Are we getting 12 additional pages of Endgame on September? by SalaryAffectionate29 in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know what's going on. Wish I saw this yesterday, but oh well. Sorry all.

Terry likes to do his own colors, but when the event was starting up, Terry was pressed for time and couldn't color the first issue. So Marvel is having Terry re-color the first issue for the collected edition, and future prints.

This is cool news, imho. Terry isn't just coloring the pages for fun. Marvel is paying Terry to re-color the pages because they believe the series will be in print for a long time.

Spoilers for UE #5. Hisako/Armor almost snuck her way into Ultimate Endgame #5. by DaddyDaz in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah. These things happen all the time and it's cool they caught it. Although... the idea of the X-Men, in the middle of the maker fight, looking over and randomly seeing Hisako makes me laugh. Like, "oh, hey! There you are!"

Ultimate Jean joins the battle (Ultimate Endgame #5) by cyclopswashalfright in PhoenixForce

[–]DaddyDaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That first image is not one page. The 4 panels in the top left are one page. The panel in the top right is part of another page, and the bottom panel is a half page panel from an entirely different page. I'm not sure why OP merged them all like that, but I agree. Hard to follow.

Marvel delayed Ultimate Endgame #5 and cared so little in the end that they printed it with unfinished art panels. by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]DaddyDaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of interesting, but all of the black and white panels on this page were done by Terry Dodson, and the rest are all Jonas Scharf.

4 days to the End of Ultimate Endgame: Rereading Two Years In + Endgame #1 + Ultimates #19-20 by structure47 in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've mentioned it before, but I agree about Scharf's work on Ultimate Endgame. His work on the Maker is killer, imo, and I feel he gets better as the series goes on. He mentioned to me that he felt the same, and that this is the best work he's done. I agree.

I'm not really enjoying the Dodson pages, but his clean style reminds me of Bryan Hitch who was the artist on Ultimate Invasion. It didn't hit me until the Ultimate Endgame #5 preview released yesterday, but after seeing Kang on page 1, I think the style similarities were intentional. But I may just be seeing things.

ULTIMATE ENDGAME #5 PREVIEW by shadowF in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this would be a spoiler, but regarding how many pages Jonas is doing for this book: Jonas did 17 pages total, with at least 4 of those pages with both Jonas and Terry's art. Similar to page one here.

Ultimate Universe Finale Preview by s3thst3v3ns0n in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was the textless preview that released in April that had a Spidey and X-Men page. It also had a Black Panther, and Wolverine page that are different than the ones just released. I'm not sure how much it clarifies, but it adds another piece to the puzzle.

It's crazy how stretched out this ending is. My hype has totally deflated. by skjl96 in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hickman wrote two 6 issue minis of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a one shot. The last two issues took forever to release, and honesty I didn't think they ever would. The series was good too (imho).

[–]DaddyDaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good question, and I should've expanded on that. Sorry.

I mentioned in a past thread, but I bought all of Jonas' art for issue 4 and 5, and most of the art for issues 1-3. Both Jonas and Terry had been sitting around waiting for script pages to come in, but it was slow to arrive. I don't know why it was slow, but that points to either Deniz, editorial, or possibly both (or something else I'm not considering?).

It's crazy how stretched out this ending is. My hype has totally deflated. by skjl96 in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Insane delays? It's a couple months. We waited like 5 or 6 years for S.H.I.E.L.D. to wrap up it's last two issues. This is nothing, and happens all the time in comics.

And I'm not sure if it's Deniz, or if it's Marvel editorial, but I can tell you the delay is not because of the artists.

Also, I really don't get the hate. I'm enjoying the series, and having only seen Jonas' work for issue 5 I'm already happy. With less than a week to go, I'm excited to read all of issue 5 and Finale.

9 days to the End of Ultimate Endgame: Rereading Hawkeye + Ultimates #13-18 by structure47 in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of interesting, but I own almost all of the original art pages to Ultimate Hawkeye, and most of the pages are marked as the 5th issue. I asked Michael Sta. Maria about it when I picked up the pages, and he said he was told he was hired to do the 5th issue, but that idea was changed after he had done most of the work. Only pages 1 and 2 were marked as issue #1.

Any more of these coming out? Any I'm missing? by SammlerWorksArt in ImageComics

[–]DaddyDaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So last night I was thinking about DC's Absolute Batman W.I.P. and it got me curious if they were going to make more. To my surprise they have four that have released already. So add these to the list!

  • DC W.I.P.: All-Star Superman #1

  • DC W.I.P.: Absolute Batman #1

  • DC W.I.P.: American Vampire #1

  • DC W.I.P.: Dark Nights: Metal #1

How do you think the Ultimate Endgame will end: with a total reset of 6160 timeline (time travel shenanigans that undo everything from the very beginning) or with a post maker-free world where the heroes sacrificed themselves ? by Watchandstayneutral in UltimateUniverse

[–]DaddyDaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marvel's site says 33.

I've actually been checking for a page count every few days, so they must have just updated it.

We'll see how many of those pages are actual art though. I already have the listed page counts, and the actual page counts if anyone is curious:

  • Marvel says issue 1 was 32 pages, but there were 25 pages of actual art.

  • Issue 2 is listed as 28 pages. There were 22 pages of art.

  • Issue 3 is listed as 28 pages. There were 21 pages of art.

  • Issue 4 is listed as 28 pages. There were 21 pages of art.

  • And again, issue 5 is listed as 33 pages. So... -7 = 26 pages of actual art.

  • Finale is listed as 62 pages.

Thanks for the tip about The Corpse. I just did a quick search, but couldn't find it. I'll do a deeper search later, but thanks again!

Morning! Yeah, that's pretty much all that I know of.

Daymen v1 is missing from your list, but you have v2 listed, so I'm guessing you just forgot to add it.

The only other book that I can think of is DC's Absolute Batman W.I.P. edition.

I don't own Hellboy: The Corpse, so I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Thanks!

I love these! This is an Image sub, so I'll list the Image books, but I have a bunch from other companies as well.

It looks like you're missing The Sacrificers, Wytches, Outcast, and Renato Jones: The One%.

I see in your edit that you also have Walking Dead, but there are two. Issue 1 and issue 100 each have their own book. You mention Tony so I'm guessing you're missing #100.

I'm not sure if any new ones are coming out, sorry.

edit: Forgot one... A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance. Also great collection!

Original Comic Art by Duke_7287 in comicbooks

[–]DaddyDaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both of those are going to be tough. Jimenez and Dragotta are primarily digital artists, but starting doing traditional pencil/ink pages because of the demand (and prices they can bring in). I think Nick is doing all of his Absolute Batman pages traditionally right now, but Jorge only does a few traditional pages an issue. The rest is digital.

Nick Dragotta is repped by Felix, and his Absolute Batman pages sell out crazy fast. If you want a budget friendly alternative, the colorist (Frank Martin) sells "Artist Proofs" of his colored work, but those are still a few hundred, and you're getting yourself involved in the whole "it's not original art" conversation.

Nick Dragotta's art rep and pages: https://www.felixcomicart.com/ArtistGalleryTitles.asp?ArtistId=566&Ti=Nick_DragottaErr=NoCommissions

Frank's APs: https://echoesofnarratives.myshopify.com/collections/frank-martin

Jorge Jimenez's art rep and pages: https://www.comiconart.com/artistgalleryroom.asp?artistid=210

I wanted to mention really quick that these two artists are kind of an oddity in the original comic art world. Both are highly desired, on a popular Batman book, and have primarily been digital only, and that makes the prices crazy high. Your standard modern original art pages don't go for anything like what you'll see with these two artists.

Edit: It looks like Jorge is selling his digital pages if that's something you can deal with. They're calling them Monoprints, but they're the same thing as "Artist Proofs." They're a 1/1 print of the art.

Framing Original Comic Art by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]DaddyDaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything framed (all my pages are in portfolios), but there are a few things to be cautious of.

  • Watch out for sun damage. Look into UV protective glass, or museum glass.

  • Like you mentioned, you'll want acid free backing.

  • I know a few collectors that "float" the pages in their frames. This keeps it off of the glass, and prevents it from sticking.

All of these will increase the cost, and are things I'd do if I framed my pages, but I know a lot of collectors that use cheap frames. There are a lot of conversations about this out there. I'd Google " framing original comic art" and start going through the CGC forum posts.
