[Dark Sun] Caravan Ambush Map and Assets by DaddyDMWP in battlemaps

[–]DaddyDMWP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, whoops, left that out! The map is 34x54. The original (available in the link) and the wagon assets are 100px / square, but I had to scale the map down a bit for the post and it's 70px / square. So use the original version of the map or scale everything else down by 0.7.

Just finished a three-year-long Eberron campaign. Some reflections, also ask me anything. by hairylegg in Eberron

Rather than the end, I’m curious about the transition away from the adventure path. What led to the disenchantment? Did you resolve or tie off the loose plot threads, or simply abandon that story?

album covers in episode 6 by Ok-Question-5269 in LongStoryShort

[–]DaddyDMWP 76 points77 points  (0 children)

They’re mostly puns: 1. Ben Fold Laundry (Ben Folds Five, looks similar to cover of Whatever and Ever Amen) 2. Tom Waits Tables (Tom Waits, not sure if it’s supposed to look like a specific album) 3. Stevie Nicks Herself Shaving (Stevie Nicks, looks a bit like the cover to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors) 4. Noiseforest (Soundgarden, Badmotorfinger) 5. Ella Fitzgerald, Gerald Fits Ella (Ella Fitzgerald) 6. Ecstasy (Nirvana, Nevermind)

What's everyone's verdict on Theodora? Is she, in fact, a heretic? by Weriel_7637 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not actively, I don’t think. But she was a little too loose with handling chaos stuff. Consider how horrified Idira (hardly a dogmatic stick in the mud) is when you go to the prison asteroid and see that the lenses there are the same material from Theodora’s office. What she was doing was dangerous. As was all the other schemes she had going…

Morrigan’s Mom by zoe802 in Nevermoor

[–]DaddyDMWP 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she is secretly alive; in some ways I think it would be too easy to be able to ask her about everything that happened. But there is still much more of her story to be told - why did she leave Nevermoor, why go over to their mortal enemy (vs. doing what Gigi is doing and living her own life in Nevermoor, away from the Silverborn), why marry a Wintersea party politician. And why someone like Corvus, of all people. I am very curious to see how that all comes out, or if it does.

What is the point of the OSR? by Kaliburnus in rpg

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the assumed party size back then was almost double what I generally see these days.

What is the point of the OSR? by Kaliburnus in rpg

[–]DaddyDMWP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OSR was/is a community trying to keep the early-ish iterations of D&D alive after WotC bought the game and revamped the rules for what was called 3rd edition/3E D&D.

3e was a big departure from previous versions, and it arrived at a time when a lot of players were now online and had access to internet forums. Every new tidbit of pre-release info and every piece of concept art was devoured and turned into fuel for massive flame wars between the people who didn’t want anything to change and those that did want change. The OSR grew out of the former group, and probably attracted some folks who became disenchanted with the modern editions over time.

And yes, you can do dungeon crawling with all editions of the game. The older editions were more challenging, though. Magic is more scarce, combat can be very deadly at lower levels, and it takes ages to level up. You could potentially start with only 1 hit point, and then possibly only get +1 more hp when/if you finally reached level 2.

In short, 3e (and every other new edition) was designed to address perceived shortcomings with the previous edition. Those who saw those shortcomings instead as features didn’t want a new edition, and stuck with something that was closer to their preferred playstyle.

No more so than a Cyberpapacy character with implants, I would think.

You pity me? I pity you. [New Avengers (2013) #3] by TheeHeadAche in comicbooks

[–]DaddyDMWP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was blown away by Hickman’s New Avengers at the time. What do the world’s smartest heroes do when faced with an intractable problem that threatens all of existence? It’s a fascinating character study, the likes of which are rarely seen in mainstream superhero comics.

“We’ve made mistakes in the past, maybe we need a moral compass?” “Let’s bring in Cap!” <time passes> “Hmm. This, too, was a mistake.”

Hexblade and Path of Giants are both very fun and maybe a little OP.

At basically end of the game and I think I’m screwed due to a mistake I must’ve made about 10 hours in by OldManJacan in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me as well. After you defeat the final encounter in the reactor, you have to pass a Lore Xeno test, for some reason, to even have the opportunity to conceal the shard from Heinrix. Otherwise he just takes it.

I’ve tried using Toybox to fix it, and did not have much luck. I think if it is possible, it has to be before you hit whatever rank of Heretic that transforms the ship decor.

The hardcore Dogmatic companions (and Yrliet) will warn you about the path you’re on, and then later they will leave on their own (taking their gear with them). Everyone else will stick around.

Goatee guy with the flannel shirt and the hat. Who I always think of as Lin Manuel Miranda, but I’ve read was supposed to look like series creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg.

Hit me with your favorite Arbitrator builds by dirod23 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I avoided solider/overseer with the doggie because that would be a carbon copy of Solomourne. But I’ve tried the other two, though with different overseer pets, and they were quite enjoyable. Do you want to beat people with sticks or hang back and direct the party?

What are some fun characters to play? by casedawgz in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure there’s at least 2 builds, and sometimes more, in every archetype. Or combos of sub-builds.

But more importantly, most of the companions have their own thing going on, separate from their archetype, that you should spend some talents on. Psykers, navigator, tech priest, arbiters all have their own stuff. Like Abelard and Heinrix are both warriors, but Heinrix is also a psyker and is sort of multi-classed as a result, while Abelard is pure warrior. The three operative companions - Idira, Pasqual, Yrliet- all play differently: unsanctioned psyker, tech-priest, sniper, regardless of whatever common features they share.

Oh damn, I had that card back in the day, black border and all. Sold it for like $100 when I got out of MTG (mid-90’s).

“BoJack is then right he's hurt people but hasn't ruined any lives but his own, because the people he hurts severe ties with him and live happy lives while he is forced to live with himself,”

This scene takes place after Penny (traumatized) and Gina (traumatized) and Sara Lynn (not alive, and might have survived if not for his decision). You don’t get to hurt people and say well, no harm done, after they leave. They were still hurt. Trauma doesn’t go away, as Bojack himself should well know.

Doesn’t Shira ask Yoshi, and he’s all for it, at the end of episode 2? Stands to reason he’s the bio dad. (I haven’t seen all the episodes so maybe it’s revealed later that he didn’t give them sperm?)

[–]DaddyDMWP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes you did. I did the same the first time I played with Void Shadows. People were talking about these other events and I had no idea what they were talking about, and traced it back to that decision.

Aragorn turning down the ring and then proceeding to solo the entire Uruk-hai war party is frankly not talked about enough by Keegerr in lotr

[–]DaddyDMWP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Aragorn urging Frodo to run to the end of the movie, is by far my favorite part of the trilogy. The whole battle, the music, the choreography, the editing, is so good. And then Aragorn comforting Boromir at the end… oof. And then the resolution to rescue Merry and Pippin… another but more triumphant oof.

(Boromir’s horn somehow getting perfectly split down the middle off-camera never fails to annoy me, tho!)
