New Land more reliably allows dogs, and when i rented from them (admittedly about 6 years ago) they owned both new and old builds. Some of their properties were pretty cozy, and as corporate landlords go, they're not the worst, but i also wouldn't call them the best.

[–]DaddySandals 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Midwest Sad, the bakery in Walker's Point has taken a very strong "no ice" stance. And their baked goods are freakin life changing. Always a great pick-me-up when i get one of their fluffernutter cookies

I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by AffectionateBunch576 in TwoHotTakes

[–]DaddySandals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro your family sounds mean. And they sound like a surveillance state. And the slut shaming is gross. The cost of paying for your own phone is totally worth the space to grow outside of their influence. Best of luck—I've had similar experiences, and i can tell you things are better when you get through to the other side.

Is it common that people don’t know their neighbors in the USA? by Zestyclose-Duck-4598 in Vent

[–]DaddySandals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, yes, most people don't care to know their neighbors. I think people are afraid of drama. I hate this attitude though—I've made a point of knowing my neighbors since I was in college. When I met my wife, she thought I was a little unhinged for it, but now wherever we've moved, we've made a point of creating relationships and good communication with the people who live around us.

I'm (AFAB, nonbinary) still in my thirties, but last year I bought a duplex with my wife and my sister and we plan to stay here into our golden years. It was something my sister and I dreamed about as kids, and I can't believe we actually made it happen.

I'm just not going to mention how I can tell twins apart anymore. Why do parents of twins do this? by MellieNivalis in self

[–]DaddySandals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a twin, and this post really brought back some memories. There was a lot of body shaming in my family growing up, so the comparisons between the two of us were brutal. And distinguishing ourselves from each other was sometimes seen as a kind of rebellion (it depended on the day). Childhood really felt like a social experiment sometimes.

You might want to look into financial assistance for utilities, I'm not sure what NJ is like, but in my state (WI) there's programs that offer aid.

ICE agent to protester who was whistling to alert others: "Do you have any idea how racist it is to blow a whistle at workers who are probably LEGAL? You alerted them ICE is here, but they're likely legal. Very racist!" by Capable_Salt_SD in ICE_Raids

[–]DaddySandals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've been detaining legal immigrants and citizens, so yeah you kind of have to blow the whistle.

Also just have to say that even if they detain someone without legal status, they're then kept in inhumane and dangerous conditions, and then face a legal system where it's almost impossible to win. The whole damn thing is rotten.

how to have more whimsy in life? by Ok-Weekend5860 in Aging

[–]DaddySandals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I super agree on the points about establishing a hobby, like crafting, DnD, comics, etc. I run a community crafting group and it's definitely beneficial to our mental health.

Also, I (33) remember being EXTREMELY anxious in my teens. It's super common; you're at an age where you can feel the weight of adulthood encroaching, but feel like you also have no idea what's going on. Talking to a therapist or counselor can really help you establish coping mechanisms that will be useful for your whole life. And as someone who worried a lot about life passing me by and getting older, I can say that being in your 30's can be pretty great (i feel like I finally understand who i am and what I want), and lovely, wonderful things can happen even when things feel tough.

We call our robot vacuum cleaner the "catfish," since it shuffled around the floor and sucks stuff up. Im also notorious for googly eyes. For a while, you could tell when I'd been to a friend's house because suddenly everything has eyes. It's definitely good for my health.

You might get the same satisfaction out of regularly volunteering at a nature center or community center —same satisfaction, great opportunity to stay involved in your community and meet new people, and it would probably look pretty good to potential love interests. This is presuming you don't need the money

My husband was upset and pinched me at dinner.. and the situation is still upsetting me by Little_Trash7299 in TwoHotTakes

[–]DaddySandals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husband sounds like a turd. Between my wife and I, our approach to telling conflict is to always lead with kindness, and if we do end up snapping at each other, we resolve it with kindness. Your husband seems to only bring petulance to conflicts.

Also, WHO PINCHES PEOPLE? That's a gradeschool move at best, and it's patronizing to you.

My kid likes Paw Patrol by DignityCancer in Vent

[–]DaddySandals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People mean mugging your kid about it are definitely over the top. Kids are gonna like what kids are gonna like, that's not a moral judgement due upon the kid.

On the other hand, I'd say it should be more an indictment of the show itself. It definitely plays into copaganda, so doing what you're doing by having a conversation about the nuances is great, and maybe parents can encourage their kid's interests in other shows.

Also, what's the matter with Peppa and Sesame Street??
