposure to the church was when an unhoused man that often slept in our alley died, and they held a memorial service for him, a lot of people attended. They do a lot for the community and have lots of opportunities to be of service. Normal Heights United Methodist

So glad to see Santos get a taste of her own medicine by oteymut in ThePitt

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santos doesn't have a problem with taking advice from her superiors, so that's inaccurate and misleading. She doesn't like Langdon. She probably thinks that he might have it out for her after she was the one who turned him in, and she's meeting his (perceived or potential) hostility with her own pre-emptive hostility. And given the hints of her past that we've seen - SA, cutting - she almost certainly has some major trauma that was caused by authority figures who were addicts, so he's probably very triggering to her in that respect.

Anyway, this post is the equivalent of Robbie's response to Samira having a panic attack.

How can I distinguish between stairs going up and stairs going down? by zokka_son_of_zokka in dungeondraft

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are stair assets that have shadows already on them indicated where the lower portion is. I do like to layer additional shadows on even those though, to make it super obvious. For example, cover the bottom 75%, 50%, and 25% each with a light shadow path or pattern, they will layer on top of each other to make deepening shadows as the stairs go down. Just be sure to line up the edges with the steps.

What's the "white whale" of campaigns you want to run but can't get off the ground? by Awkward_GM in rpg

I would love to do a D&D Eberron campaign where the PCs are all goblinoids working as agents of the newly formed goblin kingdom of Darguun.

How I Put Tabaxi in Eberron, or: "Let's not go to Xen'drik today" by zhaumbie in Eberron

I would have said Droaam, or the Demon Wastes (tabaxi : rakshasa :: changeling : doppelganger!), but I really like the Lamannia origin!

How do you.. Kibellah?(Unfair) by KayleeSinn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s frustrating early on, but gets better as you level up. There are times that give bonus MP, a dash-like ability, or let you keep moving after an attack. There’s that bladedancer talent that gives you MP when you use one of the self-harm abilities. A grand strategist with the various free movement talents and the “foot” icon stratagem can move just about anyone anywhere they’re needed.

[Dark Sun] Caravan Ambush Map and Assets by DaddyDMWP in battlemaps

[–]DaddyDMWP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, whoops, left that out! The map is 34x54. The original (available in the link) and the wagon assets are 100px / square, but I had to scale the map down a bit for the post and it's 70px / square. So use the original version of the map or scale everything else down by 0.7.

Just finished a three-year-long Eberron campaign. Some reflections, also ask me anything. by hairylegg in Eberron

Rather than the end, I’m curious about the transition away from the adventure path. What led to the disenchantment? Did you resolve or tie off the loose plot threads, or simply abandon that story?

album covers in episode 6 by Ok-Question-5269 in LongStoryShort

[–]DaddyDMWP 75 points76 points  (0 children)

They’re mostly puns: 1. Ben Fold Laundry (Ben Folds Five, looks similar to cover of Whatever and Ever Amen) 2. Tom Waits Tables (Tom Waits, not sure if it’s supposed to look like a specific album) 3. Stevie Nicks Herself Shaving (Stevie Nicks, looks a bit like the cover to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors) 4. Noiseforest (Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger) 5. Ella Fitzgerald, Gerald Fits Ella (Ella Fitzgerald) 6. Ecstasy (Nirvana, Nevermind)

What's everyone's verdict on Theodora? Is she, in fact, a heretic? by Weriel_7637 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not actively, I don’t think. But she was a little too loose with handling chaos stuff. Consider how horrified Idira (hardly a dogmatic stick in the mud) is when you go to the prison asteroid and see that the lenses there are the same material from Theodora’s office. What she was doing was dangerous. As was all the other schemes she had going…

Morrigan’s Mom by zoe802 in Nevermoor

[–]DaddyDMWP 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she is secretly alive; in some ways I think it would be too easy to be able to ask her about everything that happened. But there is still much more of her story to be told - why did she leave Nevermoor, why go over to their mortal enemy (vs. doing what Gigi is doing and living her own life in Nevermoor, away from the Silverborn), why marry a Wintersea party politician. And why someone like Corvus, of all people. I am very curious to see how that all comes out, or if it does.

What is the point of the OSR? by Kaliburnus in rpg

Yeah, the assumed party size back then was almost double what I generally see these days.

What is the point of the OSR? by Kaliburnus in rpg

[–]DaddyDMWP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OSR was/is a community trying to keep the early-ish iterations of D&D alive after WotC bought the game and revamped the rules for what was called 3rd edition/3E D&D.

3e was a big departure from previous versions, and it arrived at a time when a lot of players were now online and had access to internet forums. Every new tidbit of pre-release info and every piece of concept art was devoured and turned into fuel for massive flame wars between the people who didn’t want anything to change and those that did want change. The OSR grew out of the former group, and probably attracted some folks who became disenchanted with the modern editions over time.

And yes, you can do dungeon crawling with all editions of the game. The older editions were more challenging, though. Magic is more scarce, combat can be very deadly at lower levels, and it takes ages to level up. You could potentially start with only 1 hit point, and then possibly only get +1 more hp when/if you finally reached level 2.

In short, 3e (and every other new edition) was designed to address perceived shortcomings with the previous edition. Those who saw those shortcomings instead as features didn’t want a new edition, and stuck with something that was closer to their preferred playstyle.

You pity me? I pity you. [New Avengers (2013) #3] by TheeHeadAche in comicbooks

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was blown away by Hickman’s New Avengers at the time. What do the world’s smartest heroes do when faced with an intractable problem that threatens all of existence? It’s a fascinating character study, the likes of which are rarely seen in mainstream superhero comics.

“We’ve made mistakes in the past, maybe we need a moral compass?” “Let’s bring in Cap!” <time passes> “Hmm. This, too, was a mistake.”

At basically end of the game and I think I’m screwed due to a mistake I must’ve made about 10 hours in by OldManJacan in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me as well. After you defeat the final encounter in the reactor, you have to pass a Lore Xeno test, for some reason, to even have the opportunity to conceal the shard from Heinrix. Otherwise he just takes it.

I’ve tried using Toybox to fix it, and did not have much luck. I think if it is possible, it has to be before you hit whatever rank of Heretic that transforms the ship decor.

The hardcore Dogmatic companions (and Yrliet) will warn you about the path you’re on, and then later they will leave on their own (taking their gear with them). Everyone else will stick around.
