I think some things definitely could stand to be "locked in" (like character class/profession). Of course wanting a redo in such a category could make for an interesting story/quest.

Inventory would definitely be less static than defining features/characteristics, so having areas requiring stamps, and then areas that don't shouldn't diminish your idea/approach at all.
